Arrogant Billionaire

"Good morning, Mr. Reighs." She welcomed him on board with a smile, and he responded with a smug, taunting smirk.

"What a pleasant surprise, Captain! I was hoping Sage would have returned by now!" Ophelia wanted to punch him in the face, but she kept her cool and responded with another false courteous smile, "I guess he's not well enough to fly yet."

"Very well, even though he isn't here, I know I'm in good hands." His voice was rich as he gave her a curt nod and with a wink he ascended the stairs into the aircraft, accompanied by his bodyguards and secretary.

She followed them in and settled in the flight deck as they settled into their seats. Dallas looked at her with trepidation as she sat down and buckled her seatbelt. With one look, he knew she could kill someone at that moment, so he remained silent.

"Crew, please prepare for takeoff." She said curtly, and they were soon in the air, flying to Belgium.

The wing engine is semi-illuminated from the plane's window, with the lower half gleaming around the rim and the upper half several shades darker. As the plane moves, the border between shade and light shifts and Ophelia listens to the sound of the rotors. After a few moments one of the flight attendants peeked into the flight deck and Ophelia glanced back.

“Mr Reighs wants to see you, Captain.” She said and Ophelia rolled her eyes. She got out of her seat and walked out of the flight deck.

“You wished to see my, Mr Reighs.” She said and Onyx looked up.

“Ah, yes, Captain. I had some questions.” He said and Ophelia could see the mischievous glint in his eyes.

“What is it sir?” She asked

“I was wondering if you could fly us away from those birds. You see I don’t want those birds to crash with my jet and I don’t know scratch it.” Ophelia felt like rolling her eyes or maybe slap him but she held on to that desire and with a professional smile she said.

“I’m certain that those birds won’t do any harm to your jet, Sir.”

“Are you sure? I have seen a bird taking down an Airbus.” He said and Ophelia’s brows frowned. ‘What is he playing at.’

“I mean I don’t want to lose my life in hands of a bird. I don’t mind dying in your arms but not in wings of a bird.” He said with a light smirk and Ophelia finally understood he only wished to annoy her. For the next couple of minutes his unnecessary question went on and by the time she returned to her flight deck, she was annoyed and mentally exhausted.

Thirty minutes into the flight, Ophelia excused herself. Dallas glanced at her as she stepped out of the flight deck, removing her blazer and draping it over her seat. She checked the crew restroom, but it was already occupied. She sighed and walked over to the other restroom for the passengers. Lilian smiled at her, and she responded with a curt nod and smile of her own. She didn't see Onyx and was relieved she didn't have to see his face.

She came to a halt in front of the restroom, about to open the door and enter, when she heard noises coming from the small bedroom on the deck. Her brow furrowed as she strained to hear what that noise was. As the pants, grunts, and groans became louder, her face contoured with disdain. The sound of human flesh colliding with human flesh fills her ears, as does the sound of sulking.

"Jerk!" She mumbled and rolled her eyes as she entered the restroom.

She exited the restroom and locked it; she turned around, and the bedroom door opened. The flight attendant was taken aback when she saw her and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. As the flight attendant opened and closed her mouth to say something, while Ophelia stared at her with cold eyes, "I-I'm sorry Captain..." she began to apologize but was cut off when Ophelia raised her hand.

"I'm not here to judge you based on your personal life or beliefs, but please be at least a little professional when you are at work." The flight attendant nodded and proceeded to walk away. Ophelia took a step towards the flight deck when she saw Onyx walking out, his face and neck flushed red. She had caught him off guard and he was somewhat surprised to see her. For a moment there she thought she had seen shame flicker across his eyes, but she only thought it to be her imagination when his eyes went cold as always, and with a smug grin he asked, "Anything I can do for you, Captain?"

"Nothing, sir. I'm heading back now." She walked away and all the way to the flight deck, she continued to feel Onyx's heated gaze on the rear of her skull.

