Avery’s Point of View
After that night, my life grew from bad to worse. I've lost count of times I cried myself to sleep or the number of times I almost bled to death.
“Argh!!” A soul wrenching scream suddenly split out of my mouth as I dropped the glass I was holding and fell to the floor in a heap.
My loins was on fire, I cried out painfully, the pain spreading through every veins in my body and I instantly knew that Julian was with Sophia again.
This was the pain he was talking about, the reason he did not let me accept the rejection. He tortured me on a daily basis, I was in constant pains because of him. He knew I was going to be in pains if he was with another woman aside from me.
What have I done to deserve this?! Other werewolves are happy with their mates, but why is mine different?!
The pain gradually subside after what felt like hours, and I weakly dragged myself from the ground. I pack the pieces of the broken cup and was about to leave the kitchen when Sophia walked in.
Immediately her eyes sighted me, she smirked as she said, “Bitch, how does it feel? How does it feel to know that your mate is busy getting pleasure from me while you, his supposed mate is wallowing in pain?”
“My, my, Avery,” Sophia’s voice was a soft, mocking coo as she stepped closer. “Does it hurt? Knowing he’s with me? That he only looks at you with disgust while he can’t stay away from me?” Her smile was small, almost sweet, her tone dripping with false sympathy. “Some people just aren’t worthy of a mate, you know? And we both know that’s you.”
I wasn't going to let her get to me, I simply ignored her and made to step out through the door, when she roughly shoved me backwards, because I could make out what was happening, she slapped me across the face.
“When I ask a question, you answer, bitch!!” She sneered as she eyed me mockingly. Just then footsteps sounded down the hallway, Sophia smirked and dragged me up.
I stared at her confusedly, then she grabbed a knife, cut herself deeply and fell on the floor. I gasped loudly and before I could think of a way out.
Julian walked through the kitchen door and Sophia burst into tears at the sight of him, that was when everything dawned at me….. She set me up.
Before I could explain, Julian moved in close to me and gripped my neck tightly and slammed me hard against the wall, I felt air knocked out of my lungs.
This isn’t a mate, I thought, panic clawing up my throat as he held me there. He’s a monster… And I can't believe that I was paired with him.
I couldn't breath, I dug my nails into his arms but he didn't fret, just when I thought it was over, he dropped me roughly to the floor.
I coughed violently as I held my neck, and as if he hasn't punished me enough for a crime I knew nothing of, he ordered the guards to take me to the dungeon.
“Give her 120 lashes of the silver whip, no food nor water for 3 days”, he coldly ordered as he stared at me with disgust. I was tired of begging, too weak to do anything as I was dragged away to the dungeon.
The air in the dungeon was thick, damp, and rank with the scent of mildew and stale blood. I could feel it settling in my lungs, suffocating, mixing with the metallic tang of fear that clawed its way up my throat.
I was forced to my kneels and water was poured all over me, two guards stood over me, each holding a silver whip.
The first lash landed on my back and I could feel fire burning on the mark left by the whip. My whole body system lost coordination. I felt all the sickness in the world coursing through my veins. Another lash landed on my back when I still had no hope of recovering from the first.
1…. 2….. 3…….. 4……
I counted the lashes silently, finding strength in the rhythm.
It kept on going, my skin burning as each lash met with my back but I refused to show any sign of weakness. I refused to cry as I forced back the tears in. I would not give them the satisfaction of seeing me break.
As each lash met with my back, I swore to make Julian and Sophia pay.
They would pay for every single blood and tears that I shed. I wasn't going to die now. Never!!! I'll be alive and watch them kneel and beg for death, but they won't get it. Death would be too easy for them.
“Jeezzz! How can someone be flogged with a silver whip and shows no reaction?” I heard one of the guards wondered.
When the guards finally released me, I slumped forward, the pain a deep, throbbing ache that spread through every limb. They left me in the cell, and I crawled into a corner, my back screaming with each movement. I let myself breathe, let the anger settle, and pushed back the tears. This wasn’t the end. I’d make sure of that.
I need to leave.
Hours later—or what felt like hours—a guard approached. “The alpha wants you in his study.” His words were cold, and I could feel the malice in his gaze as he dragged me out of the cell.
