ATHENA
The whole world came to a stop at that moment when his palm made contact with my face. My face stung, and my ears were ringing. I cradled my face as I stared up at him, surprised. He has never raised his hands on me.
I saw his mouth moving, but I could not hear what he was saying. The ringing sensation clouded my hearing and somehow, everything was blurry.
Slowly my hearing came back and I finally heard him. "You should know your place. The fact that we had one or two things together doesn’t mean you should disrespect your Alpha," he uttered, readjusting his royal robe.
I made him who he is and this is how he pays me back. By tossing me away like a nobody.
I needed to leave here, away from him, away from my family who always betray me at any chance they get. I needed to run away.
The thought of staying after everything I had been put through made my eyes sting with more tears. But my heart still longed for the man who had crushed it under his heel. I could not leave Enzo. I still loved him. But…
"And don't you dare think of leaving me," his voice was rough and possessive. "You have to stay back and finish what you’ve started. I can’t take any chances since we don’t know if the curse will still return."
I was lost in thought. He rejected me in front of everyone and still do not want me to leave.
"Remember…” he started, giving me a gentle caress on my cheek till he takes me by my jaw roughly that I let out a little moan of pain. “You made a vow to me to stay with me forever, are you going to change your mind now?" His eyes were softer, but something dark lurked in his azure gaze.
I shook my head. "No, I will stay," I found myself say.
I was so stupid that I’ve let my guard down one more time.
His lips curved into a smirk before he forcefully slammed it against mine in a rough kiss. But for the first time, I knew that his kiss would leave a bitter taste in my mouth.
Eight Months Later…
I ran outside the chamber to puke after perceiving the smell of the food brought in by my mother. It was oatmeal and was one of my favorite breakfast but lately, I have been finding my best meals disgusting. I came back into the room and flashed my mother a weak smile.
“Athena," My mother called, her brown eyes glistening with hope. "You are with child."
I scoffed, wiping my mouth clean but she still maintained the look on her face.
"Are you serious?" my voice came.
"Of course, I am. I can’t miss the obvious signs plus the double heartbeat."
My legs suddenly felt heavy. I knew she was sure. Mothers always knew things like that.
“This is great news, Athena. This is exactly what you need to claim your rightful place.”
I understood my mother's words. I saw the excitement in her face and I guess she noticed the confused look on my face. She gently grabbed my hand and gently rubbed hers against mine.
"You got pregnant before your half-sister. This is good news and you need to stop sulking around. You deserve it. You did so much for him and yet…"
I grasped my mother's hand both to silence her and comfort her.
"I will be fine, mother. It will be fine."
Memories of the sacrifices that I made flashed back in my mind. I had lost my wolf while trying to make him who he is and this is how he paid me back. My blood cost me my wolf. I blinked rapidly to stop the tears forming in my eyes while I gave my mother a reassuring smile.
The curse cost the pack a lot. Families had no other choice than to kill their loved ones who must have gotten the curse. Tinctures, brews and concoctions only slowed down the process but never cured it. The ones affected by the curse turn into feral beings, they were named flesh eaters because they go after the werefolks. But my blood had been able to cure it and only four people know about this, Me, Enzo, my father and my mother. Everyone thought Enzo went on a quest in the deep forest to get the dragon scale which was rumored to be the cure for the curse but it was all my blood.
I looked back to the day I agreed to stay side by side with him after he humiliated me and wished I didn’t make that decision.
I was still yet to find my wolf even after making countless sacrifices at the moon goddess temple and Enzo had grown more and more distant over the month. He only comes to my chamber to have his way on my body as he please and leaves immediately he pours his seed into me. I just hoped that an heir would be able to make him look at me the way he used to before everything changed.
"I think you should announce it. This is great news."
"What is the great news, dear mother?" a familiar cold voice came, making us both to flinch.
Ginny walked into the room and towards my mother.
"What is the announcement all about?" She asked, her amber eyes flashing with curiosity and a hint of jealousy.
Ginny and I might be half-sisters but our paths have never crossed right from the day my father introduced her and his mistress to us. I tried to be peaceful and friendly, but she enjoyed making me suffer. She had once accused me of pushing her down the stairs and everyone believed her except for my mother. If it had been a random woman that Enzo had chosen as his Luna, maybe it would not have broken me the way it did.
"It's nothing, Ginny. Just a small announcement for later." I replied.
Ginny narrowed her eyes, clearly unsatisfied with my response, but she didn't press further. Instead, she turned to leave, shooting me one last scrutinizing at us before she took her leave.
"Her presence gives me chills," my mother said and that made me smile. “The big announcement isn’t going to make itself. We have an heir to announce.” My mother leaned over and gave me a kiss on my fore head before she exited my chamber.
I smiled as I gently rubbed my hand around my tummy.
---
Everyone was seated at the long feast table, eating and engaging in conversations. The atmosphere was light and festive, but my heart pounded with nervous anticipation as I waited for the right moment to make my announcement.
As the chatter began to die down, I stood up slowly, my hands trembling slightly at my sides. I grabbed a spoon and hit it on the glass of wine to grab their attention. All eyes turned to me, including Enzo's, his gaze flickering with curiosity, perhaps a hint of anger and an annoyance as he pondered on what I’m about to do or say.
I opened my mouth, threading my clammy hands in the faded gown that I usually wore for this type of occasion. I looked directly at Enzo not paying attention to the other guests.
