The room was dimly lit, scented with espresso and faint cologne. The silence was heavy, not empty, but expectant. The type of silence that hung before people confessed sins or signed death warrants.

Talana sat at the center table of the old Berlin loft, flanked by thick screens, a polished laptop, and Massimo’s quiet presence behind her. The others, Mariano, Matteo, and a cyber-specialist from Naples named Carlotta, circled the space like wolves on the scent of blood.

“Is the feed ready?” Talana asked, voice low, fingers tapping once on the table.

Carlotta gave a small nod. “Encrypted, bounced through eight servers. They won’t know what country we’re in, let alone which block.”

“Good,” Talana said. “Begin transmission.”

The screen flickered to life. On one side: Albrecht Keller, a notorious German arms dealer, known for supplying Eastern European militias and privately funded warlords. Greying, smug, and coked to the gills.

On the other: Talana, still as glass.

The moment Gianna and Lorenzo stepped off the jet with their daughter in Gianna’s arms, Berlin felt different.Talana hadn’t expected her. No one had. Orders had been clear, Gianna and the baby were to remain in Italy, under guard, far from De Marco’s reach. But the stubborn fire in Gianna’s blood had always mirrored Talana’s own.“She insisted,” Lorenzo said, carrying two heavy duffels, his eyes never leaving the perimeter. “Said she didn’t want the baby growing up thinking we waited this out from a villa.”Talana stood at the edge of the hangar, eyes sweeping over the tiny bundle cradled against Gianna’s chest. The little girl was swaddled in a pale pink blanket, her head resting beneath her mother’s chin, utterly untouched by the violence that buzzed beneath every breath of this city.Gianna walked straight to Talana and offered no apology, just emotion. “I needed you to meet her,” she said softly.Talana stared at the baby, then slowly reached out. “She’s perfect,” she whispered,

The storm over Berlin had begun to mirror what stirred in Talana.Heavy rain ran in rivulets down the tall windows of the safehouse, streaking across the distorted reflection of her face as she stood silent, arms folded, gaze locked on the distant skyline. Somewhere out there, another outpost burned, one of De Marco’s mid-level data hubs that Mariano’s team had gutted just before dawn.Talana hadn’t spoken much after they returned. Not during the debriefing. Not even when Matteo tried to joke that they were running out of safehouses to torch. She was stone, colder than the rain, and Massimo could feel it from where he sat, a half-empty glass of scotch in his hand and the weight of months resting on his shoulders.“You didn’t sleep,” he said, quietly. She didn’t turn. “Didn’t need to.”“You haven’t slept in three days.”“Then maybe I’ll sleep when this city chokes on its ashes.”Massimo’s brow tightened. He stood and crossed the room, setting the glass down. She still wouldn’t look at

The morning sky over Berlin was steel gray, the clouds hanging low as if mourning something unseen. Talana stood by the window of the Sanchiano safehouse, her hands clasped behind her back, watching the city churn below. Her eyes were hollowed by too many sleepless nights, the reflection in the glass no longer the girl who had arrived weeks ago, but a Dona forged by war and betrayal.A sharp knock at the door. "Come," she said without turning.Mariano stepped inside, a tablet in his hand and fresh bruises marking his jaw. "We intercepted something from Calabria. Roberto sent this. Top priority."Talana took the tablet, and Mariano lingered silently as she tapped the screen. The video began to play, Roberto, seated in his villa study, gaunt but sharp-eyed, his tone laced with steel."Talana, this is not a confession, but a warning. One of the families you've reached out to in Berlin, the Altobellis, they are not who they claim. We have eyes on their movements. They met with De Marco's

Berlin – Perimeter of the Morelli–Sanchiano Base, 3:02 A.M.The first sign came with the dogs. They weren't real ones, just the name whispered over encrypted comms: “The Dogs of Moscow.”Elite Russian mercenaries. Ex-Spetsnaz. Hired killers with a taste for chaos and a code forged in Siberian frost. Donatello hadn’t sent a warning. He sent them like a curse.Mariano was already dressed in black before the alarm blared. His body armor cinched, two custom blades strapped to his back like an old ritual.“Everyone out of the north wing, now,” he barked.Sirens split the quiet of night. Shadows moved through the outer forest line, six, no, twelve, armed figures, ghostlike. The mercenaries didn’t fire immediately. They liked fear to settle in first.Talana stood on the command deck, jaw tight, boots planted. Massimo was at her side. He gritted his teeth as he watched the surveillance feed flicker with thermal red signatures surrounding them.“How the hell did they find this place?”“Donatel

Sanchiano safehouse, Berlin – 2:12 a.m. The war room pulsed with low light, tense voices threading through maps of Berlin’s underground. Coordinates glowed like veins across the table—marked targets, intercepted routes, ghost agents in De Marco’s pocket. Talana stood at the head of it all, her spine straight, her face unreadable, delivering orders with the precision of a general.Mariano paced near the wall. Matteo translated fresh intel from Bucharest. No one noticed the shadow slipping through the side door, no one except Talana. Her body went still before her mind caught up.A presence, one that slammed into her ribs like a memory she hadn’t dared to hope for. Then she saw him. The man she would die for, Massimo. He moved like a storm disguised in human skin, shoulders broader, face sharp with unshaved stubble and hollow eyes that had seen too much. A long scar ran from beneath his jaw to his collarbone, fresh and angry. He wore black. Everything about him was dark. But it was him.