I was dragged to his room, immediately his eyes landed on me, I saw them darken with lust.
Beast. I sneered as I stared at him with contempt.
“Strip,” Julian ordered, his voice low and full of twisted amusement, eyes raking over me like I was nothing.
Wait… What?!
“Don't make me repeat myself slave! Strip!!” He growled in warning. When I hesitated, his lips curled into a cruel smile.
“Oh! You want it the hard way right?! You’re nothing more than a disobedient pet, Avery. Maybe I need to remind you who’s in charge.” He sneered as he stepped closer to me, I couldn’t let this monster touch me. My hand slipped into my pocket, fingers curling around the syringe I’d hidden earlier. Without hesitation, I drove it into his neck, injecting the Wolfsbane.
Julian stumbled back in shock as he held his neck. His eyes widened in shock, his arrogance fading as he slumped to the floor. “What… did you do…?”
“Wolfsbane, not just any wolfsbane but the Violet Monkshood Wolfsbane”, I replied as it was now my turn to smirk.
His eyes widened in shock but he was too weak to do anything.
“I would rather die than have a shame of a wolf like you touch me!” I sneered. “Now, I'll finish what you started”, Understanding what I wanted to do, he could only watch as the Wolfsbane has completely weakened both him and his wolf.
“I, Avery Smith, accept the rejection of Julian Styles, Alpha of Krypta Clan as his mate and Luna”
The words left my lips with a fierce finality, and as they hung in the air, a shiver ran down my spine. It was as if an invisible thread that had bound me to him snapped in a sudden, icy release. I could feel the bond dissolve, a rush of relief flooding my chest, mingled with an ache I hadn't expected. The weight I’d carried was gone, and in its place was a strange, hollow lightness. I was free.
Just then, a painful howl tore through his lips, Julian’s howl of agony filled the room, raw and fractured, as he thrashed weakly on the floor, trying in vain to reach for me. I could hear footsteps rushing down the hall, growing louder with every second. With one last look at the pitiful figure on the floor, I turned and sprinted toward the window. I jumped out not minding it's height from the ground.
Then I ran, I ran with everything in me and never looked back.
Avery's Point of View I ran, each step pounding against the earth beneath me as my heart thudded wildly in my chest. The night air bit at my skin, icy and sharp, and each breath burned as I pushed myself forward. The distant howl of a wolf rose from somewhere behind me, and fear clawed at my insides. But I didn’t stop. I couldn’t.The forest opened up before me, shadows twisting in the moonlight as branches snagged at my clothes and scratched my skin. But I welcomed the sting; it was a reminder that I was finally free. I chanced one last look over my shoulder, and in that fleeting moment, felt a flicker of hope. I would keep running, no matter how far, no matter how long—anything was better than being a prisoner in Julian’s pack.I had managed to leave the pack's territory and was running towards the borders when I suddenly looked over my shoulder. The dark shapes of the warriors closing in sent a shiver down my spine.“There she is!!” One of the pack warriors shouted, with my life v
Kaiden’s Point of View Standing behind my desk in the study and going through the pack's report. Though my body was here, my mind clearly wasn't, as finding my mate was the only thought that clouded my mind.Just as I was scanning through the files, Slade became restless and agitated all of a sudden, I could feel him pacing round my head and it was giving me a headache.Even though Slade is very active at night, he has never been this agitated before and that was giving me great concern.“Slade, what's wrong?” I asked as I momentarily abandoned the files. I can attend to them later.“I don't know but I feel that something or someone is coming. But I can't tell what it is,” he replied as he continued pacing, this time around, more fierce that I had to hold onto the nearest wall for support.“Calm down buddy, are you planning to kill me?” I cussed as I held onto my throbbing head.“Sorry but we need to go out there, Kaiden. I have a feeling that we're both going to regret it, if we don
Kaiden's Point of View“What's wrong with mate?” Did we scare her that much?” Slade asked with worry laced in his voice, already feeling dejected.I sighed as I stared at her lean figure, and my eyes hardened immediately I set eyes on the bruises on her body. I felt like destroying something.I could feel my body trembling, but I was forced to control myself due to the fact that I was holding my mate between my hands……. After all these years.“Let’s mark mate!” Slade demanded impatiently.“Slade! Keep your wolf urges down. How can you think of marking her in this state?” I snapped, my teeth gritting together.“But we’ve waited so long for her. Now that we’ve found her, what are we waiting for?” His voice strained as he fought to gain control, but I pushed him back, using every ounce of my will to hold him at bay.“I understand your frustration, Slade. I bear this curse too. Our mate is currently in a bad state, if we attempt to mark her now that she's in this shape, she's bound to die