"I… I have an announcement. I am…"
Then out of nowhere, Ginny stood up from her seat, her hand on her stomach. "I am with a child and I think it’s going to be a boy." She announced gleefully. I watched as Enzo shifted his gaze to her and stood up to cradle her face in his hands. Tears glistened in his azure depths.
"A boy? An heir?"
She nodded and Enzo pulled her in for a tender hug. Ginny shifted her gaze towards me as she flashed me a sly smile from across the table. There was a glint of sinister triumph in her expression. A cruel satisfaction that twisted into a mocking smirk.
Athena's POVI don't know how it happened, but despite the crippling fear from staring into the glowing eyes of whatever was outside the house, I fell asleep.I don't remember the last time I slept this well and I soon knew why. I was curled up in the Lycan Alpha's arms. The way his chest was moving under my hand told me that he was still asleep. But when I saw the sun peeking out from the curtain, I knew that ignoring was far from the truth. There was no way Lycan Alpha Zephyr was still sleeping at this hour. But even if he was sleeping, how was I going to get out of this bed without dying of mortification?!When did I even fall asleep?Or was this a vivid imagination created by the spell?I moved my head a little to look at his face and just as I expected, he was awake. But he wasn't looking at me, he was staring at the ceiling as though he was in deep thoughts.Looking at him from this angle was putting a lot of things into focus. He looked so handsome from this view, but I needed
Athena's POVMaybe it was something on my face but Velyana turned towards where I was staring at before hissing and pulling out a gun that I didn't know she carried on her person.“I'll be right back. They know better than to come around here," Velyana said to me and offered no other explanations before she was out of the house.“What is that?" I asked Bradley in a whisper and nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard the sound of gunshots.Bradley shrugged his shoulders as he began to pack up the things that we used earlier in taking care of the Lycan Alpha's injury.I wanted to help him so I moved to get up. I looked down to see that Lycan Alpha Zephyr was holding my hand despite being asleep.I stared at his hand as something warmed up in my chest.I sat back on the bed and just waited for Velyana to return. He didn't wake up at the sound of the gunshots but he was conscious enough to hold my hand? Talk about priorities!Velyana sighed deeply as she closed the door behind her.“Ath
Athena's POVLycan Alpha Zephyr was coiled on the floor with his back torn open! The wound seemed to be pumping! I don't know how else to describe it but it looked like it had no control as blood gushed out of it.“We need to leave! Now!” Velyana said to me with alarm and tried to pull me along with her but I pulled my hand away.He needed help not distance and I was the only one who could give it to him because I wouldn't die from me touching him.“No, he needs help. I can do this. We can do this, let me quickly assess the injury. There must be something that I can do!" I said to her as I gently approached the growling beast. His eyes shine golden yellow and it reflected the obvious pain that he was currently feeling.I sighed as I carefully examined the wound. For something that seems to have happened not up to an hour ago it wasn't looking good.“Does he have towels around? I need fresh towels, do we have any medical grade soaps?” I asked Velyana who nodded her head yes before dash
Athena's POV“Can you say that again? I want to be sure of what I heard," Velyana said in a very calm voice. So calm that if I didn't hear the words that were spoken I would have thought she was asking about the weather. The person who has spoken crossed her arms over her chest. She was tall for a girl, had straight blonde hair that swept past her waist and she was dressed in a beautiful dress. If only her personality was as pretty.“I said your family must truly have the luxury of picking from the runt of the litter two times in a row! Our leader decides that the one he wants is the one who wants to kill him and doesn't have the decency to have a wolf! What do you do? You pick a cursed Omega wolf and parade him around the pack like he is some trophy! He might be your mate but can you give us all a break and reject that abomination?!" The lady said and I gasped at the cruelty that she was sprouting. Before anyone could move, Velyana had the girl by her throat and her claws were slow
Athena's POVI jerked out of bed and stared pointedly at the wall in front of me with fear.It was a dream, a nightmare even.I thought that Ella had somehow gotten to me. That trip to the forest has been messing with my head and there was nobody to tell.Velyana was busy with Bradley, as she should, and Lycan Alpha Zephyr has been tucked in his office since he returned. Even if he was free, I wouldn't dare go to his office. What was I going to say anyway? That I was having nightmares? Then what?I sighed deeply before getting out of bed. The nightmare had been about being in the library, maybe I should pay another visit there. It was the one place where glares didn't follow me to and hopefully there wouldn't be any vampire lurking in the shadows to attack me.I didn't find the animal compendium of the woods of the pack but I did find old maps of the pack.I felt giddy as I compared it to the little old rag that Alpha Enzo had drawn for me when he sent me here and I saw the stack dif
Astra's POVIt was Lawrence who had ruined the water trajectory.I wasn't impressed and Laura looked particularly sad that I couldn't carry through with my plan.“Luna, I'm sure you have come here with pure intentions but Astra is still a little sore and I would advise that space be created between both of you. At least until it's safe for you to be around her,” Lawrence said to Ginny in a professional tone that if I was being honest I would say that he was patronizing her.Laura sighed dramatically as she toyed with her own glass of water. You could see her intrusive thoughts were well on their way to being open information.Ginny got out of the boot with a scowl on her face.“You know, I was actually willing to let you live under my roof as I'm the only sister that you have left. But you see this? This is exactly why I told Enzo that I didn't want anything to do with you, you vindictive bitch!” Ginny said to me as loudly as she could manage before storming off.I stared at the spot
