"Sign it. You were never meant to wear my ring, Elena." As the daughter of a fallen Mafia boss, Elena knew her arranged marriage to Alexander—billionaire CEO and supreme Lycan Alpha King—was purely political. For three agonizing years, she endured his freezing neglect and the cruel schemes of his pack, holding onto the secret that she was carrying his true heir. Then came the night of the fire. Trapped in a burning warehouse by a rival syndicate, Elena begged her husband to save her. Instead, Alexander chose to rescue his childhood sweetheart, leaving Elena to burn. He thought she perished in the flames. His wolf howled in a bond-snapped agony he deserved. But Elena didn't die. Five years later, she walks back into the city's most exclusive billionaire gala—not as a submissive omega, but as the ruthless Queen of the underground Mafia, draped over the arm of Alexander’s deadliest corporate and Lycan rival, Nikolai. When Alexander catches her scent and sees his "dead" wife alive, his world shatters. He wants her back. He demands her return. But this time, Elena won't just walk away—she will make the billionaire King drop to his knees, strip his pride away piece by piece, and crawl through the very ashes he left her in.

Chapter 1: The Ash and the Crown

The smell of premium gasoline and melting rubber was suffocating.

Elena lunged against the heavy iron chains binding her wrists to the warehouse pillar, her throat raw from screaming. The skin on her wrists rubbed bloody against the metal, but she barely felt it. Her hands flew down instinctively, shielding her flat stomach.

Three weeks. She was only three weeks pregnant. Alexander didn’t know. Nobody knew. And if she didn’t get out of this burning industrial tomb in the next five minutes, he would never find out.

The warehouse roof groaned overhead, spitting a shower of orange sparks into the dark air. Across the blazing concrete floor, tied to an identical pillar, was Cynthia Vance.

"Alexander will come for me!" Cynthia screamed through her fake tears, though her voice lacked any real terror. Even in the middle of a Mafia ambush, Cynthia looked like a pristine high-society princess. "He will kill every last one of your father’s rogue men, Elena! He loves me!"

"Shut up, Cynthia!" Elena choked out, coughing violently as black smoke filled her lungs.

Elena’s father had been the city’s underground Mafia don until he was betrayed and killed a year ago. Alexander Vance—billionaire tech mogul by day, ruthless Lycan Alpha King by night—had married Elena purely to absorb her father’s territory and keep her family’s remaining syndicates under his thumb. For three years, Elena had been nothing but a ghost in his penthouse. A political hostage. An unloved omega wife.

Suddenly, the reinforced steel doors of the warehouse blew inward with a deafening crash.

Through the roaring wall of fire walked Alexander.

Even in the chaos, he looked terrifyingly god-like. He wore a tailored charcoal-grey Tom Ford suit, his tie cast aside, his crisp white shirt stained with soot and the blood of the guards he had torn apart outside. His amber eyes glowed with fierce, lethal Lycan energy. Behind him, a dozen heavily armed men from his corporate security team flooded the perimeter.

"Alexander!" Cynthia shrieked, twisting her chains. "Help me! They said they were going to burn me alive!"

Alexander’s predatory gaze swept the room. For a fraction of a second, his amber eyes locked onto Elena.

“Alex,” Elena’s inner voice whispered through their mental pack link, a desperate, bleeding plea. “Please. The baby. Help me.”

But Alexander couldn’t hear her wolf’s whisper. He had blocked their marital bond months ago, treating her telepathy like noise pollution.

Without a word, Alexander strode straight past Elena. His heavy leather boots crunched on the shattered glass as he moved directly toward Cynthia. With a single, brutal flex of his Lycan strength, he shattered the chains binding Cynthia to the pillar.

"Alex, it hurts," Cynthia whimpered, collapsing perfectly into his arms. "Elena... Elena told her father’s old men to take me. She set this up, Alex! She hates me because you love me!"

"I know," Alexander’s deep, baritone voice echoed over the crackle of the flames. It was cold. Lethal. He wrapped his designer jacket around Cynthia’s shoulders, lifting her effortlessly into his arms.

Elena felt the room tilt. The heat of the fire was nothing compared to the ice flooding her veins. "Alexander!" she screamed, her voice cracking. "She’s lying! I didn’t do this! Look at me—I’m chained! Alexander, please, the roof is collapsing!"

Alexander stopped. He turned his head sideways, his profile sharp and unforgiving against the backdrop of the inferno. His amber eyes narrowed at Elena with deep, historic disgust. He still believed her dead father had betrayed his pack. He believed the rotten blood in her veins made her a monster.

"Cynthia has asthma, Elena," Alexander said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion. "The smoke will kill her in minutes. I am taking her out first."

"No! Alexander, listen to me!" Tears finally spilled over Elena’s soot-stained cheeks. She looked at the raging fire blocking the exit. If he left her now, there would be no coming back. "If you walk out that door right now, we are done! Do you hear me? Look at me! Look at your wife!"

Alexander didn’t look back. "My team will be right behind me to cut your chains. Stand still."

With those final, freezing words, the billionaire Lycan King carried another woman out of the fire, turning his back on his mate.

"Alexander—!"

A terrifying CRACK rents the air.

Before Alexander’s security team could even cross the threshold, a massive steel support beam exploded from the ceiling, crashing directly into the center of the warehouse. A wall of blinding, white-hot fire and debris slammed downward, completely sealing the exit and cutting Elena off from the outside world.

Boom.

The secondary explosives planted by the Mafia syndicate detonated beneath the floorboards.

In that split second, as the concrete crumbled beneath her feet and fire consumed her vision, Elena felt something inside her chest violently rip apart. It was a physical, agonizing sensation.

The marital bond had snapped.

Far outside the warehouse, she heard a distant, inhuman howl of absolute, feral agony tear out of Alexander’s throat as his wolf realized what he had just done. But it was too late.

Elena let out a ragged, breathless laugh through her tears as she plummeted into the darkness below. You chose her, Alexander. Now, burn in the ashes you left behind.
