I sat in the back of an ambulance with a thick blanket wrapped around my shoulders, watching as Antonio was led away in handcuffs. His leg had been hastily bandaged, but he was still limping along as the guards whisked him away.

His eyes found mine as they pushed him into a vehicle. Even in defeat, his gaze was filled with nothing but pure hatred. I stared back, refusing to look away from him until the doors closed between us.

Agent Harrison approached me. I could see the satisfaction on his face as clear as day. "We've got him, Flora. And the two surviving crime bosses. The other two didn't make it."

FLORAAntonio's laughter turned more cruel. "Margaret, still acting like a savior, I see. Why would I trade this young hostage for a dying old woman?""Because I'm the one you really want," she replied. "I'm the one who helped turn Carlo against you. I helped him gather incriminating evidence against you."I could feel Antonio's grip on me tighten at her words. The blade pressed harder against my throat."Mom, don't," I pleaded. She took a step forward. "You know I'm right, Antonio. Killing me would be your true revenge."Antonio hesitated for a moment. I could sense his indecision. "Stay where you are," he finally ordered. "All of you. I'm taking the girl. Once I'm safely away, I'll release her.""You're lying," Dante said as he took a small step forward, moving toward Antonio and me."Stop!" Antonio ordered as he pressed the knife harder against my skin. I felt a warm trickle of blood run down my neck. "The next step you take will end her life."Dante froze and raised his hands imme

FLORAAntonio's finger tightened visibly on the trigger of his gun. I rushed forward, but before he could fire, his expression suddenly changed. With a savage growl, he suddenly turned and lunged, not at me or even Dante, but at my mother surprisingly. The knife in his hand flashed in the sunlight as he charged viciously. My mother stood there, frozen. Her eyes were wide with shock."No!" Dante roared, immediately throwing himself between both of them. The blade sank into Dante's shoulder with a sharp sound. He grunted in pain but grabbed Antonio's wrist, preventing him from pulling out the knife for another strike.I raised my gun but I couldn't get a clean shot with both of them so close to each other. Blood had begun to spread across Dante's shirt as he fought to keep Antonio's knife hand controlled.Shouts began to come from the entrance to the courtyard. When I glanced over, I could see a group of Antonio's guards rushing in with their weapons already out and drawn. I knew we wer

FLORA"Mom?" I whispered, lowering the gun. I was too shocked at my mother’s presence to move.My mother stepped into the room and closed the door behind her. In her hand was a gun, and she was holding it with the confidence of someone who knew how to use it."Flora," she said. Her voice was steady. "I followed you from the hospital. I knew what you were planning.""How did you—""Get to the island?" She gave a grim smile. "I still have connections from my time with Carlo. There were some people who owed me favors. So I got here on a supply boat," she said, pulling something from her pocket. It was a small flash drive. "I paid the captain enough to look the other way. He thinks I'm delivering important documents to Antonio."She moved to the monitors, and her eyes immediately found Antonio on the screen where he was still fighting with Dante."I need to end this," she said, gripping her gun tighter. "Antonio took Carlo from me. I won't let him take my daughter too."The look in her ey

FLORACold water shocked my system as I plunged beneath the surface. Sofia's words echoed in my mind: "Swim underwater to the southern side." I kicked hard, and pushed myself deeper, grateful for those childhood swimming lessons my mother had insisted on.The weight of my waterproof pack dragged at my shoulders, but I kept moving. Bullets pierced the water around me, and each one made a strange sound as it landed in the water. I stayed underwater until my lungs started to burn, and then I resurfaced just enough to grab a quick breath before diving again. The sound of gunfire grew more distant. I risked a longer look above water and saw Sofia swimming away in the opposite direction. She was splashing really loudly and drawing the attention of the guards at the dock. It was a smart move. It was dangerous, but still smart nonetheless.I continued to make my way toward the southern side instead of the eastern one Sofia had mentioned earlier when we had embarked on this mission. It was a

DANTE "How did you even get all this information from prison?" Victor Cardenas demanded. It was quite obvious to me that he was still shocked at Antonio’s actions. “I need to know.” Antonio laughed quite loudly for a while before he spoke. “I had help, of course. I had loyal soldiers in every family who would gather information and report back to me." He gestured toward Lorenzo. "I had people in places that no one would have ever suspected." Then I felt the handcuffs click. They were now unlocked, but I still kept my hands positioned as if they were still bound because it wasn’t yet time for action. And the timing had to be perfect. "Now," Antonio said, turning back to me, "there's one final piece of business that needs to be taken care of." As he walked toward me slowly, each step he took felt long and pronounced. I could smell his cologne. It was the same one he had always worn even when I was a child. The scent brought back memories of hiding in closets, of Sofia's muffled

DANTEThe cold metal of the handcuffs bit into my wrists as Lorenzo shoved me forward. His grip on my arm was tight enough to leave bruises. I stumbled, partly for show and partly because the blow to my head from earlier was still making the world tilt sideways."Move it," Lorenzo growled, loud enough for everyone to hear.We entered what looked like a grand dining room which had been converted into a meeting hall. Five large chairs were positioned at the head of a long table, and four of them were occupied by men I recognized as the heads of the other crime families. The fifth chair, the center one, was where my father sat.Antonio Romano looked exactly like the last time I had seen him: broad shoulders, silver-streaked black hair, and eyes that could freeze hell itself. His eyes met mine, and I felt that familiar chill crawl up my spine, the one I had spent lots of years trying to forget."My son returns," Antonio said, his voice echoing across the whole room. "Though not quite as

FLORALorenzo quickly moved to the side as the guard fired, dodging the bullet expertly.Sofia immediately cut the engine because she didn’t want the little noise it was making to attract any of the guards to us. Now we were just drifting silently. "Something’s gone wrong. They knew Lorenzo had eventually decided to work with Dante."Through the binoculars, I watched the chaotic scene unfold. Lorenzo had taken cover behind some crates and was returning fire. Dante had somehow freed his hands and had gotten a weapon, probably from one of the guards he had taken down."We need to help them," I said urgently. I was already panicking slightly."No," Sofia replied firmly. "If we blow our cover too, the whole plan will fall apart. So we have to stick to the mission. We’ll make sure we get to the security office, disable the system, and get the evidence of Antonio's conspiracy with the other mafia dons so that we can present it together with Carlo’s evidence to Harrison."I knew she was rig

FLORA Time was running out. The evidence was secure, Salvatore was recovering, and my mother was resting at the private clinic under Dr. Chen's watchful eye. But the clock was ticking, both for stopping Antonio and for saving my mother's life. We gathered at Dante's penthouse for one final time to strategize. The large dining table was covered with maps of the island, including security details, layouts of the buildings, and other important information. "We can’t work with our original plan anymore," Dante said, addressing the room. “We have to tweak it a bit.” Everyone was there: Sofia, Lorenzo— whose arm was in a sling but otherwise he had recovered, Anthony, Harrison, and me. "Antonio knows we have the evidence,” Dante continued. “He'll be expecting us to make a move." "So we give him what he expects," Lorenzo said. He winced as he shifted in his chair. "But not in the way he anticipates." Dante nodded as he pointed to the map. "Lorenzo will bring me to the island as
