The High Tower wasn't built for housing guests. It was where the kingdom locked away political prisoners, disgraced nobles, and anybody else too dangerous for the regular dungeons. The cells were rigged with thick, silver-laced iron bars—a brutal setup designed to constantly drain a Lycan's energy and keep their inner wolf entirely subdued.

Lyra perched on a hard, freezing slab of stone, watching the capital move through its evening routine from a high, barred loophole. Down in the streets, people were living their normal, clueless lives, completely unaware of what was coming. By contrast, her own reality was shrinking fast.

Lyra pressed her fingertips against her forearm and hissed. The skin beneath the glowing runes radiated a constant, feverish heat—a permanent reminder of who she was and what she was carrying. She had known coming straight to the King was a massive gamble—total long odds.

Julian Vance possessed a formidable reputation across the realm as a ruthless, unrelenting warlord. He didn't hesitate to chop off the traitors' and trespassers' heads before they could even finish speaking. But all her planning hadn't prepared her for the sheer shock of locking eyes with him across the throne room. That sudden, violent snap in her chest. The undeniable pull of the Mate Bond.

"Brilliant," Lyra thought, curling her hands into tight fists as the sky turned dark. "Of out every single Lycan walking the earth, my soul had to get tied to the most rigid, overbearing tyrant in the kingdom."

The heavy iron cell door groaned open, the sound bouncing off the bare stone walls. Julian walked in alone. He'd ditched his heavy ceremonial cloak for a plain dark tunic and fitted trousers that showed off his fighter's build. Just walking through the door, he sucked the oxygen right out of the room, heavy with the sharp, suffocating scent of cedar, ozone, and pure alpha dominance.

"You didn't flinch when my guards grabbed you and dragged you up the stairs," Julian observed, leaning casually against the cold stone doorway, his arms crossed deliberately over his broad chest. "Most wolves tremble, stutter, or drop to their knees in the presence of a Lycan King. You looked ready to bite my throat out."

"I'm not like other wolves," Lyra muttered. Her voice stayed level, even though her heart was hammering against her ribs. "And I definitely don't have time to stroke your ego. Did you pull the Western guards as I told you to?" she asked.

Julian narrowed his eyes as he observed every shift in the girl's posture. "I doubled the guards on the West wall. I don't abandon strategic territory based on the frantic words of a trespasser who broke into my palace." He closed the distance, then pointed straight at her arm curiously. "Explain that glowing mark. Nobody in the capital has that seal since the Sun Pack fell."

"Because I am the last one left," Lyra revealed, standing up to meet his height, though she barely reached his broad chest. "My father hid me deep in the freezing northern timberlands when the Shadow Coven slaughtered our pack ten years ago. They didn't just want our territory, but our bloodline, as well! The Sun Pack blood is the ancient key required to break the eternal banishment sealing the underworld."

A flash of gold tore across Julian's eyes, a split-second slip of the wolf fighting under his skin. "The Sun Pack was wiped out by a rogue faction. It was a turf war over hunting rights," he denied.

"That's the fairy tale your royal council fed you so you wouldn't start asking questions," Lyra fired back, stepping right into his space. Her violet eyes flashed with unfiltered fury. "Go dig through the restricted archives. Check the dusty history records by yourself. Or better yet, walk down to the lowest levels and ask Elder Jonas who financed the mercenary raid on our lands a decade ago."

Julian didn't flinch, but his mind started raging behind his piercing gaze. Jonas had served his father for fifty years and was a fixture of the throne. The official records of the massacre had always been locked tight behind emergency wartime classifications, making it impossible to dig deeper.

"You're making incredible accusations. Jonas is a loyal, venerable servant of the throne. He has spent his entire life, bled for this kingdom." Julian defended. His voice dropped low, carrying a sharp, dangerous edge.

