FINNIAN

The morning came faster than I expected. The sound of birds was the first thing that tore through the quiet. Their sharp chirps echoed over the forest, waking everyone one after another.

I pushed myself up, brushing off the sand and crushed leaves clinging to my body. My back ached from the hard ground, but I didn’t complain. Pain was a companion I’d long gotten used to.

Just as I reached for my cloak, something slammed inside my chest.

My breath caught.

A sudden, hard throb ran through me like claws digging straight into my heart.

I gasped, my vision dimmed for a second, and then I stumbled back, coughing until my throat burned.

“Prince!” one of the warriors yelled, running to me.

The others followed instantly, alarm spreading through them like wildfire.

“What’s happening, Prince?” another asked, gripping my arm to keep me steady.

Daze and Jared rushed to me. Jared shoved a wooden jug into my hand. I drank fast, too fast, the water running down my throat like I hadn’t tasted

ISOLDEThe heavy door shut behind me with a deep thud. I dragged the end of my honey-gold royal gown across the marble floor, my heart pounding as I lifted my chin. Thank the goddess, he was alone. No wives. No Luna draped across his lap.Rowan didn’t even look up. His hand moved steadily over the scroll on his desk, his jaw tight, his eyes locked on the paper like it was more important than air itself. The silence stretched between us, heavy and suffocating, but I didn’t rush to break it.Instead, I watched him.His face was still that cruelly beautiful one I had married, it was sharp, unreadable, carved by control. His hair looked darker now, blacker than night, and his lips... goddess, those lips still carried that silent authority that once made my knees weak. I hated myself for still noticing that for still wanting him.Because he hadn’t even tried to kiss me in a week. Not since I defended myself from his precious Luna’s jealousy. When he finally spoke, his voice was low and edg

ISOLDEI didn’t even spend the second day in the cell before Rowan ordered them to release me. I thought I’d see Finnian after that, but it’s been three days now and nothing.I’ve asked Rowan where he sent him, but he won’t answer me. Neither would the guards. It was as if he had warned everyone not to say a single word.Where could Finnian have gone that he couldn’t tell me himself? Was it his choice to leave… or did Rowan send him on the errand?Elsa hadn’t been happy either. She'd been wandering around the palace pretending not to care, but I knew she was looking for Daze. She might deny it, but I can see it in her eyes, she already loved him. They were fated mates after all.“You’ll know where they went,” Elsa said, turning to look at Arianna, who bowed quickly. Of course she would, she was Finnian’s maid.Arianna shook her head before Elsa could even finish. “I don’t know where they went.”I frowned.“You’re lying,” Elsa said through gritted teeth. “You know. You don’t want to te

FINNIANThe table was filled with a variety of dishes: roasted venison, spiced chicken, wolf stew, grilled fish glazed in honey, ripe berries, pears, apples, figs, and sliced melons. The scent was maddening, rich enough to make my stomach twist with hunger before I even took a bite.I didn’t wait. I sat down and started eating, without a care for manners or stares.“Your men will be well taken care of,” the Alpha said with a polite smile.I nodded, swallowing hard and reaching for more meat, but I could already feel the sharp gaze burning into my skin again. His daughter’s.“Classara, you’re not eating?” her father asked, pulling her attention away from me.She blinked and smiled. “Oh, no. I am.”She looked down at her plate filled with roasted pheasant, grilled carrots, and fruit slices, and she shoved a forkful into her mouth. “See? I’m eating,” she said through the bite, still watching me.I shrugged, pretending not to notice, and turned back to my food. After a few minutes of sile

FINNIANTwo massive wolves burst out of the thick bush. Their roars tore through the air, howls echoing together like thunder. The wind they summoned lifted leaves, dust, and dirt, blinding our eyes, making our horses stagger and neigh.“Cover your eyes! Cover your eyes!” I yelled, my voice slicing through the chaos. My men obeyed instantly. When the wind finally died down, I blinked through the dust, locking eyes with the two wolves standing before us. Same height. Same thick gray fur. Same blood-red stare. They had to be twins.Jared leaped off his horse before I could speak. “I’ll take them down, Prince. They’re nothing, they are just making empty noises.”I didn’t stop him. I wouldn’t waste thirty warriors on two pathetic rogues. Let him show me what he’d learned. The wolves moved back in perfect rhythm, then lunged at Jared at the same time. The symmetry in their attack made me raise a brow. Even their movements were identical.Jared swung his sword, metal meeting fur and flesh.

FINNIAN The air outside Rowan’s chamber still clung to me when I got to my building. My head felt heavy, not from the long talk we’d had, but from the shock in his eyes when I agreed to take on his deadly mission without complaining anymore. He didn't expect to go easily. But I did. Because danger never scared me. What scared me was the thought of staying and being broken.Eve and Arianna had already packed all my things... the armor, my sword, extra blades, and the few belongings I had left.“I’m ready to eat now,” I said as I removed my gloves. “Arianna, bring my food.”She bowed quickly and stopped whatever she was pretending to do. Eve, on the other hand, had gone to inform my men that we would leave soon.Minutes later, Arianna returned with a wooden tray. She placed it on the table before me, her head bowed but her eyes were sneaking up to study my face. The smell hit first, spiced roast meat, warm bread, a bowl of thick stew, and a cup of strong ale. My stomach grumbled loud e
