A surprise

“Is our new home that far?” Jill yawned, already tired of the ride. It's not a secret that my kids hate trips since we have been going on numerous trips since they were born.

I chuckled at the impatient expression on her face. “It's not that far. Don't worry, we are almost there.”

We would have been there long ago had I driven like before. But no, I had to be extra careful on the road to prevent my happiness from taking the upper hand and leading me to something I might regret.

“Can you get an ice cream for us?” Jane rubbed her eyes. “I'm tired.”

“Do you want an ice cream now or when we reach?” I glanced at them through the mirror.

“Now!” they chorused together, not taking a moment to think.

“Okay.”

And like that, a journey that would have taken us an hour max, took us two hours and thirty minutes to arrive. I had to buy their favourite ice cream for them.

I drove straight to Miguel's mansion. Luckily, he wasn't back by the time we arrived. His guards let me in as if it's natural
