Eli's pov

I followed him.

I didn’t have a choice.

Emilio walked ahead of me, slow and steady, like a man thinking hard.

Maybe he was plotting my death and funeral. How to paint it like an accident.

I swallowed at the thought.

He looked like someone with a storm brewing behind his eyes. His back was straight, his shoulders tight, his fingers flexing open and closed as we made our way down the long hallway to his private study.

The door creaked as he pushed it open.

“In,” he said without turning.

I stepped inside, my nerves rattling in my chest. The air was thick here, smelling of leather, old cigars, and gun oil. The door clicked shut behind me. Locked.

“Sit.”

I sank into the chair by the desk, my throat dry as dust. Emilio moved to the window, looking out over the courtyard. Silent. Brooding.

He said nothing for a long time.

The silence stretched, choking, until finally—

“Where is she?”

His voice sliced the quiet cleanly, like an extremely sharp sword. It was deadly.

  • Bound by blood and lies   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN

Eli's povThe quiet was beginning to eat me alive.Luca, Matteo and I were supposed to be working together, unraveling whatever the hell this dark puzzle was, this web of secrets and half-truths that had somehow wrapped itself around all three families. But lately…Lately something was off. They were holding something back.I could feel it.In the tense looks they exchanged when they thought I wasn’t paying attention. In the sudden shifts of conversation. In Matteo’s lingering glance whenever I left a room. And Luca…God.Luca, who’d always met my eyes head-on—steady, honest, calm—could barely hold my gaze for more than a few seconds now.Something had changed. And I was being left behind.Or maybe I was losing my mind.I leaned forward at the long table in the study, fingers laced tight together as the scent of old wood and cigars floated around me. Matteo stood at the window, pacing like a caged wolf. Luca sat across from me, flipping through old papers, papers I wasn’t allowed to t

Luca's povThe night air bit into my skin as I hurried across the courtyard, the folder pressed tight against my chest like it might burn a hole straight through me.I couldn’t think.Could barely breathe.Silas… my brother.Evangeline, alive, possibly. Watching. Waiting. And Eli… Eli was the key to everything.I couldn’t go to him.Not yet.I needed someone who could help me carry this weight before it crushed me.I needed Matteo.****I found him where I knew he’d be, leaning against the balcony rail outside the east wing, cigarette in hand, gaze lost in the city lights below. When he heard my footsteps, he turned, dark eyes narrowing.“Luca,” he greeted cautiously, flicking the cigarette away. “Where the hell have you been?”I didn’t answer. I shoved the folder into his chest.“Read.”He caught it, frowning, flipping the twine loose with practiced fingers. As he read, page by page, his face changed. From confusion. To shock. To horror. His throat worked as he swallowed hard, snappi

Luca's povThe lock on my father’s office door clicked open beneath my fingers. I slipped inside, heart hammering in my chest. The scent of old wood and cigars filled the air, so familiar it made my stomach twist. For years, this room had been off limits. Papa’s sanctuary. The heart of the Rossi empire. And now, it was mine to desecrate.I moved quickly, knowing the drug wouldn’t keep him out for more than a few hours. His massive, polished desk stood like a throne. I slid open drawer after drawer. Contracts. Ledgers. Guns. Cash.Nothing.Until I reached the bottom left.A false bottom.Of course.I dug my fingers beneath the wood and pried it up.A folder. Thick. Bound in red twine.I pulled it free, laying it flat on the desk. The label on the front was enough to make my blood run cold."Evangeline Moretti."My mother’s name.Hands steady, opened it.And the world turned upside down. The first page was a photo.Faded, but clear enough. My father... with Evangeline. Not standing apar

Luca's povIt had been years since I asked my father to have dinner with me.Not a business dinner. Not a famiglia meeting. Just... dinner. Like we used to when I was a boy before the burdens of the Rossi name settled on both our shoulders. And when I made the offer this morning, his surprise was obvious.“Dinner?” Emilio had blinked at me, caught off guard for once. “No guards? No capos? Just us? Not to talk about the war?”I smiled, forcing warmth into my voice.“Just us, Papa. Like old times.”He stared at me for a long, quiet moment. Searching. Measuring. But he couldn’t see what I was hiding. He never could when I smiled the right way.At last, he grunted and clapped my shoulder.“Fine, figlio mio. Tonight, then. I’ll have the kitchen make something special.”I grinned. “No. Let me handle it.”His brows rose higher.“You? Cook?”“Hey,” I chuckled, “I remember a few things from Nonna and… there's a lot that has changed over the years. You'd be surprised by how much I can be domest

  • Bound by blood and lies   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREE

For two long days, I dug.I pried, I whispered, I pressed the right palms and twisted the wrong arms. But every time I thought I caught the scent of truth, the trail turned back on itself, vanishing into shadows deeper than I could reach. The famiglia had closed ranks. No loose lips. No cracks in the stone. It was bigger than me.And I was starting to realize that if I kept pushing alone... I’d end up like Marcelo.Dead.I needed help.Real help.Late that night, I called Luca and Eli to my room. No guards. No ears. Just us.When they arrived, the tension was thick enough to choke on. Luca walked in first, jaw tight, eyes scanning the room like a man expecting knives in the dark. Eli followed, pale, quiet, a shadow of his usual cocky self.I closed the door and bolted it.“We have a problem,” I said.Luca grunted. “No kidding.”“No,” I said sharply. “Bigger than you think. Bigger than all of us.”They waited.I took a breath and told them everything.About the guards. About Emilio com
