Chapter 4

Gianni's POV

I arrived at Professor Lisa's home and she was outside to welcome me. "Good evening ma'am," I greeted politely.

"Come in, thanks for coming all the way here tonight," we entered the house as she led the way upstairs and I followed behind we got to her room, and she sat down and arranged her makeup.

"It's no problem ma, after all, it's work," I flashed a polite smile.

"The kids are watching TV in the children's playroom and don't forget the kids are allergic, just prepare dinner and breakfast, in the morning get them ready for school and the driver will take them to school, yes it's just you and the kids at home, their dad isn't at home, I don't know when he will be back and I'm going out now," professor Lisa explained while arranging her makeup.

"Do I look good?" She asked and I nodded my head in response with a smile on my face, "I'm leaving now, make sure to use only my room."

I followed her downstairs and saw her off to her car before entering her house and locking the door.

"Francis! Selena!" I called out as I walked to the children's playroom.

Francis is the younger child and he is 9 while Selena is younger and she is 14 years old, these kids are cute but the devil themselves.

"It's bedtime," I announced the moment I opened the door.

"Aunty Gianni," the kids ran to hug me and I hugged them back.

"How are my babies," I pecked them as they giggled.

********

The kids were sitting on the kitchen island playing with toys while I made their favorite cookies when I suddenly heard footsteps coming down the stairs.

"Kids, is there anyone except us in this house right now?" Professor Lisa said it was just the I and the kids in the house but I asked the kids to make sure.

"No It's just us," Selena answered and continued playing with Francis.

"Okay, Selena stay with Francis and don't come out," I picked up the kitchen knife and walked slowly to the stairs.

I stood by the edge of the stairs, picked up a vase, and hit the head of the person, he turned with his hands on his head.

"Who the fuck?" He pressed on his head as blood rolled down his face.

His eyes darted from my face to the table behind me and I followed his gaze to realize he was looking at the knife behind me.

I hurriedly picked up the knife but the man was fast. He dragged the knife from my hands and pushed me to the floor. I used my legs to hit him but he caught my legs between his hands.

In a swift moment, he used my hand to pin mine and used his other hand to place the knife under my throat, I could feel the sharp metal cut into my skin, I felt this was the moment I was going to die.

"Aunty Gianni?" I heard Francis call me, I couldn't put these kids at risk.

"Aunty Gianni?" The man who had me pinned against the ground was in confusion and I saw the opportunity to get away from him so I spat into his eyes when he was distracted, the moment he let go of my hands I raised my head and knocked his head with mine.

"Uncle Landon?" Francis called out innocently and ran to hug him while I stared in surprise.

"Really? Uncle Landon? You could have said that earlier," I hit my hand against my forehead and winked in pain.

"That must hurt a lot, how would you knock a man on his head and expect not to feel pain," I could hear the amusement in Landon's voice.

"Selena, what's cooking?" Landon picked Francis from the floor into his arms.

"Aunty Gianni is baking," Selena pointed at me.

"Aunty Gianni, what's baking?" Landon smirked.

"You almost killed me," I pointed at the spot on my neck.

"You almost killed me too," Landon pointed at his head.

I walked upstairs leaving everyone in the living room to get the first aid kit from Professor Lisa's room and I came back downstairs to see the munching on baked cookies in the living room.

"They were almost burnt," Landon raised his hands in defense.

I walked closer to him and started the first aid treatment, "Wait! Are you a doctor or something?" Landon asked when I administered an injection to him.

"A student doctor, professor Lisa's student," I answered and still gave him the injection.

After eating the cookies, I put the kids to sleep while Landon and I sat and gossiped the whole night, funny enough we clicked right away.

********

Before I woke up, Landon had already prepared the kids for school and I woke up in a room I haven't slept in before.

Psstt," I heard Louis calling from his seat.

I turned to face him, a sense of weariness evident in my eyes. "What?" I whispered back, my voice barely audible in the hushed classroom.

"Let's grab lunch after Mrs. Scarlett's class," Louis suggested, his voice filled with a tinge of excitement.

