As I walked into Jalen's house I was immediately struck by the strong smell of cinnamon. It was almost overpowering and I couldn't help but feel a little intimidated I looked around at the rustic furnishings and decor.

Jaden's mum stood in the doorway eyeing me with suspicion and distaste. She didn't say a word but the hostility in her gaze was palpable.

I tried to ignore the feeling of unease that washed over me as I followed her upstairs. She was not happy about my presence and I felt like an outsider. On our way upstairs she stopped and turned to face me.

"Does Jalen truly work for you?"

I hesitated for a moment not wanting to reveal too much but ultimately I nodded.

"What exactly does he do for you?"

"It's not in my place to tell you that," I said.

The disappointment on her face was clear and we went upstairs. The house was old but surprisingly beautiful. She opened the door to a dimly lit bedroom, the blinds are drawn to block out the harsh sun.
