The sound of the door creaking open was like a gunshot in the silent dining room.

Kaelen tore himself away from Julian as if burned. In a heartbeat, the raw hunger in his eyes vanished, replaced by the impenetrable mask of the professional bodyguard. His breathing was controlled, though his pupils were still blown wide with residual heat. He stepped back, putting three feet of cold marble between them before Julian could even catch his breath.

Julian stumbled slightly, his lips tingling and swollen, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. His skin felt hypersensitive, every nerve ending screaming from the sudden absence of Kaelen's touch. He turned, trying to smooth his hair and compose his expression, but his hands were shaking too violently.

Standing in the doorway was Marcus, Arthur Valerius's longtime personal assistant a man who had been part of the estate's furniture for as long as Julian could remember. But today, Marcus didn't look like the harmless, graying bureaucrat Julian knew. His eyes were sharp, darting between Julian's flushed face and Kaelen's rigid stance.

"Forgive the intrusion," Marcus said, his voice smooth but carrying an odd edge. "Your father requires you both in the security war room immediately. The intelligence team has just intercepted an encrypted transmission."

Kaelen's hand moved instinctively to the concealed holster at his hip. "We're coming."

Marcus nodded and retreated, but his lingering gaze stayed on Julian for a second too long long enough for Julian to feel a prickle of unease at the base of his neck.

"We're leaving," Kaelen said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. "Stay close."

The walk to the security war room felt different than the walk before. Before, the tension had been a secret shared between them. Now, it was a weapon. Julian felt exposed, as if the mark of Kaelen's kiss was written across his throat in crimson ink. He felt Kaelen's presence behind him not as a protector, but as a reminder of how easily he could be undone.

The war room was a high tech fortress buried in the basement of the estate. Blue light from dozens of monitors cast eerie shadows across the faces of the security team. Arthur Valerius stood at the center, surrounded by tactical displays showing heat maps of the estate grounds.

"Sit down," Arthur commanded without looking up. "We have confirmation."

Julian took his seat, feeling Kaelen's shadow loom directly behind his chair. Kaelen's hand rested on the back of Julian's seat, his fingers inches from Julian's shoulder. It was a claim. A silent warning to anyone in the room: *This is mine to guard.*

"The transmission came from inside the network," Arthur said, tapping a screen. A series of encrypted files appeared, scrolling past in green text. "The traitor didn't just give up access codes. They've been feeding us false intelligence for months. Every patrol route we've taken, every security upgrade we've implemented they knew about them before we even signed off on them."

Julian's stomach twisted. "So the enemy has been watching us from inside the house the entire time."

"Worse," Arthur said, turning to face them. His eyes were hollow. "They've been waiting for the right moment to strike. And judging by the timing of this breach, that moment is tonight."

Julian felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. He glanced up at Kaelen, seeking some kind of reassurance, but Kaelen wasn't looking at the screens. He was staring at Arthur. His jaw was set, his eyes narrowed in suspicion.

"You seem concerned, Thorne," Arthur noted, his voice dropping dangerously low. "Does the intelligence suggest something you aren't telling me?"

The room went silent. Even the hum of the computers seemed to fade as every eye turned toward the bodyguard.

Kaelen didn't flinch under Arthur's scrutiny. "I'm not concerned about the intelligence, sir," Kaelen said, his voice like granite. "I'm concerned about the response time. If they're already inside the network, they're already inside our perimeter. We shouldn't be discussing files; we should be hunting."

Arthur nodded grimly, accepting the answer. Kaelen's reputation as a cold, tactical machine made him the perfect asset and the perfect shield against suspicion. "You're right. Double the perimeter patrols. Lock down the east wing."

While Arthur turned back to the monitors, shouting orders at the security team, Julian's gaze wandered. He felt dizzy, the adrenaline from the kiss in the dining room clashing violently with the terror of the situation. His eyes drifted to one of the secondary screens a live feed from the service corridor near the east wing.

It was a grainy, black and white shot of a hallway. A figure moved past the camera.

Julian froze. His breath hitched audibly.

"Julian?" Kaelen's voice was a low murmur, so quiet only Julian could hear it. He had leaned down, his lips nearly brushing Julian's ear again. "What is it?"

Julian couldn't speak. He pointed weakly at the screen.

Kaelen's eyes followed his finger. On the monitor, the figure in the hallway stopped. It was Marcus. But he wasn't walking with his usual measured, bureaucratic gait. He was moving with purpose, ducking into a maintenance alcove that shouldn't have been accessible to him. More importantly, Kaelen noticed something Julian hadn't Marcus was carrying something small and metallic. A device. An interceptor.

"Sir," Kaelen said, his voice cutting through Arthur's orders like a blade. "I need to check the east wing corridor immediately. I saw something on the feed."

Arthur turned, frowning. "Now? We're in the middle of "

"Now," Kaelen insisted, already moving. "Security is compromised. Every second we waste sitting here is a second they use to tighten the noose."

Arthur hesitated, then waved him off. "Go. But take two of the tactical team with you."

"No," Kaelen said, his eyes locking onto Arthur's with absolute authority. "If there's a mole, adding more boots to the ground only gives them more targets. Let me handle it quietly. I'll report back in ten minutes."

Arthur gritted his teeth but nodded. "Ten minutes, Thorne. Then I want answers."

Kaelen turned to Julian, his expression unreadable. "Stay here. Do not leave this room. Do not speak to anyone except the security personnel assigned to this door."