Today, we were tasked with the dissection of dead bodies in our anatomy class, an experience that had left an indelible mark on my psyche.

"No thank you, Louis, I won't be able to eat after this," I finally replied, my voice laden with exhaustion.

The images of the dissected bodies lingered in my mind, their lifeless forms etched into my memory

I couldn't help but wonder about the lives these bodies had once led, the stories they carried within them.

"One day, we would also be like that," I said, speaking softly to myself.

"Really, you want to be used for practical anatomy?" Louis asked out loud, his voice bringing unnecessary attention to us.

I smacked him on the back "You fool that isn't what am saying"

Mrs. Scarlett, our stern but knowledgeable anatomy professor paused, looked at us then continued her lecture, oblivious to the emotional turmoil brewing within us.

Finally, the class came to an end, and we gathered our belongings, ready to move on from the haunting experience. As I packed my bag, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled deep within me.

Louis, always the optimistic one, tried to lighten the mood.

"Gianni baby, let's go watch some comedy to relax our minds," Louis suggested.

"I appreciate the offer Louis, but I really need to get to the hospital," I replied, my tone laced with a hint of regret and Louis pouted playfully.

"Come on, Gianni baby, just one evening to unwind. It'll do wonders for your mood, I promise," I couldn't help but smile at his persistence.

"I know you mean well, Louis, but I have to visit my brother, I promise we'll find another time to relax and enjoy ourselves," I explained, my voice firm but appreciative while he grinned, his eyes sparkling with understanding.

"Alright, I'll hold you to that promise, Giann," I smiled.

"Let me drop you off since it's already getting late," He suggested

"Louis, it's okay, you aren't even going in that direction," I said to him.

"Doesn't matter, let's go." He held my hands as we walked to his car.

As we approached his white sporty Lexus, my eyes couldn't help but be drawn to its sleek design. I had always admired Louis' choice of cars and the way he changed his cars the way he changed his clothes.

I climbed into the passenger seat, feeling the comfortable leather embrace me. Louis settled into the driver's seat, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. He turned to me, his eyes gleaming with playful anticipation.

"What song do we play?" he asked, knowing well that I had a penchant for catchy tunes.

I pondered for a moment, scanning through my mental playlist. Then, with a mischievous grin of my own, I suggested,

"How about 'Run' by BTS?"

Louis recoiled dramatically, pretending to be appalled.

"No way, Gianni! Not in my car," he exclaimed, feigning disgust at my choice of song. I couldn't help but burst into laughter at his exaggerated reaction.

I playfully smacked him on the head, enjoying the banter between us.

"Come on, it's a great song!"

Louis's face contorted into an exaggerated expression of disgust again. "No, No way, those Korean boys," he exclaimed, playfully pretending to gag.

I couldn't resist smacking him on the shoulder in response.

"They have names, you know. Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook," I listed their names, emphasizing each one.

Louis rubbed his head with a mock hurt expression.

"Alright, alright, I get it. You're a fan," he said, rolling his eyes playfully.

I laughed, shaking my head at his antics, "You don't know what you're missing. BTS has some incredible music, and 'Run' is one of their best."

He chuckled, conceding defeat. "Fine, fine. For you, I'll tolerate it. But only this once!".

I smiled, appreciating his willingness to accommodate my choice. With a satisfied smile, I settled back into my seat as Louis navigated the car onto the road.

With a flick of his fingers, the car's sound system came to life and Louis turned on the AC for our comfort.

Louis was driving when a message appeared on his car screen, I read it and bit my lips, "Why don't you drop me off here and attend to your matter?" I suggested.

"I will drop you off first before I attend to it," Louis continued driving without glancing at me.

The message was from Louis' father and I didn't want to stop him from attending to his father.

"Please," I pleaded, Louis Park at the side of the road and handed me his credit card.

I raised my eyebrows, "this is the only way I can let you go this late."

"Okay, thanks," I smiled and came down from the car and waved at him.

It was dark and there wasn't any cab on the road so I just decided to walk to the hospital, I plugged in my headset and selected a soothing melody to accompany me when I heard a strange noise.
