The engine of the car rumbled itself to silence as Darius pulled into the long driveway of one of his estates. Snow drifted down in heavy, wet flakes, clinging to the hood of the sleek Winston Carriage and frosting the stone steps that led to his front door.

For a long moment, he didn’t move or exit from the car. He just sat in the driver’s seat with one hand gripping the wheel loosely. He stared ahead, catching the faint glow that penetrated from the windows of the big house through the snow.

And somewhere in that house, Wayne lay weakly like he'd never wake. With his surroundings unknown to him and his mind still fighting his pain.

Darius worked his jaw, as though he was caught between restraint and the urge to snap. He hated the quiet hesitation he drowned himself in, the way his heart thudded harder and louder the longer he lingered there. He was both terrified and excited, like a teenager daring to do what he was told not to do.

At last, with a curt exhale, he shoved the door op

“It’s Kael’s.”Elaris’s voice was barely a breath, but it hit Darius like a blow to the chest. For a heartbeat, nobody moved as the candles flickered. Wayne’s shallow breathing scraped the silence like a blade. Then Darius’s hand curled into a fist.“What did you just say?” His voice came low, shaking.Elaris didn’t look at him at first. Her eyes were still locked on the swirling black smoke rising from Wayne’s chest. “Kael Frost,” she whispered again. “This toxin was brewed by him or by someone trained under his mark. I would know that scent anywhere.”Rylan swore under his breath, and Darius’s jaw worked as rage gathered like thunder under his skin.“You’re sure?” he asked.Elaris nodded once. “Beyond any doubt. The mixture hides inside liquids wine, tea, even water. Whoever gave it to him planned every drop.”Darius’s gaze snapped toward the tray sitting on the table. Two cups, one half-empty. The smell of herbs lingered, faint and sour. He walked over, every step tight and heavy,

Wayne’s fever burned through the night, and whole house smelled of damp fur and medicine. But Darius didn’t leave his side once. Now the healers got involved, and they had tried every roots, herbs, water charms, but nothing worked. Wayne only got hotter with breath turning shallow.Darius sat beside the bed, one hand pressed to Wayne’s chest, feeling the weak thump of his heart. And every beat felt like a countdown he couldn’t stop.“Wayne,” he murmured, brushing his sweat-drenched hair off his face. “Stay with me. You hear me?”Wayne stirred weakly, eyes half-open. “D…Darius?”“I’m here,” Darius said, his voice rougher than he wanted.“Why are you—“ Wayne’s words faded into a groan. “Sorry…”“Don’t you dare apologize.” Darius gritted his teeth. “You’ve done nothing wrong.”But his chest tightened when Wayne mumbled his name this time, soft and fragile. It shouldn’t have made his heart clench that way, but it did.“Darius…” Wayne’s lips trembled. “Don’t… leave.”Darius’s wolf responde

The sun hadn’t even climbed high when Darius’s voice thundered across the training ground.“Form up! No delays.”The pack scrambled into a circle, dust swirling under their boots. Wayne came in last, sweat already sliding down his back. His vision swam for a second, but he blinked hard and forced himself straight.Darius stood at the center, eyes cold and unreadable. “We’re pushing limits today. You fall behind, you start over. You fail me, you answer for it.” His gaze locked on Wayne. “You especially.”Wayne swallowed hard as his stomach twisted. He’d barely eaten that morning, and the water Astra had given him still left a strange taste in his mouth. But this wasn’t the time to complain.“Yes, Alpha,” he said quietly.Darius motioned. “Pair up.”They split into groups. Wayne found himself across from Kellan again.Try not to pass out this time, pup,” Kellan mocked.Wayne didn’t reply. He just lifted his fists with hands that shook slightly.“Begin!” Darius barked.Kellan charged fir

The door creaked as Astra stepped into her father’s study, and the smell of smoke and dominance hit her nostrils headfirst.Kael didn’t look up from the map spread across the desk, knife tapping against the wood with slow, rhythmic patience.“You’re late,” He said flatly.Astra folded her hands neatly in front of her. “I had to make sure no one followed.”“Anyone would think you’re doing something worth hiding,” Kael muttered, finally raising his head. His eyes cold, sharp as a blade when they landed on her. “Report.”Astra smirked, leaning a shoulder against the wall. “He’s getting worse.”Kael’s brow lifted. “Darius?”She nodded. “He barely sleeps. He’s distracted during training. He watches that boy like he’s something precious.” Her voice dripped of disgust. “Pathetic.”Kael gave a humorless laugh. “Obsession. That’s what happens when power forgets itself.”“He’s not fit to lead if a weakling can twist his head so easily,” Astra said, circling the desk. “That boy’s nothing speci

The morning sun hadn’t fully broken the mist when Darius walked into the training ground. His shirt hung loose around his shoulders, sleeves rolled up. The air carried the scent of steel and sweat.“Up,” he said, voice cutting through the fog. “All of you. Circle up.”The warriors jumped to their feet. Wayne stood at the back, half-awake, shirt sticking to his chest. He hadn’t slept since that nightmare, since the healer’s visit, since Darius had stormed out of his room. Now the Alpha’s voice sounded different—colder.Darius’s eyes found him. “Wayne. Front.”Wayne dragged himself forward, chest tight. He stopped a few feet away, avoiding Darius’s stare.“We’re training with intent today,” Darius said. “No pulling punches. You bleed, you learn.”A few of the men smirked. They knew this meant someone would end up flat on their back. Probably him.“Pair him with Kellan,” Darius said, jerking his chin toward one of the bigger wolves.Kellan grinned, flexing his arms. “Alpha, you sure you

The sun had barely risen when Darius called for the healer.Word spread fast across the pack—an Alpha requesting a soul healer was rare, almost unheard of. Wolves whispered as Elaris’s carriage rolled through the gates with the old wood creaking under morning light. She looked nothing like the healers Wayne had seen before. No robe, no staff, just long silver hair braided over one shoulder and eyes so pale they almost glowed. Darius waited for her in the courtyard, arms folded, expression hard but restless. Wayne silently stood beside him, wondering why his heart was beating so fast.Elaris stepped forward, gaze flicking between them, and her calm aura filled the space before she even spoke.“So,” she said softly, “this is the wolf that stirs the air.”Wayne frowned. “I’m not sure what that means.”“You will.” Her tone held no threat, only certainty. “May I?”Darius gave a short nod. “Do what you must.”Elaris moved closer, her bare feet silent on the stone. She stopped in front of
