"I know." I moved to the bed, and my heart cracked open.

She was so small. So tiny and fragile, her little body convulsing with tremors. Her skin was already turning gray, dark veins crawling up her neck like evil fingers.

"Who are you?" The father demanded, moving to block my path. "What are you doing?"

"She's a healer," Dr. Reyna said quickly. "She cured a venom poisoning case this morning. She can help Luna."

"A healer?" The mother's red, swollen eyes latched onto me with desperate hope. "You can save her?"

"I'm going to try." I looked at the parents. "But I need you to leave. Just for a little while. I work better without—"

"No." The father's voice was hard. "That's our daughter. We're not leaving her."

"Sir, please—"

"Let them stay," I said quietly. I understood. If she were my child, I wouldn't leave either. "Just... just give me some room to work."

The parents moved back, and I approached Luna's bed.

She was worse than Marcus had been. The venom had spread faster, probably beca

  • Bound by Fangs and Blood   15: Dear Dr Mike

THIRD PERSON POV Mike Ferdinez stared at the newspaper article with trembling hands. "MIRACLE HEALER OF UMBRA PACK SAVES DOZENS FROM VAMPIRE VENOM" Below the headline was a grainy photo of a woman in healer's robes, her face partially obscured, but Mike would recognize that profile anywhere. Eve. His Eve. "That's impossible," he breathed. "She's dead. I left her dead." "Who's dead, darling?" Sheila's voice drifted from the bedroom. She appeared in the doorway wearing nothing but his shirt, her expression shifting from seductive to suspicious when she saw his face. "What's wrong?" Mike couldn't answer. His eyes were glued to the article. The mysterious healer, identified only as Eve, has revolutionized Umbra Pack's medical response to the recent vampire attacks. Sources claim she can cure venom poisoning in minutes, a feat previously thought impossible. "Mike?" Sheila moved closer, peering over his shoulder. Her entire body went rigid. "Is that... no. No, that can't be her."

  • Bound by Fangs and Blood   14: Rest, Eve Rest

EVE By the time I finished healing the fourth patient, I couldn't feel my legs anymore. Dr. Reyna had been right. I should have rested. But every time I thought about stopping, I'd picture another family like Luna's, another mother crying over a dying child, and I'd push myself to the next bed. "That's it," Dr. Reyna said firmly as I swayed on my feet. "No more. You're done." "There's one more," I mumbled, squinting at her through blurry vision. "You said five patients." "The fifth one can wait. You look like a corpse, Eve. Your lips are blue." Were they? I touched my mouth, but my fingers were too numb to tell. "Just one more," I insisted, but my voice came out slurred. "Then I'll rest. Promise." "No." Dr. Reyna grabbed my arm as I started to pitch forward. "Dr. Morris! Help me!" The gray-haired doctor appeared, his face creased with concern. "Good lord. How many did she heal?" "Four critical venom cases in three hours." Dr. Reyna's voice sounded far away now. "She won't st

The female doctor—Dr. Reyna, I learned her name was—stared at me like I'd just grown a second head."How did you do that?" She kept checking Marcus's vitals, her movements almost frantic. "The venom was in his bones. His organs were shutting down. We couldn't even slow it down, and you just... you just made it disappear?"I leaned against the wall, suddenly feeling every bit of energy I'd just used. My legs felt like jelly. "I don't know. I just... felt where the poison was and pushed it out.""You just felt it." Dr. Reyna repeated my words like they were in a foreign language. "You just felt it and pushed it out.""Yeah." I knew how crazy it sounded. Hell, I lived it and I still thought it was crazy.Marcus groaned from the bed, trying to sit up. "Easy," I said, moving to help him even though my own body was protesting. "You've been through a lot.""I was dying," he said, his voice rough. His hand grabbed mine, squeezing tight. "I felt it. I felt the poison eating me from the inside.

Two hours later, I stood in front of the hospital wearing stiff new healer's robes that smelled like lavender and felt nothing like my comfortable maid's uniform. My stomach churned with nerves.Adam had left early for some Alpha business, kissing me thoroughly before he went and promising to check on me later. Now I was alone, staring at the hospital entrance like it might swallow me whole."You can do this," I whispered to myself. "You healed dozens of people last night. You can do this."But last night was different. Last night was chaos and adrenaline and instinct. This was... official. This was me walking into a hospital full of trained doctors and healers who would see me as an unqualified vampire who slept her way into a position.Which, to be fair, wasn't entirely wrong.I touched my lips, remembering Adam's fingers, his mouth, the way he'd made me fall apart..."Focus, Eve," I muttered.Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the hospital doors. The main ward was busy with mornin

EVEA sharp knock jolted me away from my meaningless dream slumber. "Eve! EVE!" Madam Bella's voice rang through the heavy door like a bell. "Open this door right now!"I sat up so fast my head spun. it was already morning and I'd fallen asleep in Adam's bed, in Adam's arms, wearing nothing but my wrinkled maid's uniform.OMG!! Eve what have you done!Adam stirred beside me, his arm tightening around my waist. "Ignore her," he mumbled, his voice rough with sleep."I can't ignore her!" I hissed, trying to wiggle free. "She's going to break down the door!""Let her try." He pulled me closer, burying his face in my neck. "You smell good in the morning."My traitorous body melted at his words, but Madam Bella's pounding grew louder."ALPHA ADAM! I know she's in there! The entire palace is talking about it!"Adam groaned and finally released me. "That woman has the worst timing in history."I scrambled off the bed, trying to smooth down my uniform and hair. I probably looked like I'd been
