(Alexander's POV)

Being inside prison changes a man.

It strips you down, peeling away every mask you’ve ever worn until you are left raw. The quiet is never truly quiet because it whispers doubts, screams terror, and reminds you every second what you have lost. Days crawled like years, and nights were even worse. The four walls pressed in, as if they wanted to choke me.

The newspaper outside regarded me as corrupt. Old friends distanced themselves from me. My enemies rejoiced over my fall. And there I sat, behind bars, with the weight of crimes I did not commit.

Yet even in the darkened corner, there was one light that refused to flicker out which was Natalie.

Her visits were the only times I remembered to breathe. She would sit on the other side of the glass wall, her eyes blazing with determination, her hand on the cold surface.

"I believe in you," she said one day, her voice strong though her hands trembled. "And I'll prove it to the world."

I wanted to crack. I wanted to weep. But

(Alexander's POV)The moment James Hayes’ words hit the air, it seemed like the ground beneath my feet shifted. Brother. He had referred to himself as my brother and yet all my instincts told me to distrust him, the resemblance I had ignored before suddenly became impossible to ignore. His eyes are so calculating, so sharp, mirrored my own. His stance, with his secrets weighing like armor, how his voice demanded authority without raising his tone and voice, it was hauntingly familiar. And now that I knew the truth, I saw him not just as an intruder, but as blood. The revelation poisoned the air between us, thick and suffocating. My brother. Working for Jacob. Betrayed by him. And now standing in my living room, offering a key to destroy the same man who had tried to erase me.Natalie's hand brushed against mine and held me steady, but my brain spun with a thousand unspoken questions.I finally broke the silence. "You should have told me.He looked at my eyes without blinking. "Would y

(Natalie’s POV)The man's voice had such gravity that even my questions were silenced. He was seated across from us, gripping his hands tightly, his eyes flickering from Alexander to me as if deliberating how much of the truth he was to reveal."My name is James Hayes," he finally stated, voice low, almost burdened. "And I worked for Jacob."The words hit like a gunshot. But the shock wasn’t only because he had once stood at Jacob’s side. It was because of what he said next, eyes locked onto Alexander."And I am your brother."My chest tightened. My heart stumbled. Alexander's face went blank, as if the ground underneath him had suddenly cracked.A man who had served Jacob. A man with claims to blood ties to Alexander. It seemed impossible, yet his voice was low, shaking at the edges forced me to stop.He took a slow step forward, jaw rigid, voice sharp. "Why did you come here?"James gasped shallowly. "Because Jacob betrayed me. I was faithful to him for over twenty years. I kept sec

(Alexander's POV)The warehouse still reeked of dust and iron as the police took Victor away. His curses echoed out long after he was gone, but I hardly noticed. My attention was on Natalie, her shaking hand still grasped in mine, her recorder tight in the other. She had saved me.If she had not followed me, if she had not laid her counter-trap, tonight would have ended differently. I could have been pulled into the shadows and erased, just another victim of Jacob's greed. But instead, I was here, bruised but alive. However, victory was fragile because while Victor was in chains, Jacob had slipped away. Two days later, the cracks started to show. The newspapers painted Victor as a fallen heir, embroiled in conspiracy and crime. The recordings Natalie had obtained circulated like wildfire through the legal community, tightening the noose around his allies. Those who had whispered his name in fear before now spat it in derision. But Jacob’s name never appeared in print. It was as if he

  • Bound By The CEO's Contract    CHAPTER SEVENTY FOUR

(Natalie's POV)The eleven o'clock chime sounded, and stillness in the house pressed down upon me more heavily than ever. Alexander had left an hour before, marching straight into the trap his enemies had been preparing for him. I had begged him not to go alone, but he was too obstinate, too protective. He thought keeping me away from harm was the same as protecting me from harm. He did not understand that the idea of staying at home, doing nothing, was more dangerous to me than walking into fire.I couldn't remain stationary. My fingers shook as I reviewed the evidence yet again: the ledger, the photos, the notes we had pieced back together from my father's old company. I had hidden them away safely, but the documents were not warriors and tonight was not about documents. Tonight was about survival.I grabbed my coat and slipped the small recorder into my pocket. And then, without another moment's consideration, I left the house. The roads felt even colder than they typically did as

  • Bound By The CEO's Contract    CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE

(Alexander's POV)Days after evidence had been found at Natalie's father's old company passed like stretching shadows. There seemed to be danger every minute. I even felt like someone was watching me even when the streets seemed emptied. The silent nights were no longer peaceful, it was waiting.Natalie and I kept the ledger and photos in my study, hidden behind floorboards only I knew how to access. They were more than paper now. They were on fire. Evidence that could burn Jacob, Victor, and everyone associated with them. But fire always draws those who fear being consumed.I received a message on the third. It had not come by phone or even e-mail but by an envelope left at my office door while I wasn't there. The paper was thick and the handwriting was sharp. My name was written in black ink like a scar.Inside, one line:"Stop digging or the woman you fondly love will pay the price."No signature but I didn't need one. The threat carried Jacob's stench all over it.I drove home wit

  • Bound By The CEO's Contract    CHAPTER SEVENTY TWO

(Natalie's POV)The next day after my dad's confession felt heavier than any day I had ever known. The mood in the house seemed weighed down with secrets that would not leave, and silence pressed upon every room. My dad barely touched his breakfast meal, his eyes were distant, as if he remained trapped in the memories of debts, shame, and Jacob's shadow. But Alexander was not like that. He was restless, resolute, like a warrior preparing for war. His eyes did not linger on the past, they looked for a path forward. And I knew, deep within me, that I must follow him.By noon, we were in the vehicle, headed to the empty offices of my father's old company. The building was on the other side of town, wedged between factories and warehouses that had been quiet for years. The building seemed abandoned, but to us, it was a minefield of questions.I gripped Alexander's hand as we stopped before the locked gate. "You really think there is something here?" I whispered. He glared at me, his teeth
