KAELAN'S POV

I scribbled through the files in front of me, trying to block out Rio's incessant rambling. Ever since he'd returned from the meeting, he hadn't allowed me to hear the end of it.

"You didn't tell me our Luna was such a fierce one. The fire in her eyes when she questioned Delta Aston; I thought he would burn to a crisp," he chuckled.

"Damn. Her face looked so calm, but she's brimming with so much fire that even you didn't get spared," he laughed, earning a stink eye from me.

"What do you mean, 'I didn't get spared'?" I asked, narrowing my gaze.

"You felt it too, didn't you? It was obvious you were trying to catch her off-guard, but she didn't let her guard down at all. She twisted the whole thing. Damn, I like her!" he commented, slamming his hand on my desk for effect.

"Just leave, Rio. I'm sure you have work on your own desk. Go sort it out; you're disturbing my peace," I hissed.

"You're such a killjoy," he scowled.

My phone chimed with a notification from inside my draw

SERAPHINA'S POV"Gosh, I hate Kaelan so much. Nothing irks me more than his damn ego," I hissed the moment I was alone in my room."Is anyone there?" I called out."Yes, Your Majesty. Do you require assistance?" A young maid I didn't recognize entered, dipping into a curtsy.I arched a brow. "Who are you?""I am Brienne, Your Majesty. The Grand Empress sent me to attend you." Her voice was meek, her eyes downcast. The Grand Empress? My confusion sharpened into suspicion. I hadn't seen or spoken to the woman since that disastrous dinner."Why would she send you? I have a full staff. Where is Ivanna?""Ivanna has been reassigned to the lower quarters, Your Majesty. The Grand Empress felt my service would be more... appropriate.""Reassigned? On whose authority? I did not request a change." My tone turned icy. "You will do me a favor. Return to the Grand Empress, convey my appreciation for her… consideration, but inform her it is unnecessary. I want Ivanna reinstated immediately. You are

As I stepped into the hall, the sheer number of eyes that turned to meet mine was staggering.I have been the center of attraction more than I can count, mainly as my father's sole heir. But to have the focused, assessing gaze of fourteen ruling Lunas upon me, as their host, was an entirely new kind of pressure.I raised my chin, squaring my shoulders as I walked to the empty chair at the center of the crescent table. I met the eyes of each woman I passed, refusing to blink. It was a strategic ploy I’d learned young: masking fear. Showing your inner thoughts was a fatal weakness. The Lunas offered bows of respect. I returned a slight, dignified nod of my own. A cold, assessing air radiated from their collective stare, but I ignored it, gingerly taking my seat.“You may be seated,” I said, offering a small, composed smile. “My apologies for keeping you waiting,” I added, though I was precisely on time.“Not at all, Your Majesty. It is an honor to see your face again since the marriage

  • Bound To The Alpha I Rejected    CHAPTER NINETEEN

SERAPHINA'S POVDid I really rile Kaelan up so much that he hadn’t come home for more than a day? I hadn’t heard from him since our last outburst, and Isolde confirmed he wasn’t in the castle.Maybe I’d said too much. Had I?But then… had his family really banished him? Just because of my rejection? What I didn’t fully understand was why it went that far. I knew it would affect his standing, his claim to the throne. Yes. But was our betrothal so sacred, so politically vital, that it warranted exiling their own son and heir? Or was there something else—something darker, that I had triggered? My train of thought was shattered by a knock at the door.“Who is it?”“It’s Isolde. The Beta seeks your audience, My Lady."The Beta? That's new.“I’ll be out in a few minutes,” I replied, my mind racing as I grabbed the nearest suitable outfit.Gosh, now I need to wear a bra. Bras are the worst. After putting myself together, I was directed to a sunlit lounge. Beta Rio was indeed waiting, seated

I clutched the glass in my hand so hard the crystal quivered. But that was the least of my concerns as I stared absently at the women trying desperately to hold my attention.I’d driven to this club in a fury after the conversation with Seraphina. Rio, who’d seen me take off at an insane speed, had followed. He was now sitting across from me, trying to decipher my black mood. He’d even suggested bringing in company to lighten it, but all they did was grate on my nerves.Seraphina called me a coward.A dark chuckle escaped me, though my insides were a furnace. I hated remembering the past so much that it ached when I did. But there was nothing much I could do when the main cause of my brutal past was right in my house."Honestly, I thought everything would get more fun, and you know, you’d be more happy, now that you’re married," Rio shrugged after looking at me for minutes and noting my expression."Did a fairy godmother whisper to you that marriage is all rosy? Marriage is crap," I

Isolde gulped, her face contorting with shame, and slowly sank to her knees. She met my eyes, and I felt the heat of her hatred radiating toward me.She looked once more at Kaelan, whose gaze dared her to challenge him.As she crouched and brought her mouth closer to the floor, the Empress sprang up again. "Your Majesty, please, stop this! This is madness!"Kaelan chuckled darkly. "Have I ever acted sane to you? Let your daughter refuse my order. Then you'll see how truly insane I can be."The Empress fell silent, her chest heaving with impotent rage.Seeing no rescue, Isolde closed her eyes, a tear escaping as the tip of her tongue touched the polished stone. She sprang up the moment she did it and fled, presumably to the kitchens.A strange, hollow feeling settled in my stomach. I disliked Isolde, and part of me found a dark justice in her humiliation, but another part—a small, inconvenient part, pitted her."I'm done here," Kaelan stated, pushing back his chair. The Empress rose as

"Prodigal Luna? Excuse me?" I asked, unable to stop myself. I could feel Kaelan's eyes boring into my skin, a silent warning, but the insult had already lit a short fuse in my chest. She cleared her throat, before plastering on a smile so false it was almost insulting. "Pardon my manners, Your Majesties. Please, let's proceed to the table," she said, motioning to a vast dining hall.We settled in, and she immediately engaged Kaelan in talk of pack trade and border patrols, her words carefully sculpted to exclude me. I was furniture. Then, a shriek came from the west wing, and I turned to see someone I never expected.Isolde? What was she doing here? A cold trickle of foreboding dripped down my spine."Oh my Gosh, Your Majesty! I didn't know you were here!" she gushed, fluttering to where we sat. "Why didn't you tell me, Mum?" she asked, facing the Empress."Mum?" I blurted without meaning to. The Grand Empress is Isolde’s mother?"Yes. Mum," the Empress said, her smile now dripping wi