They landed at Antwerp International Airport shortly after. Ophelia walked out of the flight deck to see the passengers off after the plane had landed perfectly and the passengers were ready to disembark. She noticed Onyx approaching the door, dressed sharply in a black suit and his hair perfectly coiffed.

"Prepare to fly to the Netherlands. We shouldn't be out of here for long." He informed whilst wearing sunglasses and fastening the button on his suit. She resisted the urge to scoff at his arrogant tone. "See you later Captain." He spoke just loud enough for her to hear and walked away towards the SUV that was waiting for him.

"Hey, Ross!" She summoned her co-pilot, who was retrieving his bag from the flight deck. "Yes, Ophelia?" He responded strolling out.

"Do you know of any places nearby?" She inquired,

"Didn't boss say it won't take them long?" His voice was laced with concern. "And you believed that? With one look at him, I'm sure they won't be back any time soon!" She stated with a grin, "I can't say I know, but we can always explore." With a cheerful smile, he suggested.

"That sounds pretty good to me!" She replied whilst donning her glasses and buttoning her blazer. With her bag in hand, they head out after the aircraft was locked and safely parked in the private lane of the airport.

"Do you believe they will be foolish enough to go against the offer?" Onyx casually inquired of Lilian, who sat alongside him in the black SUV gliding down Antwerp's streets. "I doubt it, but you can't afford to take that type of gamble. Everyone knows the company would bankrupt in less than six months." Lilian attempted to justify her point of view.

"Then I'll rebuild it over the next six months."

"But, boss..."

"There are no buts, Lilian." Onyx turned off Lilian as he yawned and gazed out the car window. It had been a couple of hours of rushing about the city, attending a number of meetings, and visiting construction sites. Even though these meetings were only scheduled last night. They got everything just right, and he couldn't be happier.

His gaze was drawn to the people walking down the blacktop street, and his vision is drawn to the blue skies, which, as it hugs the starlight, has such a mischievous aura this eventide. But, in the midst of it all, a particular figure drew his attention. It was the first time he saw her smiling, even laughing. Her aura around her was so bright that it could light up even the darkest alley. Every time he saw her, there was this phony smile and curtness. Even though she was dressed in her regular uniform and had her hair pulled up, as usual, there was something different. Something that was urging his soul. A desire to hold her, to care for her as if she were a delicate flower surrounded by thorns that would damage her. As he watched her engage with the child who seemed to be fascinated by her uniform, a smile crept across his face. She was cheerfully responding to the little girl knelt in front of her to match her height, and she laughed out loud when the man standing next to her said something, and Onyx just then noticed Dallas Ross. Ophelia lost her balance while laughing and began to fall to her right, but Ross seized her arm and pulled her up, causing her to collide with his flesh. The minute their bodies collided, a strong need to protect and tear Ross apart, away from her overwhelmed him. The car drove past them at that moment and he saw everything from close.

His jaw clenched in rage, and he did his best not to lash out and rip Ross away from her when he saw the uncomfortable and uncertain look on her face and how she snatched her arm away from his hold.

He took out his phone and looked through the contract, but he couldn't find Ophelia's phone number. Of course! He doesn't even have her phone number! Instead, he contacted the private jet's controller, "Plan on taking off in thirty minutes. I couldn't care less where the crew is! I recall telling them to be prepared to take off at any time!" He roared into the phone, and Lilian stared at him, terrified, unable to figure out what had caused his abrupt outburst. He abruptly hung up the phone and roared angrily at the driver, "Turn around, we're leaving for the Netherlands!"

Lilian wanted to question him, but the murderous look on his face silenced her.

'How could he touch her?' How dare he touch her in that way! I will see to it that you suffer, Ross!' These were the thoughts that raced through his mind as they drove to the airport.

The SUV soon came to a halt in front of the private jet, and as soon as he saw Ophelia on the steps, he sprang out of the car and stormed onto the plane, followed by Lilian and the two bodyguards. They were apprehensive and anxious. That caused Ophelia to frown in confusion.

