Veronica’s POV
Logan’s chest raised and fell as he took a big breath before speaking, “If it such a big issue, that it was worth wanting to hit the maid, maybe…” He looked around thinking what to say, “Maybe you should go and get the correct wine, seeing that the maid is incompetent.”
“Wait… What?”
“Maybe you should show sincerity and go to the wine cellar and get the wine.”
“Alpha-“
“Now.”
“But, I… You can’t be serious.”
“I’m dead serious. Now, be a loyal mutt and go and get the wine.”
Marcus's gaze met mine. I quickly looked away before I stepped on any more toes. With a growl he stepped away, as he passed me he kept his gaze on me. With my eyes fixed on the ground, I saw that Alpha Logan turned around to face me. My heart started to beat faster.
“Maid. Well, I don’t believe that is your name. What is your name?”
“I’m…” I replied softly.
“You need to speak up. And you need to speak full sentences.”
“I’m Veronica.” My voice was still soft but loud enough for him to hear.
“Veronica.” He nodded, “So, Veronica, tell me how old are you?”
“I’m… Um… I just turned eighteen…”
“When?”
“When what Alpha?”
“When did you turn eighteen?”
“Well… Um… Today.”
I looked up and then saw the confusion on his face. Then our eyes met, he had the most beautiful ocean-blue eyes. When staring into his eyes it felt as if I was fading away. Like I was swimming in the ocean itself.
“Today. Interesting. Tell me little one, what is the story between you and that arrogant man?”
“Well, um. He… Is… Kind of my…” I looked down, unable to look him in his eyes, and whispered, “Step-brother.”
“Your what?”
“Step-brother.” My voice got a little bit more audible.
“And he fucking tears you like that? Like fucking trash? How dare you stand for that?”
I closed my eyes. Scared he might raise his hands to me. Then I heard him sigh, slowly I opened my eyes. Slowly lifting my gaze, he placed his hand on his face and shook it. A loud growl came from behind me, as I turned around I saw Marcus standing behind me. His face was blood red from anger.
“Fall to your fucking knees mutt!”
“But…”
“Drop! And apologise to the Alpha this instant, you have only caused trouble the entire night.”
I nodded and started to make my way to my knees, but before I could reach the ground I felt a hand grabbing my arm. Shocked, I didn’t say a word and didn’t move. I stood rock solid.
“Marcus, I thought we were here to talk business. Seeing that Alpha Ethan couldn’t make it. But now you're only causing a scene. At this moment I’m starting to wonder why I even came here.”
“Alpha. I apologise, but if it wasn’t for this maid. Think she can leave now so that we can continue our discussion of earlier.”
“Beta, I don’t think you are taking this situation seriously. I think it would be best if I just leave.”
“Please! I mean, please, Alpha Ethan sent me to make sure that our packs would still be in alliance with each other. Please, I can’t mess this up.”
“Then tell me what are you going to do? What do you offer me to keep my pack protected?”
The tension was building between them. I wanted to leave to let them talk in private but Logan’s hand was still gripping my arm. Keeping my gaze fixed to the floor I heard my brother say my name, “Veronica.” I looked up in shock. Why did he just say my name? I did nothing but stand here, “Our pack will give you Veronica.” My eyes widened because of his words.
“What?” The word escaped my mouth louder than I had planned.
“Shut up.” Marcus looked at me with anger.
“Go on.” Logan said, his interest peaked.
“Our pack offers you Veronica as payment.”
“Marcus, you can’t do this to me. Please.” I begged.
He pulled me closer and whispered in my ear, “You are nothing to this pack. If you want to mean something you will go with him. Willingly. You will be the only thing that can protect our pack. Got it?”
I nodded in agreement. My breaths started to get louder with each passing minute. How can they do this to me? What would my father say if he found out what Marcus was doing? Maybe he wouldn’t even notice that I was gone. Maybe this would be for the best.
“You got yourself a deal, Beta. Veronica for the safety of your pack.” Logan said as he extended his hand for the closing of the deal.
“Thank you, Alpha. Alpha Ethan will be pleased to hear that our pack still has you and you people to help keep our pack safe.” Their hands met for a handshake.
Tears started to fill my eyes. First I was a useless mutt and now I’m some consolation prize. My eyes fell to the floor. Then Mia’s voice echoed through my ears, “Veronica. How dare you stand here next to the Alpha?”
“Don’t speak to her that way.”
“But Alpha, she needs to get back to work.”
“I don’t think so. She isn’t yours anymore. You’re not allowed to tell her what to do anymore.”
“What? Marcus, what is he talking about?”
