Letting the bridge burn

_Amelie’s POV_

The room remained still after Luca made his way out.

It was too still, too quiet, and too heavy with the kind of silence that let my thoughts run circles until they made me dizzy. The brothers had gone their separate ways hours ago, each nursing their anger like an open wound. The walls here didn’t just keep secrets—they soaked them in, and I could feel them pressing on my chest.

I hated what this felt like. It was completely different from this past few days and I couldn’t blame anyone for it.

I sat on the edge of the bed, the blanket rumpled beneath me, my hands resting in my lap like they didn’t belong to me.

For days, I’d avoided looking at them—kept them wrapped, hidden under gauze and the excuse of healing. It was easier that way. Easier not to remember.

But the bandages had to come off sometime.

My fingertips brushed the edge of the tape, and a strange chill went through me. My stomach clenched.

I should wait until morning. I should do this with someone else h

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Get it out

_Matteo’s POV_The bag kept swinging back at me.Not hard. Not enough to knock me off balance.Just enough to remind me I wasn’t hitting it nearly as hard as I wanted to.I didn’t want to think about what had just happened in that room. I drove my fist into it again, the leather groaning under the impact. Sweat was already sliding down my spine, soaking into my shirt, but I didn’t stop. The gloves bit into my skin. My breathing came in sharp bursts. And still—still—it wasn’t enough to burn the anger out.Because no matter how many times I hit the bag, I couldn’t get Luca’s voice out of my head.I was trying to protect all of us.Bullshit.That was obvious bullshit.Protect us from what? From Santiago? The same bastard who had already tried to kill us? The same one who had put Amelie in the ground, so close to not coming back up?He was selling off one of us and using the excuse that made him feel good about himself. I hit the bag again, harder this time, my shoulders snapping forwar

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Nothing but Him

_Amelie’s POV_The door was still trembling in its frame from Matteo’s exit when the quiet settled. Not the kind of quiet you get when a conversation dies — this was heavier. Hollow. The kind of silence that seemed to swallow even the sound of your own heartbeat.Nico was pacing. Back and forth, sharp turns at each wall, like if he stopped moving the anger might eat him alive. Luca hadn’t moved at all. His elbows rested on his knees, head bowed low, hands clasped like he was trying to hold something together.I sat there, staring at the space Matteo had left, the slam of the door still echoing somewhere in my chest. My fingers ached — I realized I was gripping the edge of the blanket so tightly the threads were biting into my skin.I didn’t like how any of this was going. It would have been easy to stay silent. Let them fight. Let them all tear each other apart if they needed to. But the longer Nico stalked the room, the more I saw the way his jaw was locked, the muscle ticking. He w

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Coward

Amelie’s POVThe air felt thick, like if I breathed too deeply, it might crack.Nico hadn’t moved, not really, but the shift in him was immediate. His gaze was no longer on me. It was fixed on Luca — sharp, unblinking, dangerous.“You knew.”Not a question. Not even an accusation at first. Just a fact laid bare in the open.Luca didn’t answer. His jaw was tight, lips pressed into a flat line.Nico took a slow step forward, and I swear the floorboards creaked under the weight of it. “Santiago came to me,” he said, his voice so low it almost blended into the quiet. “He wanted the same thing from me. My loyalty. My silence. YOUR life.”The words were slow, deliberate, but his anger was a living thing — I could feel it pulsing through the room.“But I didn’t take the deal,” Nico went on, eyes narrowing. “I didn’t even think about taking the deal. And then I find out—” He stopped, his mouth curling into something sharp and cold. “—that you’d already agreed to give me up.”Matteo’s head sna

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Secrets

_Amelie’s POV_The room was too quiet. Not the peaceful kind of quiet — the kind that made your skin itch because you knew someone was thinking too much.Luca was sitting on the edge of my bed, one hand braced against the mattress like he could keep me from sliding away. Matteo leaned against the wall near the door, his arms folded, eyes scanning the room in a way that told me he was still replaying the earlier scare — the shadow of someone in the hall, the hurried voices. Nico sat in the chair by the window, elbows on his knees, watching me like I might shatter if he looked away for too long.I pulled the blanket a little higher, even though I wasn’t cold. They were waiting for me to speak, but it seemed as if I took too long to. Luca spoke first then.“We need to know exactly what Santiago did to you.”The words landed like a weight in my chest. I stared at him, at the way his tone was steady but his eyes… they weren’t steady at all.“It doesn’t matter,” I said quickly, trying to c

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   The truth

_Amelie’s POV_The house felt different after the man was gone. Not quieter — no, quite the opposite. It was too loud. Voices downstairs, doors slamming, the steady creak of footsteps on the stairs. Every sound made my stomach clench.I sat curled on the bed with my knees tucked up, a blanket wrapped so tightly around me it might as well have been armor. My heart hadn’t slowed since the intruder lunged for me. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him again — that mask, that knife, the way he just stood there and breathed like he had all the time in the world. And I thought it was a fucking dream. Nico was checking the windows for the third time, his movements quick but careful. He had this way of looking at the glass like he could kill someone just by glaring through it. Luca stood near the desk, murmuring into his phone in clipped Italian. Matteo paced the length of the room, his boots hitting the floor too sharply for comfort.None of them spoke to each other. The air was thick with
