~JESSICA~

I don't know how long I lay there, just listening to the steady rise and fall of Daniel’s chest, the slow rhythm of his breathing as the last remnants of the storm faded into a dull whisper beyond the windows.

But as the morning light warmed the room, something inside me shifted….something I’d kept buried for so long I wasn’t even sure I could find the words for it anymore.

Still, I knew I had to try.

I slowly sat up, and he stirred immediately.

“Jess?” His voice was husky with sleep, and concern instantly flickered in his eyes when he saw my face.

“I'm sorry about last night” I apologized.

“Sshhh….You don't need to apologize, it's fine” he said. “Are you okay now??”

“I'm fine now” I replied and he nodded his head and sighed in relief.

“I need to tell you something,” I said softly.

He sat up beside me, fully alert now. “Okay.”

I looked out the window, at the wet streets below, the sky still overcast, a soft drizzle continuing to fall.

Somehow, it fe

  • Bound by a billionaire    Jessica's recovery journey

~JESSICA~ONE WEEK LATERI’d always imagined hospitals as gloomy places full of beeping machines, strange smells, and cranky nurses. And sure, there were moments when that was true……like when Nurse Patel tried to smuggle prune juice into my breakfast tray like it was some kind of treat. But being stuck in a hospital bed for days on end has a way of humbling you. You start to notice the little things. The color of the ceiling tiles. The exact rhythm of the heart monitor. The way Daniel Sutherland hums off-key when he thinks you’re asleep.Yeah. That one I noticed a lot.Recovery was slow. Frustratingly slow. My legs still felt like noodles. Walking across the room felt like I was climbing Everest barefoot. My head still throbbed when I moved too fast, and I wasn’t even allowed to eat solid food for the first few days without someone standing over me like I was a ticking time bomb. And through all of it……every single maddening second—Daniel was there.**I woke

  • Bound by a billionaire    Gray's room

~JESSICA~Two days later, I convinced the doctors to let me leave my bed—just for a short while. The pain in my ribs still made breathing feel like a slow battle, but I needed this.I needed to see Gray.Daniel arranged everything. A nurse helped ease me into the wheelchair, tucking a light blanket over my legs, though I was already shivering from something deeper than cold. Guilt. Dread. The unknown.Daniel walked behind me silently, one hand gently pushing the wheelchair, the other occasionally brushing over my shoulder like a grounding presence. The quiet hum of fluorescent lights echoed above us as we moved through the hospital corridor. Everything smelled of antiseptic and sadness. My stomach twisted the closer we got to Gray’s room.“What if he hates me?” I whispered, mostly to myself.Daniel didn’t answer immediately. Then he leaned down and said quietly near my ear, “He doesn’t. He won’t.”When we reached Room 208, my heart was pounding so loudly I thou

  • Bound by a billionaire    Journey of togetherness

~JESSICA~When I woke up again, the world felt like cotton—soft, muted, and distant.Everything ached. My head throbbed like a distant drum, and my limbs felt heavy, like they belonged to someone else. But the first thing I noticed wasn’t the pain.It was warmth.A hand. Holding mine.Firm. Familiar.Daniel.I turned my head slowly, every motion sluggish. He was asleep in the chair beside my bed, head tilted at an awkward angle, his cheek resting on our joined hands. He looked exhausted. His usually put-together hair was a mess, and the faint stubble along his jaw told me he hadn’t shaved in a few days. His suit jacket was crumpled on the floor, and he had a thin hospital blanket wrapped around his shoulders like an afterthought.I studied him through half-lidded eyes.He stayed. He really stayed. My heart swelled with something indescribable. He could have left. He should have. But he didn’t.I remembered his voice….broken, pleading. I’d heard it through th

  • Bound by a billionaire    Confession of love

~DANIEL~Hours had passed. Then hours became a day. Then another. And still Jessica hadn’t woken up.She hadn't opened her eyes.I didn't leave her side. Not for food. Not for sleep. Not even when the nurses suggested it would “do me good.”I couldn’t.Not when every beep of the monitor was the only reassurance that she was still here.I sat beside her now, my fingers curled around her limp hand. The hospital room was dim, lit only by the muted golden glow of early evening. Outside, the world moved on. But in this room, time had frozen. My eyes were fixed on her still face. Machines beeped softly around her, a cruel reminder that it took wires and tubes to keep her body stable. But her heart was beating. And that had to mean something.“Hey, Jess…” I whispered, my voice raw.I brushed a strand of hair from her face. “It’s me. Again. You've got to wake up now.”No movement.I swallowed hard, voice cracking with exhaustion.“You’ve been out for too long,” I said

  • Bound by a billionaire    At the hospital

~DANIEL~The call came just as I stepped into my office at the construction site.I almost didn’t answer. But something in my chest twisted, a sharp coil of dread as my phone vibrated in my hand.Unknown number.I picked it up.“Mr. Sutherland?”“Yes” I replied.“There’s been an accident. The woman registered as Jessica Sutherland—she’s at St. Joseph’s General. You need to come. Now” the female voice at the other end of the call said. The phone slipped from my grip. And in that instant, the only thing I could hear….was the sound of my own heart shattering.I ran out of the office, and soon I was driving in high speed in my car and on my way to the hospital.****The emergency room reeked of antiseptic and panic.I shoved through the double doors like a man possessed, the voices of the staff blurring around me as I stormed the front desk.“I need to see Jessica Sutherland. I need to see my wife,” I barked. “She was in an accident…she was just brought in.”The n

  • Bound by a billionaire    A fatal accident

~DANIEL~It was now I knew how strong my wife was. She'd witnessed her mom's unfateful death just like I did and she still grew up strong. She said lots of good things about Sarah and I thanked Sarah inwardly for loving Jessica and treating her like her child. No wonder Jessica was ready to do anything to save her life when she was critically ill. No wonder she had begged desperately for me not to take my job back when she met me again at the company after hitting me at the club.No wonder she had willingly agreed to sign the contract of being my wife for a year because she needed the money to save the woman who was there for her in her hard times.Jessica's the type of woman who would go to any length for the people she loves and I love that about her. She's the kindest, selfless, caring and homely soul I've ever met in my life. And though I would never admit it to her, anyone who has Jessica in his or her lives is so lucky, and I wasn't excluded. How was Alb
