Veronica’s POV
Another year had passed. I had aged by one year. But yet no one seems to care. I had always been the outcast in my pack. Never been able to fit in anywhere. They have always called me a rouge, a disappointment, even a disgrace. My life has always been horrible. A life full of hurtful words, which cut deeper than any sword that I have ever polished.
Celebrating my eighteenth birthday working in a kitchen, rather than partying with the rest of the pack. Well, what else is expected from a rogue? I was ordered to work in this dirty kitchen to help prepare the food and drinks for Ellie and Kyle's engagement. Ellie is one of the biggest Alpha’s daughters.
Can’t believe anyone would want to marry her. Besides her beauty, she is a horrible person. She scolds anyone who just looks at her funny. To think anyone can love someone like her. But in Kyle’s defence, he will be in line for the throne when Alpha Alexander needs to step down. Kyle would then be the Alpha of the biggest packs in the world. So, who wouldn’t mind marrying a bitch?
“Veronica! Stop daydreaming!”
A voice made me startle, making me drop the glass I was cleaning, “Mother... I was…”
“You were not doing your job! That is what you were doing. And don’t fucking call me that. Clean up that mess that you caused and go to the study and get the fine wine off the top rake.” She stared at me, her face red with anger. “Rouge! Do what you are told. Now!”
“Yes ma’am. Of course ma’am.”
With speed, I grabbed the broom and started cleaning up the glass. “You’re fucking useless. Give me that.” She grabbed the broom from my hands and stuffed it into one of the other maid's hands. “Just go get the fucking wine. Hopefully, you can’t mess up that single task.”
I nodded and made my way to the study.
As I reached the wine cellar my steps got softer with each step. Then I came to a stop. Staring at the door leading to the cellar, my breaths got audible. My heart started to beat faster. I had never set foot in the cellar before. I didn’t even know what wine to look for. My hand shook as I reached for the door handle. The sound of the door opening echoed through the room.
When entering I made my way to a shelf. Staring at what looked like a hundred bottles. Each one is stacked neatly, laying in the correct position, ensuring the cork is always wet. Trying to remember which shelf I should take a bottle from, I heard my name echoing through the hallway. I grabbed the first bottle I set my hand on and made my way to the kitchen.
“What took you so long?”
“I… I…”
“Take this tray and go give it to Alpha Logan.”
“What? I…” Confusion was written all over my face. It was impossible to hide it. I was never allowed to show my face to the guests. Why now? Why all of a sudden am I now allowed to show my face?
“Did I stutter? Just do as you are told. Take… the… wine… to… the… Alpha.”
Shaking my head in disbelief. Grabbing the tray I made my way to the study, where voices were echoing through the room. As soon as I stepped through the door, it was like the room went silent. I felt all eyes were on me. Keeping my head down, ensuring I didn’t disrespect any of the wolves in the room, especially the Alpha’s.
I made my way over to Alpha Logan and to someone who looked like he was one of his family members. Presenting the wine to them, I could feel the anger in their stare. Slowly I lifted my gaze and saw Alpha Logan's disappointment towards me.
“This can’t be the correct wine that you are presenting to me.”
“I…”
“This maid must have made a mistake. How dare you prepare this cheap wine for the Alpha? Are you stupid or something?”
“Marcus…”
“No! How can anyone be so incompetent to do something like this?” His gaze fixed on me. “Did your parents drop you on your head when you were a baby?”
“I…”
“Of course they did. How else do you explain your incompetence? Mm? Of course, now the bitch is mute as well. No wonder you’re a fucking maid. You’re a mistake to humanity.”
If the entire party's eyes weren’t on me before, they were definitely at that moment. I tried to contain my breathing, but that was hard to do. I was used to people yelling and scolding me, but it hit harder somehow with him. Tears started to fill my eyes.
“Is the mute going to cry? Well, maybe I should give you something to cry about!” He lifted his hand into the air. I closed my eyes, knowing what was about to happen. I waited for the punch that might make me end up in the hospital. But, it never came. With a deep breath, I slowly opened my eyes and looked straight into the Alpha’s back.
Why would he save me from something that I deserve? Why did he choose to help me? I was expecting to be lying on the floor, most likely bleeding. But, that didn’t happen. A person with a reputation for being a ruthless and careless person decided to help me. Save me from a trip to the ER.
“Enough! You will stop this animal behavior in this instance!”
I could see his grip tighten around Marcus’s wrist. You could see the pain in Marcus’s eyes. He then ripped his arm loose from Logan’s grip. He quickly lifted his left hand and massaged his wrist where a red handprint started to appear. Anger filled his eyes, he shook his head before he spoke.
“But Alpha, she-“
“But fucking nothing! You will not lay a single hand on her.”
“She’s a fucking maid. She is nothing important. She is just a useless mutt?”
“Silence…” Anger started to fill his tone.
