Chapter 52

Elara's Pov

"How did you get this, Nicole?" That was the first thing I said.

The jade burned in my palm. How did she know I needed this?

She shrugged, rising to her feet. After you were dragged out, I overheard the servant cleaning speaking of the jade, so I took it.

I nodded slowly. Just staring at the ring. Avery was dead now and when Cassian wakes up I would be accused of her death and executed. This was the only opportunity I had.

After you were dragged out, I overheard the servant cleaning speaking of the jade, so I took it.I nodded slowly. Just staring at the ring. Avery was dead now and when Cassian wakes up I would be accused of her death and executed. This was the only opportunity I had.Strange voices whispered in my head, urging me to go.I pressed the ring to my chest and the human world flashed behind my eyes. But if I go there, I wouldn't be able to return back to this world.I was still in thoughts, Nicole stood in the corner, staring at me. I averted her gaze. I didn't feel comfortable about her staring at me that way. There was something off about her… and I noticed it since the death of the healer. Then a child screamed from above. I turned to face Nicole immediately. Something was happening. I knew that for sure. The

Chapter 51Elara's PovAvery's eyes went wide. Her mouth opened. No words came out. Her hands flew to her neck, gripping the arrow shaft. Blood poured between her fingers, and slowly, she shifted into her wolf form. The room exploded with screams, and chairs scraping. Guards were shouting and the wolves were lunging from their seats."Grand Luna!" Someone yelled…but it sounded distorted in my ears."Someone call a healer!" It was pure chaos."Get the doors!" I still couldn't move. This would have been an opportunity to slip out, find the jade ring or Rowan and leave, but I couldn't.My eyes just remained on Avery as she dropped to her knees. Then her chest hit the floor, accompanied by her face with a thud that echoed through the chamber. She wasn't moving, but her eyes were still open. My father told me… anyone who died with their eyes open was a wicked person and they really deserved death.Kyle stumbled backwards, his scroll falling from his hands. Beatrice screamed and pointed at

Chapter 50 Elara's PovDespite the darkness in the room, I saw his eyes. Something flashed across them. It looked like terror. The Rowan I knew was never afraid, so why now? He stumbled backwards, muttering some words under his breath.I struggled to my feet, but the chains were too heavy for me."What's wrong?" I managed to mutter. He shook his head, but didn't say a word."You are scaring me."In a second, he regained his composure and walked up to me."I'm sorry. I just got overwhelmed." He smoothed out my hair again and this time, Riley whined."Rowan, what are you hiding? What are you not telling me? Have you known Seris was Calliope? Is that why you tried so hard to get me out of Cassian's life?""No." His voice was different now."Then what?"He looked at the door. Then back at me. His jaw tightened."Because I saw her die."The words hit me like a fist. I stumbled backwards."What?""Calliope. I saw her body. I touched her cold hands. I watched them lower her into the ground.

Chapter 49 Elara's PovWhen I stepped outside my Villa. The wolves had already lined the walls, wolves from the pack and others, waiting. Rumours spread so fast because what the hell was this. Some stared at me with pity and others with hate, the others had a straight face. I couldn't bear to see their faces and left my head bowed."Is that the Luna?" The voices came from the crowd."She's the one who killed the pup, the woman who was supposed to protect the pack was killing them.""I heard she poisoned the Alpha too." The whispers followed us. It was so exhausting that I kept my head up and my back straight. My hands were cuffed behind me. I wasn't going to let them see me break.Nicole followed, crying behind me. She begged the guards."Please, let me stay with her. Just for a minute. Please…"One of the guards shoved her back. "No visitors. Grand Luna's orders.""Luna!" Nicole screamed. "Luna, I'm sorry!"I didn't turn around. I knew myself . If I turned, I would cry, and if I cri

Chapter 48 Elara's PovRowan stood in the gap, snow swirling around him like ashes from a fire. This year, the cold was more. His eyes found the blood first. Then the healer's body and slowly, at me.He paused when he saw the blood and slowly looked up at the Elders. His face went pale and quiet. Then he turned back to me. Adrian's men were about to take me out of the room."Step away from the Luna." Rowan said slowly."Rowan…" Adrian called, drawing his sword."You can't be in this chamber, this is trespassing…""Step. Away." Rowan's voice was quiet and that made it worse. Adrian's sword trembled, but Rowan didn't blink.Lord Kyle turned. "This is Silver Crest business, Alpha Rowan. You have no jurisdiction here and the Luna is guilty.""I have every business. Elara is my friend. And she's innocent." He walked toward me. "I'm taking her.""She's under arrest…"Rowan pulled out his phone. "I have your secrets and evil deeds on here, Lord Kyle, you don't want to know what it would do

Chapter 47Elara's Pov“Ambushed by who?" I swallowed. Another issue. My outfit, now covered in Cassian's blood.“I couldn't tell who they were, Beta Adrian, but they moved around like shadows. I couldn't see them or make them out, no matter how hard I tried.” The vial dropped from my hands. The Shadow Packs… they were here. I knew it, from the human world. And their presence always announced war. It meant war was coming. They hardly ever waged war. If they did, it only meant something that belonged to them was here. My eyes fell on the jade ring. Was this the reason they were after me? A girl gifted me this ring sixteen years ago, during the first war with them. Had she stolen it or picked it up?My eyes met Adrian's scrutinizing gaze, but I looked away immediately. Yet he still walked toward me. I was forced to look at him, and now his face was pale."Luna, if the Shadow Pack is involved, I believe they're not here for Cassian."I stared at him and gulped, like I didn't know. "Then
