Blood.

That was the first thing I smelled when I yanked the door open and stormed inside. Copper, sharp, and heavy in the air. The second thing I saw was Nico, pacing like a caged animal, his shirt torn and blood running down the side of his face. Matteo was slumped on a chair, half-conscious, while Luca leaned against the wall with his jaw clenched, his knuckles scraped raw.

And the third thing I saw—the thing that made my chest split wide open—was the empty space where Amelie should have been.

I froze for half a heartbeat. Just half. Then rage came barreling through me like wildfire.

So she really wasn’t here.

I had prayed it was some sort of false information, but my prayer had clearly not been answered.

“You idiots.” The words ripped from my throat before I could stop them. “You absolute idiots.”

Nico froze mid-step. Matteo groaned softly but didn’t lift his head. Luca didn’t even flinch.

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   So close to death

It was either death or death. That was the two options he had given me.I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. My throat was too dry.He smiled, slow and wide and gestured lazily toward the wall behind me.That was when I heard it—the hum. Low, mechanical, buzzing like a heart beginning to beat. My stomach sank as I twisted to look.A clock. Not small, not subtle. A massive face bolted high against the wall, red digital numbers flickering to life.05:00The sound it made when it ticked down—loud, sharp, metallic—cut through the stillness like a knife. What— what was that for?“Five minutes,” Raphael said simply, his voice echoing. “Five minutes to decide. Five doors. One leads to freedom. Four lead to death.”My eyes darted across the room, heart hammering so hard it shook my ribs. The doors were there, evenly spaced across the opposite wall. Each identical. Each dark, foreboding. My breath caught in my chest.“And if you don’t choose,” he added, that smile curling cruel, “the floor beneath yo

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   A game

_Amelie’s POV_The image of the man’s body crumpled on the ground replayed behind my eyelids like a cruel film reel I couldn’t shut off. Every blink dragged me back to the moment—the rope shuddering, the knot slipping, his scream splitting the air. Then silence. Broken bones and blood. That could have been me.It should have been me.I knew my hands were shaking while I tied the knot, so what made me think I would be able to climb three stories down with that?My chest heaved so violently I thought I would vomit again. The edges of my vision blurred, black creeping in from every corner. I wanted to crawl back to the window, throw myself after him, but rough hands kept me pinned in place. Because dying was better than being Raphael’s plaything. My breaths were ragged, uneven, and my body refused to obey the command to fight.Raphael was still crouched in front of me, his shadow covering me like a blanket I couldn’t shake off. His lips curved into something that wasn’t quite a smile,

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Rather be Broken than Bound

_Amelie’s POV_The moment Raphael’s eyes found me, the rope slipped through my shaking hands. My arms were trembling so badly that I couldn’t even feel the burn of the fabric cutting into my palms anymore. For one fleeting, insane heartbeat, I thought I could dive before they reached me, thought I could throw myself out the window and let the air swallow me whole. Because doing that was certainly way better than Raphael getting close to me again. But his men were already on me.They came so fast, I barely got the chance to react. The rope jerked back, my body wrenched with it. A shout tore from my throat as two pairs of hands clamped down on my arms, pinning me so tight I thought the bones would snap. I twisted, nails digging at skin, at sleeves, at anything I could tear open, but they only dragged me harder. I knew there was a chance I would lose my balance and fall off if they let go of me, but I didn't care. My heels scraped the wooden floor. The world tilted, then slammed up

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Escape

_Amelie’s POV_ The sound of metal shattering was still in my head when I woke up with a start. It was all I could hear. Screeching tires, the roar of the impact and the sickening crunch of a car folding in on itself. My stomach lurched violently and before I even knew what was happening, I rolled onto my side, gagging. Bitter acid scorched my throat as I vomited onto the floor beside the mattress, body heaving so hard my ribs felt like they would snap. Please no. Let it all be a dream. I prayed harder than I ever did that everything that happened was a dream and maybe I had died after I passed out on the road. But It was too real. Too close and I knew better than that. I could still see it, burned into the back of my eyelids. The way the truck came out of nowhere. The way Luca’s car spun, flipped, shrieked. I swear I heard the sound of Nico’s shout breaking mid-word and Matteo’s curse swallowed by the crash.I had heard them scream as Raphael stared at me, showing me what type

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   No Mercy

_Luca’s POV_The world didn’t just crash—it folded in on itself.Metal screamed, the kind of sound that splits straight through bone, as the truck slammed into us from the left. One second, Raphael’s car was in sight. The next, the entire universe became shattering glass, the whip of a seatbelt against my chest, my skull slamming hard enough into the headrest that stars burst behind my eyes.We spun over and over. Tires screeched, grinding rubber against asphalt. The car tipped, swayed, threatened to roll. Matteo cursed, Nico’s guttural shout ripped the air, and I—I couldn’t breathe. The scent of gasoline hit first, sharp, acrid, burning. The way it always had. And right now I wasn’t there anymore. My vision wasn't of the car but of flames licking through wooden beams, smoke choking the air and skin blistering from heat. The smell of burning hair. The sting of fire so close it kissed the inside of your lungs.Suddenly I wasn’t thirty-two years old behind the wheel of a wrecked c