Veronica’s POVI watched as Logan walked away. My fingers nervously tapped on my lap, trying to calm myself, trying not to feel nervous and anxious. The thought of being in a place like this, it felt wrong, I felt so exposed. The chandeliers that cast a golden light that felt too warm, too suffocating. My heart started pounding as my eyes scanned around the room. I could feel the judgemental stares from some of the people here. The way they whispered behind their hands. I knew their whispers were about me, a rogue, an outsider. Someone who wasn’t worthy of being with the Alpha. And no matter how hard I tried to push it aside, to ignore them as I was told by Logan, I could help but feel like I didn’t belong here.Logan’s words played in the back of my mind, ‘You belong here. With me.’ But no matter how much I wanted to believe it, my mind didn’t allow me to. I was starting to feel like I was standing on the edge of something fragile, ready to break at any moment. Suddenly, the chair ac
Logan’s POVI stood at the bottom of the stairs, the whispers of my pack surrounded me like a background noise. Normally, I wouldn’t be fazed by their presence, but tonight was different. My focus was on her, and only her. Tonight was the night that I would show her what she meant to me, this wasn’t just any normal night out. She belonged here, belonged here with me. By my side as my Luna, no matter what anyone thought. The second I sent that dress to her room, I knew she would look stunning in it. There was no doubt about that. I knew Veronica was still trying to figure out who she was, still clinging to her past that had her scarred. But the woman I saw wasn’t a rogue, wasn’t someone broken. She was powerful, fierce, and despite everything she’d been through, there was something that made her… Mine.My wolf growled in approval as I saw her descending from the stairs. Her heels clicked against the floor. It was like my breathing had stopped, my heart pounded intensely as she was now
Veronica’s POVReaching the hallway leading to my room, my thoughts were still focused on the events of that day. But something was different… I was different. Everything that I saw, I saw differently, every sound, then I pushed open the door leading to my room, a strange sight greeted me. A black dress laid carefully on my bed, next to it was a note with beautiful, elegant handwriting.I slowly made my way closer to it, picking up the note, then I started reading: “I’m proud of you. Wear this tonight. I can’t wait to see you. - Logan”My heart skipped a beat as I read the note. His way of stating this always makes me fluster. His powerful, commanding tone. It made the note feel more personal than it should be. But the idea of him being proud of me, no one had ever been proud of me except for my mom. I set the note down and turned my attention to the dress. It was stunning. The fabric shimmered under the light that shone through the window. Picking up the dress, I made my way over t
Veronica’s POVAfter breakfast I made my way to the training grounds where Grace was waiting for me. My emotions were all over the place, I have never shifted into my wolf form. Anticipation and nerves were swirling in my stomach. The sun had made its way out of the clouds making the ground heat up and allowing the heat to attack my face. The sound of warriors sparring in the distance. The air smelled of earth and sweat, the smell of hard work. Grace stood on one of the platforms, her expression was serious, but I could see a hint of excitement. “Are you ready?” She asked as I approached her.Taking a big breath then nodded, “Do I have a choice?”She giggled slightly, then motioned for me to climb onto the platform. The space was made sure that no one can hurt one another when practising. There was a big tree casting a shadow over us. “Okay. So, turning into a wolf can be very overwhelming. Especially when it is your first time. With time it gets easier, but the first transition is c
Veronica’s POVThe sunlight slowly shone through the curtains, waking me up gently. I stretched, feeling that Logan was still lying close beside me, and I smiled. I sat upright, then quietly made my way to the bathroom. My muscles were sore in the best way, a reminder of the intense and wonderful night we had shared. It didn’t feel real, it felt like it was a dream that I was about to wake up from. I turned on the shower allowing the water to heat up. As the water warmed up, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, my hair was a mess. And the thought of Logan’s touch made my skin tingle once more. I traced my finger over my collarbone, remembering the way his lips moved over my body. Stepping into the shower, allowing the hot water to flow over me. The steam of the water covered the bathroom, making it difficult to see. Then I heard the door of the shower open and I turned around to find Logan standing in the doorway. Naked. “Is there space for one more?” He asked with a grin th
Veronica’s POVI stood there, barely able to breathe as Logan’s thumb brushed against my cheek. His touch, it was warm and comforting, gentle, shockwaves flowed through my body. My heart raced rapidly, making me warm up. If it wasn’t for the cold night breeze blowing through the open window I think I might pass out. “Logan.” I whispered, trying to find words. The pull between us, what was happening? It was like I wanted him, but I was afraid. It felt like the entire world was standing still but our breaths were indicating that it wasn’t.His eyes still locked with mine, I was both terrified and excited. With every encounter that we had, the pull hadn’t been so intense as it is now. I wanted and needed him, and I needed him now more than ever. “Everything… It… Feels different. I can’t stop feeling you. Your heartbeat, your breathing. When you’re not here it feels like you are.” I admitted, my gaze fell to his lips. His right hand fell to my waist, and his other hand still cupped my f
