LUCIEN'S POV

"You can't be serious."

Kaelen stared at me like I'd suggested walking into a den of vipers unarmed.

"You want to bring an elf into our kingdom." He shook his head. "We've been distant from them for centuries, Lucien. Barely any contact, no trust rebuilt between us. Inviting one in now could be dangerous. They wield magic we don't fully understand, magic built for far more than healing."

"I'm aware."

"Are you?" He crossed his arms. "Are you actually going to go through with this?"

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 81: Far From Mundane

LUCIEN'S POV "Moon Goddess Incarnate?"Iliana studied me, something like disbelief crossing her sharp features. Before answering, she glanced down at the restraints circling her wrists, and a flicker of irritation passed through her expression."I understand the need for caution," she said, voice cool, "though I'll admit I expected slightly warmer treatment from a king asking for my help.""Circumstances demand certain precautions." I held her gaze. "You'll understand once you know what's at stake.""I do understand precautions." Her tone sharpened. "I understand them far less when they involve binding the hands of the one person you've brought here to save her."Terak shifted beside me, saying nothing. I let the silence sit a beat before pressing forward."You spoke of a Moon Goddess Incarnate.""I did." Her irritation gave way to something more incredulous. "You truly don't know who I mean?""We do not," Kaelen said flatly. "Enlighten us.""You have to be joking." She looked betwee

"Are you actually going to go through with this?"The room went quiet for a long moment before I answered."Yes." My voice didn't waver. "If it means bringing her back, I'd walk to the ends of this earth and climb whatever mountain stood in the way. I'd bring anyone into this palace if it meant Aylin opens her eyes again.""Then it needs to happen quietly," Terak said from the corner, arms folded I did not even realize that he had come in. "No one outside this room can know an elf has entered our borders. Full guard detail, no exceptions.""Ag

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 79: Magical Assistance

LUCIEN'S POV The reports on my desk painted a picture I could not understand. They were overwhelming even for me.Rogue attacks had resumed across three separate territories, all within the same week, all carrying the same signature. Villagers found with injection marks on the arms of the dead, toxins we hadn't identified were found in their system. The rogues left behind no organs entirely, precise incisions where kidneys, hearts, sometimes entire sections of tissue should have been. Rogue did not do that, they were not that thorough.Someone was harvesting my people.I dropped the report onto the pile beside it, pressing both palms flat against the desk. What could anyone possibly want with werewolf organs and most especially, Why would rouges be doing this? The question circled without landing anywhere useful, and beneath it, quieter but louder in the parts of me that mattered, sat a name I couldn't push away.Aylin.I'd moved her into my own room after the threat arrived on my de

AYLIN'S POV I couldn't move, but I could hear him.My body lay somewhere far below the rest of me, unreachable, while my mind stayed fully awake inside it. Lucien's hand was wrapped around mine, warm against skin that felt disconnected from everything else I was."Please." His voice cracked, low and rough, the kind of sound I'd never heard from him before. "Wake up. Come back to me. I can't lose you."I wanted to answer. I couldn't make my mouth move, couldn't make anything move, trapped somewhere between sleep and something deeper."The rogues are attacking again." He said. "I don't even know what to do about it anymore. None of that matters half as much as you not being here. Please. Please come back."I tried to scream that I was listening, that I could hear every word, that I was fighting just as hard from wherever I was as he was fighting from where he sat. Nothing came out. Nothing ever did.And then the room dissolved.Silver trees rose up around me in place of stone walls, an

LUCIEN'S POVThe healers' wing had never felt this cold before.I paced its length until my boots wore a path into the stone, Aylin's body still on the bed behind me, wrapped in bandages that did nothing to ease the dread sitting in my chest. She hadn't stirred since the moment she collapsed."Seraphine." I turned on her the second she stepped out. "What is going on?""I don't know yet.""What do you mean you don't know?""Exactly that." Exhaustion pulled at her voice. "Her body isn't responding the way an injury should. It's not the wounds. Something deeper is happening, something I've never seen before. There's a conflict inside her, and I can't name what's fighting what.""Is she dying?""No, I don't know." Her eyes softened. "But whatever this is, her body's fighting itself. Magic, maybe. I need more time to understand it.""Time isn't something I have." My voice cracked. "I can't lose her again.""I'm doing everything I can, Lucien.""Try harder."She fixed me with a look sharp e

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 76: Finally Together?

LUCIEN'S POV I held her like she might shatter if I gripped too tight.Wounds covered nearly every inch of her, blood soaking through what remained of her dress, and I could feel every ounce of pain radiating off her like it had become my own. In a way, it had. Every ache in her body settled somewhere in my chest, sharp and immediate, and I had never in my life felt this helpless. All I could do was hold her. Look at her. Breathe her in like proof she was actually here. Her hand found my face, weak but steady, and she smiled up at me despite everything."I missed you.""God, I missed you too." My voice broke on the words. "By the moon, Aylin, I missed you so much.""Lucien." She swallowed hard. "I have something to tell you.""Me too."I pressed my forehead against hers, needing her to understand this before anything else in the world came between us again."I don't care who you are. What you are. Where you come from." My hands tightened gently around her face. "My heart beats for yo