Kaiden's Point of View“Caspian, there's someone important that you need to meet,” I said immediately the mind link connected.“How important is this person that you had to wake me up in the middle of the night, Kaiden?” I could already picture the dissatisfied look on his face, he was obviously with his mate but who cares? I just found mine tonight, so I should be the impatient one here.“You only have ten minutes to get here, Caspian,” I said with an eye roll, the only person I’m a little bit free with is my Beta, Caspain.“Alright Alpha, expect me in the next ten minutes, he replied and I disconnected the mind link.I sat down beside her and continued staring at her, she has been through a lot and I will make sure to protect her with my life. She deserves happiness and that I would give to her.I couldn’t help but reach out, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. The warmth of her skin reassured me, a reminder that she was here, with me, but the lack of movement was unsettli
Kaiden's Point of View“Your Highness, she’s awake.”Lewis’s voice broke through the chaos of the pack’s training field. The words slammed into me, and for a moment, I felt as though the ground beneath me had disappeared. My body froze, but my mind exploded with emotions—excitement, hope, and a desperate, gnawing need to see her.But another feeling was stronger.Fear.It clawed at my chest, sharp and unrelenting. Would she hate me? Reject me? Slade growled low in my mind, urging me forward. His voice was a mixture of impatience and longing, like a caged beast desperate for release.“Go!” he barked. With his speed coursing through me, I was standing in front of my bedroom door within seconds. My hand hovered over the knob, trembling slightly as I took a deep breath. Even from the other side of the door, I could feel her presence—fragile, yet powerful. The air around me seemed thicker, almost electric.I stepped inside, and there she was.Sitting upright on the bed, her small frame loo
Kaiden's Point of ViewMy eyes turned bloodshot immediately after he said that. I felt my blood boil, I turned sharply to him and said “What did you just say?”“I meant no harm Alpha, but I feel like that’s the best decision right now”, he replied with a shaking voice.“And what gave you the right to decide for me!!” I roared as I held him up by the mate. Though he’s my Beta and close friend, there were limits to it.“How dare you suggest separating me from my mate!” Slade’s authority infused my voice, and Caspian winced under the weight of the Alpha command.“I’m sorry, Alpha. That’s not my intention,” he stammered.“Then what is your intention?” I demanded, my voice low but no less menacing.“She fears you, Kaiden. If you don’t step back, you’ll lose her completely.,” He stated, “Give her space. Let her see you’re not the monster she fears.”With steady breaths, I released, finally getting his point but the thought of being apart from my mate was driving me nuts.“Once Lewis finishe
Julian's Point of View “You all are just a bunch of useless fools!” I growled as I smashed my cup to the floor. “You call yourselves the pack’s best scouts and trackers, yet you can’t find a wounded and almost lifeless Omega!!” I roared as anger consumed me. “We are so sorry Alpha, but she vanished into the Silver Abyss, we couldn’t follow her there without risking our lives”, their leader, Scott responded. “Then so be it!! If your heads are the price for me to get Avery back here in the pack, then it’s worth it” I declared. “But…..”, I interrupted him with a cold glare. “No buts, my words are final, gather your men and find her, don’t come back here without her”, I stated with a note of finality. “Yes, Alpha, let’s go,” Scott said to his men before they left my office. The moment the door clicked shut, I collapsed to the floor, clutching my chest as an unbearable pain surged through me. My breaths came in sharp gasps, the ache refusing to subside. Why does it hurt this much? I’