'Perhaps someone served him the wrong water.' She pondered walking into the jet as well, preparing for take-off. They heard Onyx shouting for Ross about twenty minutes into the flight. He jumped a little in his seat when he heard Onyx's voice and dashed over to see why he was being summoned.

Ophelia yawned batting her eyelashes staring out of the window to her left when Dallas dragged his body and sat down on his seat. She asked hastily, with a concerned look on her face, "What happened? Are you all right?"

"I suppose I'll live." He muttered.

"Dallas, what happened? What exactly did he say?" She inquired angrily.

"He raged because we had left to roam around despite his instructions to do so and to be prepared. He accused me of being irresponsible for failing to heed his orders, and he couldn't even reach my cell phone when he attempted to contact me. And how he had to contact the operator in order to reach us the crew" He uttered it all in one breath, staring up ahead. Ophelia signaled for water and a flight attendant brought water for Dallas. He gulped it down, and Ophelia inquired, "Did you tell him that I requested you to accompany me?"

"I did."

"And how did he respond?"

"He said you were new and would be gone soon, but I was his permanent employee, and I had to follow through his plans effectively." Sighing, he informed, and Ophelia's blood boiled with rage. "That arrogant bastard! Who does he think he is to treat you in this manner?" She exclaimed,

"It's all right, please calm down, Ophelia," With a hesitant smile, he tried to soothe her down, and after a few attempts, she calmed down.

Onyx stormed away again when they landed in Amsterdam, while Ophelia and the crew hung around at the airport. Onyx had returned a few hours later, and they were once again in the air, on their way to France.

This has been going on for a week, nonstop flights to various countries and cities. Over the course of a week, she had spent the night in seven different countries. Her vacation was over, and while she was meant to be back at work as a commercial pilot, her airline had shown no sign of calling her back. She was becoming increasingly annoyed and enraged with Onyx and her airline.

She tossed and turned in her bed in the opulent hotel suite in Luxembourg. Throughout the week, she had stayed in a number of lavish hotels. Her sleep had been disrupted by the various time zones. She rolled out of bed and made her way to the balcony. As the late summer wind blew over her, blowing her hair in the wind and causing a chill to run down her spine. She looked up at the sky, watching the clouds cover the black canvas, hiding the full moon and the shining stars. Even though it was summer but the nights were chilly. While she would have preferred to spend these frigid days in Hawaii basking in the sun, fate had drawn her to the unknown cold city of Luxembourg.

It felt so serene in the quiet night, with nothing but the soft wind to be felt and heard. She looked down at the grassy lawn, and a particular strolling figure drew the entirety of her attention. Onyx Reighs was out on the grassy lawn, his hands tucked inside his slacks and nothing but a black tee covering his body. He walked aimlessly and all she could think was, "Doesn't he feel cold?" She was dressed in a pajama, a jumper, and the duvet was wrapped around her as well. But what was she talking about, she had always been sensitive to the cold. That's why, throughout the winter, she would always flee to the warmest cities.

When the clouds scurried away, revealing the brilliant moon, she noticed Onyx looking up at the sky. She could only stare at him as the moonlight enhanced his sharp, stunning features. Making him appear even more attractive if that was even possible. She was captivated by the beauty of his browns as they twinkled in the dazzling moonlight, and in the smile that graced his face. She had no idea how long she had been staring at him, but when he felt the heat of her gaze, his eyes turned towards where she was standing. She ducked down quickly to avoid his prying eyes. Her heart throbbed in her chest as she hid from the male. She glanced over to see whether he was still there, but disappointment washed over her when she saw he was gone. Her eyes sought for him, and she's not sure why she wished to catch another glimpse of him. But he'd already fled within the confines of his chamber. She, too, stepped inside and climbed onto her bed, gently drifting off to sleep as those browns consumed her thoughts.