"Kaelen, wait " Julian started, wanting to tell him what he'd seen, but Kaelen was already moving toward the exit.

"Stay." The command wasn't a request; it was a vow.

As Kaelen disappeared through the heavy security doors, Julian felt a wave of panic crash over him. He knew what he had seen. Marcus wasn't just an assistant; he was a wolf in sheep's clothing. And Kaelen was walking straight into a trap.

Julian looked around the room. Everyone was focused on the screens, on the data, on Arthur. No one was looking at him. No one knew that the heir to the Valerius empire had just witnessed the first crack in their fortress.

His phone vibrated in his pocket. A text message from an unknown number.

Julian's fingers trembled as he swiped it open.

**[I saw what happened in the dining room, Julian. Be careful who you trust. The protector might be more dangerous than the assassin.]**

Julian's heart stopped. His eyes darted up to Kaelen's empty chair, then to the security cameras watching them all.

Someone was watching him. Someone knew about the kiss. And that someone was already inside his head.

  • Bound By His Protection    THE MAN INSIDE

Julian stared at Kaelen, unable to make sense of the words. The traitor is already inside. His mind reached for every face he had seen that night, every servant who had walked the halls, every guard who had passed through the estate. None of them stood out. They had all been familiar, trusted, ordinary. But after tonight, ordinary meant nothing. How do you know? Julian asked.Kaelen's eyes remained fixed on him. Blood ran from the cut along his cheek, disappearing beneath the collar of his torn shirt. I know because whoever breached the estate knew the security layout.Julian swallowed. That doesn't answer my question. It answers enough of it.No. Julian shook his head. It doesn't.For the first time since Kaelen had returned, something shifted in his expression. Not fear. Not surprise. Caution. Julian noticed. You know something, he said.Kaelen's jaw tightened. I know what I saw. Then tell me.Kaelen looked toward the open vault door. We need to leave this room.Julian almost laughe

The silence inside the panic room was not peaceful; it was a vacuum that sucked the air from Julian's lungs. Pressed against the cold steel wall, his heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. Kaelen stood over him, a wall of muscle and lethal intent, his shadow swallowing Julian whole. The crimson emergency light cast harsh angles across Kaelen's face, turning his eyes into two bottomless pits of darkness. Then, the silence broke.A muffled explosion reverberated through the reinforced walls, followed immediately by the distinctive, staccato rhythm of gunfire. The sound was distant but unmistakable someone was shooting in the east wing. The estate, once a sanctuary, was being torn apart.Julian gasped, his hand flying to his mouth to stifle a sob. The reality of it crashed down on him: this wasn't a threat. This wasn't a prank. This was an assassination attempt.Kaelen didn't flinch. His body remained perfectly still, but Julian could see the minute adjustments in his stanc

  • Bound By His Protection    The Shadow's Edge

The phone lay face down on the silk duvet, but Julian could still feel its phantom heat against his palm. The message three words that had no business being so devastating seemed to vibrate through the very mattress beneath him. I see you.He rolled onto his side, pulling the covers tighter around his shoulders as if fabric could protect him from eyes he couldn't see. The Valerius estate had always been a fortress, a sprawling monument to his family's untouchable power. But tonight, the marble corridors felt like arteries, and the shadows stretching across his bedroom walls felt like grasping hands. Every creak of the old wood, every sigh of the wind against the reinforced glass windows, sounded like a footstep."It's paranoia, Julian. Get it together." His own voice sounded foreign to him thin, fragile, and utterly betrayed by the tremor in his hands. He tried to force himself to breathe, to practice the measured composure his father had beaten into him since childhood. But the com

  • Bound By His Protection     The Fractured Mirror

Morning light in the Valerius estate was never gentle; it was clinical, exposing every speck of dust and every crack in the facade. Julian woke with the taste of Kaelen still on his tongue and a hollow ache in his chest that had nothing to do with exhaustion. When he turned to his side, the space beside him was empty. The sheets were cool, the indentation where Kaelen had lain already fading. He sat up, rubbing his face with shaking hands. His body felt heavy, marked by the ghost of Kaelen's touch. The memory of their intimacy felt like a fever dream too vivid to be false, yet too dangerous to be real. He dressed slowly, each button a reminder of the vulnerability he had surrendered. When he finally emerged from his suite, he found Kaelen waiting in the hallway, already fully composed in a crisp black suit, looking as though the night's transgression had never occurred."Breakfast is in twenty minutes," Kaelen said, his voice as flat and professional as a blade. "Your father wants to

  • Bound By His Protection    The Velvet Trap

The night did not bring peace; it brought a suffocating intimacy. Kaelen had taken his warning literally. He no longer stood outside the door like a silent sentinel; he was now stationed inside Julian's suite, seated in a leather armchair positioned where he could see both the door and the balcony. The room felt smaller, the air charged with the unspoken tension between them. Julian tried to read, tried to drink wine, tried to pretend he wasn't acutely aware of the man breathing softly in the corner, but every movement felt performative. He was being watched, not just for safety, but for weakness.By midnight, the silence became unbearable. Julian stood up abruptly, his wine glass clinking against the marble tabletop. "Do you ever stop?" he demanded, turning to face Kaelen. "Do you ever just... exist without assessing threats?"Kaelen opened his eyes. They were luminous in the dim lamplight, sharp and focused. "Existing is a luxury I can't afford, Julian. My job is to ensure you conti
