DAVINA

The street was quiet, bathed in the cold light of the morning sun. The wind swept past us like a ghostly whisper, but all I could feel was the warmth of Pryia’s body against mine. My arms clung to her tightly, as if trying to fuse her to me, as if I could keep her safe just by holding her. My chest heaved with uncontrolled sobs, and every hot tear streaming down my face was a silent thank-you to God for bringing her back.

“I thought I’d never see you again,” I murmured through my tears, burying my face in her shoulder.

“I’m sorry, Davina. I’m so sorry,” she choked out, her voice trembling with regret. “I was stupid. So stupid…”

Her body was shaking too, and not just from the cold. Her words pierced my chest, and I wanted to say it didn’t matter, that everything was okay now—but the words got lost in the knot in my throat. All I could do was hold her as tightly as I could.

That’s when I lifted my eyes for a moment—and met his.

The man who brought her back.

DAVINAI stood still, eyes fixed on Timmy, Aaron, and Midnight, not letting a single movement go unnoticed. Each of them seemed to avoid my gaze, but I could feel the tension growing in the air. They had brought me back here, like tossing me back into a prison I had fought to escape. I couldn't buy the story they were trying to sell. Something was wrong, and I wouldn’t rest until I found out what it was.“Who were those men?” I asked, my voice colder than the surrounding night.Timmy avoided my eyes, frowning, a mixture of discomfort and guilt painted across his face. Aaron exchanged a quick look with Midnight, both of them appearing even more uneasy. The silence that followed was far too heavy, like they were hiding something.

DAVINABoredom was a beast gnawing at my brain. It chewed away at every ounce of my patience as I twirled the ring on my finger, sitting on the sofa in Midnight's house. The dim light from the lamp flickered from time to time, as if even it was tired of this place. The city was still in turmoil since the death of KJ and the leader of the Reapers, and Midnight had been under attack from all sides. Every gang wanted a piece of the territory, which meant he was more paranoid than ever. Gutemberg was also tense, always with his cell phone in his hand, speaking softly or typing messages nonstop. But now that KJ was out of the picture, I shouldn't have to hide anymore. And so I decided: I was going to see my mother.I didn't intend to talk to her, I just wanted to look from afar, to make sure she was okay. Timmy insisted that she was, but trust wasn't my strong suit. I needed to see with my own eyes.

DAVINAAaron’s eyes, always observant, slid from Timmy to me, that unreadable smile playing on his lips.“I hope I’m not interrupting,” he said, though his tone suggested otherwise.“What are you two scheming?” I asked, craning my neck to look at him, trying to sound like I had control of the situation.Timmy let out a low chuckle, still leaning casually against the wall. But there was something else in the way he looked at Aaron—something unspoken, full of meaning.“So… why did you call him here?” I asked Timmy, raising an eyebrow, still suspicious.Aaron just smiled. That kind of smile

DAVINAI stood in front of the large mirror in Midnight’s room, my eyes wandering over the piles of clothes scattered across the bed. The new clothes Vincent had bought me were beautiful, way more than I ever could’ve imagined. He’d definitely overdone it. Still, my mind was elsewhere. I was thinking about Pryia, and what Lucia had said about her when I was still locked up in that place. She spoke like she knew some secret about my sister. She always hinted that I didn’t really know who Pryia was, that maybe she wasn’t the victim I believed her to be. But what did that even mean? The ache of missing them tightened in my chest. I needed to see them. I needed to talk to my mom, and to Pryia, too. Now that things with the guys were starting to settle down, the feeling that something was m

DAVINAI walked down the stairs slowly, feeling the cold of the railing under my fingers. Each step echoed inside me like a racing drum, driven by anxiety and fear. Midnight was still in the shower, and Aaron had finally given up pounding on the door to find out what was going on. Now, all that was left was to face my men. Were they still mine? Did they wait for me? Did they miss me?Gutemberg said they did, but I didn’t fully trust him. The time I spent away felt like an eternity. And the worst part? Timmy and I had fought before I disappeared. The reason? I couldn’t even remember anymore, because it stopped mattering the moment I found myself alone without any of them. It all felt so insignificant compared to what I went through, the longing that ate me alive.

DAVINAI woke up slowly, my eyes opening with reluctance, as if reality was something to be avoided. The warmth surrounding me made me realize where I was. My body was pressed against someone’s, thick, almost awkward heat enveloping me. I was lying on my side, and his arms were wrapped tightly around me.I lifted my head, wiping my eyes with the back of my hand. It was Midnight!Holy shit. How did this happen?I went to sleep alone. And now somehow, I was in his arms? Me, Davina, spooning with one of the most dangerous men in New Jersey. Oh sweet mother of confused virgins. What had I become? First Vincent, and now Midnight? The shock hit m