Julian's Point of View "My decisions are none of your business. You stay out of my affairs,” I said coldly, my voice sharp enough to cut glass. Sophia’s eyes widened in disbelief, but the fury in them didn’t waver. “*None of my business*? I’m your Luna! I’m going to be the mother of your future pups! Why are you still going after that useless Avery? She’s of no use to you, Julian! That’s why you rejected her and chose me over her,” she spat, her tone shrill and accusatory. The room seemed to grow colder. Her words ignited something in me—a spark that erupted into a roaring inferno. My fists clenched, and my vision blurred with rage. “Chose you?” I growled, my voice low and dangerous as I took a menacing step toward her. “Do you think I chose you?” Sophia flinched but tried to hold her ground. “Yes, you did! You rejected Avery because she’s weak! I’m the one who—” Before she could finish, I lunged forward, my hand wrapping around her throat in a vice-like grip. Her eyes went
Avery’s Point Of ViewThe weight of exhaustion pressed down on me, my mind foggy and clouded as I settled into Kaiden's bed. I tried to push the worry from my mind, but the darkness in my heart refused to let me rest. I curled up on his side of the bed, inhaling deeply, hoping to feel some sense of peace in his absence. His scent… earthy, comforting, undeniably him, filled my senses, and for a moment, I allowed myself to be lost in it.But the moment of solace was fleeting. My eyes fluttered shut, and before I knew it, I was drifting away. The world around me twisted, fading, until everything seemed to blur together, and the dark void swallowed me whole. I found myself standing in an open field, the wind biting at my skin. The night sky above was suffocating, filled with dark clouds swirling with angry energy. The air crackled, heavy with tension, as if something… someone, was about to come.My heart pounded in my chest, and my stomach churned with a sense of dread that I couldn’t sh
Avery’s Point Of ViewThe cool night air brushed against my skin as I stood just outside the house, staring into the dark abyss of the forest. The trees loomed tall and silent, their branches swaying with the wind. I could almost hear them whispering secrets in the night, the rustle of leaves and the occasional distant howl from creatures roaming the shadows. But none of that registered in my mind. My thoughts were a chaotic swirl of uncertainty, fear, and anticipation.Kaiden still hadn’t come back.I’d been waiting for what felt like hours, pacing through the quiet halls of the house, trying to keep myself occupied with anything other than the growing knot in my stomach. He’d said it wouldn’t take long. He promised me it wouldn’t. So why was it taking so long? Why hadn’t he come back yet? What was keeping him?“What's keeping him?” I muttered to myself, barely louder than a whisper, as the weight of my thoughts pressed down on me like an invisible force.I looked up at the moon, its
Maya’s Point Of ViewThe words hit me like a slap. The mist around us seemed to freeze in place. I just stared at Dal, blinking, my breath hitching in my throat as I tried to make sense of what I had just heard.A ball. Next week. The Alpha revealing his Luna. To the entire Aethoria. My mind reeled, staggering under the weight of it.Wait… Wait, wait, wait.Kaden was back. Kaden, the man I had loved with every breath in my body. The man whose absence had carved a hollowed-out ache inside my chest so deep it sometimes felt like I wouldn’t survive it. The man whose name had been the only thing keeping me tethered to the ground during the darkest nights. And now… Now he was back, and his first act was to announce his Luna? Not just to the pack… no, that would have been bad enough, but to the whole of Aethoria? The entire kingdom?"How?" I whispered hoarsely, almost to myself. "How is that possible?"The air grew heavy, pressing down on me until it felt like I was drowning in it. I swayed
Maya’s Point Of ViewThe rain was tapping against my windowpane, a soft, persistent rhythm that filled the heavy silence of my room. The dim light from the bedside lamp cast a muted golden glow across the room, stretching long shadows along the walls. I sat there on the edge of my bed, my arms wrapped tightly around my knees, staring blankly at the floor.I should've been sleeping. I should've at least tried to rest. But Kaiden’s face haunted my mind, those dark, emerald green eyes, the set of his jaw, the way he looked at me like I was the only person in the world that mattered. Damn him. Damn him for getting under my skin, for making me feel this way.I squeezed my eyes shut, willing the memories away, but it was no use. Every breath I took, every beat of my heart seemed to echo his name. A sharp knock shattered the stillness. I flinched violently, my heart leaping into my throat. My head snapped toward the door. I sat frozen for a second, staring at it as if it might burst open at
