Morning light in the Valerius estate was never gentle; it was clinical, exposing every speck of dust and every crack in the facade. Julian woke with the taste of Kaelen still on his tongue and a hollow ache in his chest that had nothing to do with exhaustion. When he turned to his side, the space beside him was empty. The sheets were cool, the indentation where Kaelen had lain already fading.

He sat up, rubbing his face with shaking hands. His body felt heavy, marked by the ghost of Kaelen's touch. The memory of their intimacy felt like a fever dream too vivid to be false, yet too dangerous to be real. He dressed slowly, each button a reminder of the vulnerability he had surrendered. When he finally emerged from his suite, he found Kaelen waiting in the hallway, already fully composed in a crisp black suit, looking as though the night's transgression had never occurred.

"Breakfast is in twenty minutes," Kaelen said, his voice as flat and professional as a blade. "Your father wants to discuss the new security protocols before the board meeting."

Julian stared at him, searching for some crack, some flicker of the man who had held him against the wall. "You're very good at this," Julian said quietly. "The quick reset."

Kaelen's gray eyes met his. "I don't know what you mean."

"Don't lie to me. Not after last night."

"Last night was a lapse in judgment for both of us." Kaelen took a half step closer, his shadow falling over Julian. His voice dropped lower, rougher. "One that we will not repeat. My priority is your survival, not your gratification."

The dismissal stung worse than a slap. Julian wanted to scream, to demand that Kaelen acknowledge the raw honesty of what they had shared, but he knew he had no leverage. Kaelen had already reclaimed the upper hand.

"Fine," Julian spat, forcing his own composure back into place. "Let's play your game. Let's pretend you're just the hired help."

The walk to the dining hall felt like walking through a minefield. Kaelen remained exactly three steps behind, his presence a constant, physical pressure against Julian's back. Every time Julian's pulse quickened whether from fear or the memory of Kaelen's hands he could feel Kaelen's gaze tracking him. It wasn't just surveillance; it was ownership.

The dining room was an arena of cold marble and silver. Arthur Valerius sat at the head of the long table, reading the morning's financial reports. He didn't look up when they entered. "Sit," Arthur commanded. "We have work to do."

As they ate in a silence broken only by the scrape of silverware, Julian felt the walls closing in. The security detail was tripled. Men in dark suits patrolled the perimeter like wolves guarding a lamb. But as Julian glanced at Kaelen, who stood motionless behind his father's chair, a new terror took root. Kaelen wasn't watching the doors. He wasn't watching the windows. He was watching *Julian.* His eyes followed every swallow, every nervous fidget of Julian's fingers. It was the gaze of a man who wasn't just guarding an asset, but savoring a conquest.

"The breach was internal," Arthur said suddenly, setting his coffee cup down with a sharp click. "Someone inside this house gave up our positions. Someone gave them the access codes to the perimeter sensors."

Julian felt a chill that had nothing to do with the air conditioning. The room suddenly felt too small, the shadows in the corners too deep. He glanced at Kaelen. The bodyguard hadn't moved, but his entire posture had shifted he was no longer just standing; he was coiled, ready to strike.

"What does that mean for me?" Julian asked, his voice steadier than he felt.

"It means you don't leave this room without Kaelen's direct permission. Not for the board meeting, not for your office, not even for a walk in the gardens. You are under lockdown." Arthur finally looked up, his eyes hard as flint. "Until we identify the mole, you are a prisoner in your own home."

"A prisoner?" Julian's blood boiled. "I am not a child, Father."

"You are a target," Arthur snapped. "And until I can guarantee your safety, Kaelen's word is law. Am I clear?"

Kaelen's voice cut through the room like a guillotine. "Perfectly clear."

The meeting ended with the hollow sounds of retreating footsteps, leaving Julian alone with Kaelen in the cavernous dining room. The silence that followed was heavy, charged with the unspoken electricity of their shared history and the new reality of their forced proximity.

Julian stood abruptly, the chair screeching against the floor. "I need to go to my study. I need to think."

"You're going nowhere alone," Kaelen said, stepping forward. His hand shot out, gripping Julian's wrist. It wasn't a gentle touch; it was firm, undeniable, and possessive. "From this moment on, I am your shadow."

"Let go of me," Julian hissed, twisting his wrist. "I don't need a warden, Kaelen. I need space."

But Kaelen didn't flinch. Instead, he tightened his grip, pulling Julian forward until they were inches apart. The heat rolling off Kaelen's body was overwhelming, a stark contrast to the icy words he had spoken moments before.

"Space is what got you shot, Julian," Kaelen growled, his voice dropping to a dangerous, gravelly register. "Space is what allowed them to get close enough to touch you. There is no space anymore. There is only me."

"You're not protecting me," Julian whispered, his breath catching as Kaelen's free hand came up to rest against the wall behind Julian's head, effectively caging him. "You're claiming me. There's a difference."

Kaelen's gray eyes darkened, the pupils dilating until they nearly swallowed the iris. For a heartbeat, the professional bodyguard vanished, replaced by the raw, hungry predator who had claimed Julian's mouth in the dark of night. His thumb traced the pulse point at Julian's wrist, feeling the frantic, rabbit quick heartbeat beneath the skin.

"What's the difference?" Kaelen asked, his lips brushing against Julian's ear, sending a traitorous shiver down Julian's spine. "If I protect you, I own your safety. If I own your safety, I own everything that comes with it."

