MasukTHEODOSA.
I didn’t hesitate.
I ran like my life depended on it.
Who was that?
How on the realm was it possible that I had another mate? One who came from Kingdom Obsidian.
It made no sense.
And why, oh goddess why, did he tell me to run?
He said I returned again, like he knew me. What the hell was that about?
The trees whipped by me as I ran for my life, but in truth, I had no idea where I was running to.
The ground began to vibrate, heavy thuds coming up from far behind me.
And all the midnight runs I’d participated in at Duskmire made the telltale sound of a running wolf easy to pick apart.
I picked up the pace, heart pounding with adrenaline. The soil was soft and littered with all sorts of fallen branches and obstacles.
Like a fool, I tripped. Landing on my hands and knees in the dirt.
I knew I should have gotten back up and kept going, but I couldn’t stop myself from glancing over my shoulder.
And that’s when I saw bright golden eyes in the darkness. His wolf was massive.
Its steps slowed, its snout lowered to the ground as it bared its teeth. Spittle dripped menacingly from massive fangs.
It was stark black, so dark coloured all I could really see were its bright eyes, and where its massive paw sank into the soil as he studied me.
It was growling, and with every second, the reverberation grew more intense.
And my body wasn’t as scared as I needed it to be. Despite the fear in my chest and mind, my body was... alive.
Thrumming and basking in the presence of this menacing wolf I’d never seen before.
Mate. Mate. Mate.
Did that mean the man...?
If there was a wolf in this forest chasing me. And there was a man, who told me to run. That meant... the man knew I would be chased.
He was the one chasing.
Something clicked in my chest.
In my heart.
Was this... Xahen Ithorno?
No...
Goddess, no.
Because that would mean... Xahen Ithorno... was my mate?
I backed away as my body finally got the message.
We were in danger.
We were about to be ripped apart by this wolf because if I remembered correctly, Xahen couldn’t control his wolf.
That’s why he told me to run.
Common sense slammed into me and I got to my feet and ran again. Weaving through the trees to disorient the wolf. I puffed and heaved as I ran, risking another glance over my shoulder.
When I saw his wolf this time, I faltered.
He wasn’t moving.
He was growling into the ground, repeatedly shaking his head and fur, snapping his teeth at nothing, like he was fighting control.
What the...
The wolf suddenly stiffened, then those golden eyes came back to me.
In the next second, the beast lunged into the air in an attack.
I screamed, running until the path ended.
The darkness didn’t let me see what was at the bottom of the hill.
It was covered in thick fog.
I turned around as his wolf slowed in front of me, pawfalls easing up as he realized he had his prey right where he wanted me.
In the span of one night, my life had spun completely off course.
I was rejected by my mate, then given another that wanted me dead in almost the same breath. Cast away from my home and thrust into the most dangerous Kingdom in the realm.
I was standing face to face with the very myth parents used to scare their children into behaving right.
The simple concept of Xahen Ithorno spoke darkness into your soul.
I was damn near paralyzed.
One more step backward, and I’d fall right off the cliff.
The wolf’s head dropped low, growling as he prepared to lunge.
“Please,” I squeezed my eyes shut as I cried, “Don’t hurt me!”
But it was too late.
His momentum was already set.
I curled into myself and the beast lunged for me.
I felt the attack before I fell into oblivion.
THEODOSA. I felt my soul crumble.“No…”That wasn’t fair. I didn’t deserve to die because some girl who looked like me had wronged them.“I’m telling you I have no idea who Oceanne or Luna Trivian is. I’m Theodosa Fane. I have siblings, Binny and Pippa Fane. My mother died years ago, but I knew her. I wasn’t adopted. I have pictures of her pregnant.” Tears slid down my cheeks. “You can’t do this. I have a life to return to.”His eyes narrowed. “How did you end up here?”“T-There was a game… a party. My brother and I fell into the water.”“Quite reckless with the tides.”Quite mean.Quite horrible.Quite unlike the Narra I thought I knew.“The current washed me here,” I whispered. “I didn’t come on my own.”“And what happened in the forest?”My chest cooled at the memory of Xahen wrapped in shadows.“He called me... his mate,” I dropped my gaze to the floor, “Then he told me to run.”“He told you to run?” he asked, surprised.“Yes. And I did.”“Did he shift?”“He did. His wolf chased
THEODOSA. My side was aching. Burning. My throat felt dry, my tongue heavy as I shifted on a hard, crusty surface. I was aware of two things. One. I was alive, and there was a terrible ache in my side. Two. I wasn’t alone. That thrum of electricity I’d felt with Narra and the man from the woods was present again. Slowly, I peeled my eyes open, lips parting of their own accord when I saw the bars. The concrete floor and walls. I was in a cell. My gaze automatically shifted to the right of the room, looking outside the bars, where the man from the woods was seated in a chair. Shadows danced all around him. I could only make out the harsh set of his features, his tattooed arms folded over his broad chest as he watched me with an emotion I could only describe as pure hate. I actually flinched. “You’re scaring her, Xahen.” I jerked, turning sharply and looking behind me, where a man sat on a chair... inside the cell with me. I took him in, noting he didn’t look like a pri

THEODOSA. A brutal ache spread through my chest like wildfire. Nothing could have prepared me for it. Narra shoved me as the crowd laughed, taunting and pushing the rejection along. The one person I thought didn’t find me disgusting… couldn’t stand the idea of anyone knowing we were mates. “You fucking bastard!” Binny roared, charging toward Narra as his shoes left burning footprints in their wake. He was fire gifted. That was his wolfs given ability. “Don’t try to fight me, Binny,” Narra warned, “You’ll loose.”But Binny swung anyway, fiery fist blazing. Narra, water gifted—and an alpha-blooded one—extinguished the flames instantly. And when Binny cracked him across the jaw, Narra’s friends intervened and held him down. “What the hell is going on here?” Pippa shoved through the crowd with her boyfriend right behind her, holding her back.“Narra… st-stop,” I whispered. “What was that?” Narra turned, brows slanted harshly over angry eyes. “You know, I tried to be nice. THEODOSA.I’d sucked Prince Narra’s cock more times than I cared to admit out loud.No one knew, it was our little secret––the beta’s bastard daughter sneaking off with the pack’s most sought-after heir.Narra Triosi was next in line to become the Alpha King of Duskmire. No one would imagine he would have interest in me even if I wasn’t the child the beta of our pack was the least proud of.And it didn’t take a genius to figure out why.It was because of how I looked.Overweight, soft, nothing like the lean, muscled wolves of Kingdom Duskmire.I liked my body, don’t get me wrong. But everyone thought I was fat.It didn’t helP that I was the bastard child from an affair my father would rather forget. He made that very clear when he brought me home when my mother died.Everything the people of Duskmire knew about me, they weaponized.Except my siblings. Except him.Narra Triosi.And... maybe that’s why I fell for him. That, and the countless flowers, the affection, the way he was the on