"He's a traitorous pawn," Lyra shot back without blinking. "The Coven is hunting down the four ancient bloodlines to crack open the Eclipse Gate right under the capital. They've already got three. I'm the last one they need to finish the ritual. If they take me, or if I die before the Blood Moon reaches its zenith, the ancient barrier falls, and whatever nightmare is trapped down and locked on the other side walks free into this world."

Julian closed the remaining distance between them in a fraction of a second, moving with terrifying, inhuman speed, and caught her firmly by the wrist. The moment his bare skin made contact with hers, a blinding shockwave of golden, liquid light erupted from their point of contact, illuminating every corner of the dark stone cell in a brilliant flash.

Lyra let out a sharp gasp at the overwhelming intensity of the awakened mate bond flooding their senses all at once—heavy, chaotic, and impossible to block out. It was a suffocating mix of raw desire, violent protectiveness, and a terrifying sense that they were stuck with each other.

Julian stared down at their locked hands, totally frozen. He couldn't even catch his breath. In a single second, the girl's entire internal world dumped straight into his head—her relentless strength, her deep-seated fear, and her absolute, unshakable sincerity and truth behind her words.

"You felt it too," Lyra whispered. Her violet eyes were wide, her voice trembling slightly as the magic hummed beneath their skin.

"Yes, I did." Julian rasped. His voice was rough and stripped of its usual armor. He slowly released her wrist, though his calloused fingers lingered against her warm skin for a second too long before pulling away.

"Then you know I'm not lying to you," Lyra pushed as she leaned. "We don't have time to play political games or debate council corruption, Julian. They are already here, and they are coming for your kingdom."

Before Julian could formulate a response or process the swirling tempest of emotions in his mind, a massive blast shook the base of the high tower, vibrating through the solid stone foundation. Shrieks started bleeding up from the courtyard below, instantly drowned out by a sound that made the hair on the back of his neck stand up—a wet, screeching rasp that sure as hell didn't belong to any wolf pack he'd ever heard.

Julian's expression hardened into a mask of pure war, and he drew his heavy broadsword from its scabbard with a fluid motion, his eyes snapping fully to a brilliant, glowing amber. "Stay here where it's secure."

"Not a chance in hell," Lyra said fiercely, pulling a sharp, silver-etched dagger from the hidden sheath in her boot and taking a tactical stance beside him. "I didn't survive ten years hiding in the wilderness just to wait like a caged animal."

Julian glanced down at her, a fierce, approving smirk cutting across his face despite the sudden chaos engulfing the Ironfang Citadel. "Try to keep up then, Princess."

The air in the tomb turned ice-cold as the First Alpha stepped forward. The ground beneath his bare, clawed feet cracked. Black frost spread across the stone floor in intricate, spiderweb patterns."My blood..."The voice did not vibrate through the air, but directly inside the minds of every Lycan in the subterranean chamber. It was the Primordial Command—an ancient, absolute frequency of authority that predated the laws of modern packs."So diluted... so incredibly weak..."Julian gritted his teeth. Sweat poured down his face as he fought with every ounce of his willpower to keep his knees from buckling. His wolf was screaming in his mind, desperate to drop to the floor and bare his neck in submission to the progenitor of their bloodline."Julian!" Lyra called out, stepping in front of him. Her Sun Pack blood shielded her from the wolf-specific mental command. She raised her daggers. Golden fire flared around her blades. "Fight it!"The First Alpha's burning coal eyes shifted from J

Lyra pitched forward, coughing violently. She heaved up mouthfuls of bitter seawater. Her frame shuddered with each convulsive breath as she dragged herself farther up the dark shoreline.Above, the sky was a bruised, swirling tempest—a violent canvas of deep purple and blood-red clouds that churned without the light of sun or moon. The air itself felt impossibly dense, thick with a suffocating, ancient magic that raised the fine hairs on her arms and made her skin prickle with static electricity."Julian..." Lyra gasped out. Her voice was little more than a scraped rasp against the roaring ocean. Pushing herself up onto trembling knees, she peered frantically through the dense, grey fog that clung like a shroud to the beach. "Julian!""I'm here," a deep, gravelly voice echoed from the gloom.Julian materialized out of the mist like a wraith. His dark leather tunic was shredded to ribbons, stained dark with seawater and brine, but his knuckles remained white around the grip of his bro