Veronica’s POVI watched as Logan walked away. My fingers nervously tapped on my lap, trying to calm myself, trying not to feel nervous and anxious. The thought of being in a place like this, it felt wrong, I felt so exposed. The chandeliers that cast a golden light that felt too warm, too suffocating. My heart started pounding as my eyes scanned around the room. I could feel the judgemental stares from some of the people here. The way they whispered behind their hands. I knew their whispers were about me, a rogue, an outsider. Someone who wasn’t worthy of being with the Alpha. And no matter how hard I tried to push it aside, to ignore them as I was told by Logan, I could help but feel like I didn’t belong here.Logan’s words played in the back of my mind, ‘You belong here. With me.’ But no matter how much I wanted to believe it, my mind didn’t allow me to. I was starting to feel like I was standing on the edge of something fragile, ready to break at any moment. Suddenly, the chair ac
Logan’s POVI stood at the bottom of the stairs, the whispers of my pack surrounded me like a background noise. Normally, I wouldn’t be fazed by their presence, but tonight was different. My focus was on her, and only her. Tonight was the night that I would show her what she meant to me, this wasn’t just any normal night out. She belonged here, belonged here with me. By my side as my Luna, no matter what anyone thought. The second I sent that dress to her room, I knew she would look stunning in it. There was no doubt about that. I knew Veronica was still trying to figure out who she was, still clinging to her past that had her scarred. But the woman I saw wasn’t a rogue, wasn’t someone broken. She was powerful, fierce, and despite everything she’d been through, there was something that made her… Mine.My wolf growled in approval as I saw her descending from the stairs. Her heels clicked against the floor. It was like my breathing had stopped, my heart pounded intensely as she was now
Veronica’s POVReaching the hallway leading to my room, my thoughts were still focused on the events of that day. But something was different… I was different. Everything that I saw, I saw differently, every sound, then I pushed open the door leading to my room, a strange sight greeted me. A black dress laid carefully on my bed, next to it was a note with beautiful, elegant handwriting.I slowly made my way closer to it, picking up the note, then I started reading: “I’m proud of you. Wear this tonight. I can’t wait to see you. - Logan”My heart skipped a beat as I read the note. His way of stating this always makes me fluster. His powerful, commanding tone. It made the note feel more personal than it should be. But the idea of him being proud of me, no one had ever been proud of me except for my mom. I set the note down and turned my attention to the dress. It was stunning. The fabric shimmered under the light that shone through the window. Picking up the dress, I made my way over t
Veronica’s POVAfter breakfast I made my way to the training grounds where Grace was waiting for me. My emotions were all over the place, I have never shifted into my wolf form. Anticipation and nerves were swirling in my stomach. The sun had made its way out of the clouds making the ground heat up and allowing the heat to attack my face. The sound of warriors sparring in the distance. The air smelled of earth and sweat, the smell of hard work. Grace stood on one of the platforms, her expression was serious, but I could see a hint of excitement. “Are you ready?” She asked as I approached her.Taking a big breath then nodded, “Do I have a choice?”She giggled slightly, then motioned for me to climb onto the platform. The space was made sure that no one can hurt one another when practising. There was a big tree casting a shadow over us. “Okay. So, turning into a wolf can be very overwhelming. Especially when it is your first time. With time it gets easier, but the first transition is c
Veronica’s POVThe sunlight slowly shone through the curtains, waking me up gently. I stretched, feeling that Logan was still lying close beside me, and I smiled. I sat upright, then quietly made my way to the bathroom. My muscles were sore in the best way, a reminder of the intense and wonderful night we had shared. It didn’t feel real, it felt like it was a dream that I was about to wake up from. I turned on the shower allowing the water to heat up. As the water warmed up, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, my hair was a mess. And the thought of Logan’s touch made my skin tingle once more. I traced my finger over my collarbone, remembering the way his lips moved over my body. Stepping into the shower, allowing the hot water to flow over me. The steam of the water covered the bathroom, making it difficult to see. Then I heard the door of the shower open and I turned around to find Logan standing in the doorway. Naked. “Is there space for one more?” He asked with a grin th
Veronica’s POVI stood there, barely able to breathe as Logan’s thumb brushed against my cheek. His touch, it was warm and comforting, gentle, shockwaves flowed through my body. My heart raced rapidly, making me warm up. If it wasn’t for the cold night breeze blowing through the open window I think I might pass out. “Logan.” I whispered, trying to find words. The pull between us, what was happening? It was like I wanted him, but I was afraid. It felt like the entire world was standing still but our breaths were indicating that it wasn’t.His eyes still locked with mine, I was both terrified and excited. With every encounter that we had, the pull hadn’t been so intense as it is now. I wanted and needed him, and I needed him now more than ever. “Everything… It… Feels different. I can’t stop feeling you. Your heartbeat, your breathing. When you’re not here it feels like you are.” I admitted, my gaze fell to his lips. His right hand fell to my waist, and his other hand still cupped my f