Kaiden’s Point Of ViewThe silence after Dalton’s humiliation still clung to the air like smoke. I remained standing at the foot of the throne, arms loosely at my sides, gaze sweeping over the Elders seated before me.None dared speak first.Good.I allowed the silence to stretch, to remind them all who commanded this room—not just by title, but by right. When I finally moved, it was with the slow, deliberate grace of a predator who had already decided the outcome of the hunt."Now," I said, voice low, "let us proceed."Lucia, the eldest among them, cleared her throat lightly. "Your Highness," she began cautiously, "regarding the Luna... have you considered the arrangements for her presentation?"A few Elders nodded eagerly, desperate to move away from the tension Dalton had dragged in. Elder Roman spoke next, voice slightly strained. "It is customary, Your Highness, that the Luna be presented with all honor and grandeur befitting her station.""And perhaps," Elder Winona added quickl
CHAPTER NINETY-TWOKaiden’s Point Of ViewThe weight of the Elders' eyes pressed in like a tide, steady and ancient. Their bows lingered, but as I gave a subtle nod of acknowledgment, they slowly straightened, murmuring among themselves.“Your Highness… truly,” Elder Varo said, his voice a rasp of disbelief and reverence. “After all this time…”“You grace us,” another added, placing a palm against his chest. “The Pack is honored by your presence once more.”I sat atop the throne, shrouded in shadow, one leg crossed over the other, forearms resting lightly on the golden arms of the seat. My presence demanded silence and they gave it, trembling beneath the weight of it.Only once the final syllable of their greeting faded into the air did I speak, voice low but steady, each word dipped in command.“You may rise.”One by one, they shuffled to their designated seats in the stone semicircle, robes billowing behind them like fading shadows. Their movements were precise, dignified but I coul
Kaiden’s Point Of ViewI stepped onto the main path of the pack and immediately felt the shift in atmosphere. The air buzzed not from power, not even from anticipation, but from the sheer awareness of my presence.Eyes turned. Whispers started. The moment I passed by the warrior training field, every single one of them halted mid-motion. The clang of swords stopped. Feet paused mid-stride. Heads turned. “Your Highness,” a young she-wolf stammered, dropping into a bow. The others followed suit, some in shock, others in stiff, respectful awe.I gave them a short nod, acknowledging their greetings, and continued towards the Pack Hall. But none of them moved until I was already halfway down the path.Even in my absence, the pack was in perfect shape… buildings maintained, patrols running in rhythm, no air of disarray or neglect. I knew who to credit, even if my pride didn’t want to admit it. Caspian. He’d held it down like the true beta he was. Efficient, strict, and downright obsessive a
Avery’s Point Of View“Time they see that you’re alive.”I stared at him, my breath catching in my throat. “You’re not a secret. You’re not hidden. You’re mine, Avery. And it’s time the whole world sees that.” My fingers trembled in his grasp, and for a long second, I just blinked at him, the words echoing in my ears like a drumbeat.“Kaiden…” I whispered, my voice barely there. “And also,” he added, his voice dropping into something deeper, something almost primal, “it’s time they know you’re my mate. My Luna.”I felt the world pause. My chest tightened, lips parting in a small gasp as the full weight of his words slammed into me.“Your… Luna?” I echoed, wide-eyed. He nodded slowly, his thumb brushing over the back of my hand. “It’s not just about going back. It’s about announcing it. All of it. You. Me. Everything they never expected.”I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. Not just alive. Not just returned. But standing at his side as his equal. As the Luna of the pack th
Avery’s Point Of ViewI exhaled slowly, brushing my fingers along his collarbone, feeling the steady thrum of his pulse beneath my touch. His skin was warm, like sunbaked stone, and his body radiated heat even through the sliver of space between us.“I was having a peaceful moment,” I whispered. “And now you’re having me.” He caught my wrist and kissed the inside, slowly. “You were humming. Happy. I like you like this.”“I like me like this.”“I love you like this,” he murmured into my skin. The words hit harder than I expected. I blinked up at him, lips parting. He smiled, soft but wicked. “Don’t go all misty-eyed on me, Snowy.”“I’m not misty-eyed. I’m just…”“Falling for me harder?” he teased, nudging my nose with his. “Already done. You were asking to be kissed.”“Was I?” His voice dropped, dark and dangerous. “You always are.” I laughed and smacked his chest, but it was hopeless. My heart was a mess of fireflies in a jar, wings fluttering with no rhythm, just wild chaos.Something