Julian should have pushed him away. He should have screamed for his father. But his body was betraying him, leaning into the hard planes of Kaelen's chest, desperate for the very touch that promised to ruin him. The danger outside the room was real there was a traitor in the house, a killer in the shadows but the danger standing directly in front of him was far more intoxicating.

Kaelen leaned in closer, his lips hovering just shy of Julian's. "Tell me to stop, Julian. Tell me right now that you want me to walk away and leave you to your own devices."

Julian opened his mouth to protest, to reassert his defiance, but all that came out was a broken exhale. His fingers curled into the fabric of Kaelen's black suit, pulling him closer instead of pushing him away.

"I can't," Julian confessed, the words tasting like surrender.

Kaelen's grip shifted from Julian's wrist to his waist, hauling him flush against him. "Good."

Before Julian could react, Kaelen's mouth crashed down onto his not with tenderness, but with a desperate, punishing hunger that claimed every inch of his surrender. It was a kiss that tasted of war and salvation, a promise that while the world outside might burn, Julian would be consumed by Kaelen Thorne first.

Outside, the heavy oak doors of the dining room creaked open, but neither of them moved. The hunter had found his prey, and the prey had stopped running.

  • Bound By His Protection    THE MAN INSIDE

Julian stared at Kaelen, unable to make sense of the words. The traitor is already inside. His mind reached for every face he had seen that night, every servant who had walked the halls, every guard who had passed through the estate. None of them stood out. They had all been familiar, trusted, ordinary. But after tonight, ordinary meant nothing. How do you know? Julian asked.Kaelen's eyes remained fixed on him. Blood ran from the cut along his cheek, disappearing beneath the collar of his torn shirt. I know because whoever breached the estate knew the security layout.Julian swallowed. That doesn't answer my question. It answers enough of it.No. Julian shook his head. It doesn't.For the first time since Kaelen had returned, something shifted in his expression. Not fear. Not surprise. Caution. Julian noticed. You know something, he said.Kaelen's jaw tightened. I know what I saw. Then tell me.Kaelen looked toward the open vault door. We need to leave this room.Julian almost laughe

  • Bound By His Protection    Blood and Bone

The silence inside the panic room was not peaceful; it was a vacuum that sucked the air from Julian's lungs. Pressed against the cold steel wall, his heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. Kaelen stood over him, a wall of muscle and lethal intent, his shadow swallowing Julian whole. The crimson emergency light cast harsh angles across Kaelen's face, turning his eyes into two bottomless pits of darkness. Then, the silence broke.A muffled explosion reverberated through the reinforced walls, followed immediately by the distinctive, staccato rhythm of gunfire. The sound was distant but unmistakable someone was shooting in the east wing. The estate, once a sanctuary, was being torn apart.Julian gasped, his hand flying to his mouth to stifle a sob. The reality of it crashed down on him: this wasn't a threat. This wasn't a prank. This was an assassination attempt.Kaelen didn't flinch. His body remained perfectly still, but Julian could see the minute adjustments in his stanc

  • Bound By His Protection    The Shadow's Edge

The phone lay face down on the silk duvet, but Julian could still feel its phantom heat against his palm. The message three words that had no business being so devastating seemed to vibrate through the very mattress beneath him. I see you.He rolled onto his side, pulling the covers tighter around his shoulders as if fabric could protect him from eyes he couldn't see. The Valerius estate had always been a fortress, a sprawling monument to his family's untouchable power. But tonight, the marble corridors felt like arteries, and the shadows stretching across his bedroom walls felt like grasping hands. Every creak of the old wood, every sigh of the wind against the reinforced glass windows, sounded like a footstep."It's paranoia, Julian. Get it together." His own voice sounded foreign to him thin, fragile, and utterly betrayed by the tremor in his hands. He tried to force himself to breathe, to practice the measured composure his father had beaten into him since childhood. But the com

  • Bound By His Protection    The Price of Surrender

The sound of the door creaking open was like a gunshot in the silent dining room. Kaelen tore himself away from Julian as if burned. In a heartbeat, the raw hunger in his eyes vanished, replaced by the impenetrable mask of the professional bodyguard. His breathing was controlled, though his pupils were still blown wide with residual heat. He stepped back, putting three feet of cold marble between them before Julian could even catch his breath.Julian stumbled slightly, his lips tingling and swollen, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. His skin felt hypersensitive, every nerve ending screaming from the sudden absence of Kaelen's touch. He turned, trying to smooth his hair and compose his expression, but his hands were shaking too violently.Standing in the doorway was Marcus, Arthur Valerius's longtime personal assistant a man who had been part of the estate's furniture for as long as Julian could remember. But today, Marcus didn't look like the harmless, graying

  • Bound By His Protection    The Velvet Trap

The night did not bring peace; it brought a suffocating intimacy. Kaelen had taken his warning literally. He no longer stood outside the door like a silent sentinel; he was now stationed inside Julian's suite, seated in a leather armchair positioned where he could see both the door and the balcony. The room felt smaller, the air charged with the unspoken tension between them. Julian tried to read, tried to drink wine, tried to pretend he wasn't acutely aware of the man breathing softly in the corner, but every movement felt performative. He was being watched, not just for safety, but for weakness.By midnight, the silence became unbearable. Julian stood up abruptly, his wine glass clinking against the marble tabletop. "Do you ever stop?" he demanded, turning to face Kaelen. "Do you ever just... exist without assessing threats?"Kaelen opened his eyes. They were luminous in the dim lamplight, sharp and focused. "Existing is a luxury I can't afford, Julian. My job is to ensure you conti