  • Bound to the Lycan King's Throne   Chapter 18: Voyage to the Isle of Kings

The morning light filtering through the War Room's stained glass felt colder than usual. Though the Ironfang Citadel had survived the internal siege and the sub-gate in the catacombs had been closed, a heavy, dark cloud hung over the royal court. The scout's report lay flattened on the oak table, its bronze casing gleaming under the flickering candlelight."The Isle of Kings," Lord Vito's voice echoed softly, filled with a gravity that silenced every elder in the room. "The birthplace of the first Lycan lineage. The High Council sealed it three centuries ago after the Great Cataclysm. No ship has successfully navigated the Western Ocean since."Lyra stood beside him, her fingers tracing the map where the Western Ocean dissolved into uncharted white space. Leo stood at her hip, quiet but alert. His small hand rested near his belt, where a silver-plated dagger now hung."The High Priestess didn't go there to hide," Lyra said, her violet eyes locking onto Julian's amber ones. "The First

Lyra didn't flinch. She charged straight into the storm of falling stone and crackling, volatile energy. She paid no mind to Gareth, nor did she waste precious seconds attacking her grandmother. Her focus was absolute. Her grey eyes locked entirely on the agonizing pulse of the corrupted crystal.Leaping onto the central altar, Lyra lunged forward and plunged both hands through the burning, blood-rune iron chains wrapping the monument. Ignoring the awful sizzle of scorched flesh, she clamped her bare fingers directly around the bleeding crimson stone."Lyra!" Julian yelled. He leaped across the collapsing floor, wrapping his broad arms around her waist to anchor them both against the rising gale.Julian planted his boots into the crumbling stone. He opened his core, channeling his immense physical and spiritual Alpha strength straight into her body to act as a living conduit, absorbing the brutal, soul-rending recoil of the dark spell.Lyra squeezed her eyes shut, tuning out the agony

  • Bound to the Lycan King's Throne   Chapter 16: The End of the Lineage

The descent into the catacombs beneath the Ironfang Citadel was like walking straight into the throat of hell. The damp stone corridors, once lined with iron torches and ancient ancestral tombs, were now slick with dark slime and lit only by the eerie, toxic green glow of sub-gate portals.Julian led the way. His broadsword cleared a path through waves of shadow-cultists and low-tier dread-beasts. Powered by his fully restored mate-bond, every swing of his blade trailed golden solar arcs that turned dark flesh into ash instantly.Lyra fought at his left flank, her fluid agility perfectly complementing his heavy, unstoppable momentum, while Leo used small bursts of purified sun magic to protect their rear. They reached the central core chamber—a vast subterranean cavern housing the ancient Ley Line crystal. The chamber was unrecognizable. The massive blue floating crystal was completely wrapped in heavy black iron chains forged with blood runes. Lord Gareth stood atop the central platf

The heavy impact echoed through the ruined armory, yet the sharp, unforgiving bite of cold steel didn't reach Lyra's skin.Julian's hand—massive, clawed, and bathed in a sudden burst of incandescent golden fire—had caught the edge of the soul-steel broadsword mere inches above her spine. The sheer, terrifying force of the catch cracked the ancient stone beneath them, driving a shockwave across the hall that scattered the lingering dark smoke into ragged wisps.Gasping for air, Lyra opened her eyes and looked down into his face. The familiar, grounded amber was gone, replaced by two brilliant suns of pure, unadulterated light magic. The black curse that had bound his mind and locked away Julian's memories shattered in a brutal shock at seeing her lay down her life for him a second time."Get... off... my... Queen," Julian growled, his jaw set in a line. His voice was no longer just his own, nor was it merely the ancient wolf within him. It was a resonant, triple-layered roar of the Alp
