The voices welcoming the Lycan King echoed all over Shadowclaw as I stepped out of my room.

Servants hurried past with trays of food and wine and warriors lined on both sides of the path leading to the Sacred Grounds. The entire pack buzzed with excitement.

"Lucien!"

I quickly turned to see Mira hurrying towards me. "There you are," she said, slowing her pace. "I've been looking everywhere for you."

"I could say the same."

"I'm sorry…after they took you to the recovery room, the head cook gathered all the servants in the kitchen. None of us were allowed to leave."

"I figured." I nodded.

She looked me over carefully.

"How do you feel now?"

"Better."

She sighed but didn't argue. "Come on, we'll be in trouble if we arrive late."

Together, we joined the crowd gathering at the Sacred Grounds. By the time we arrived, almost the entire pack was already there.

A loud horn sounded and the massive gates creaked open. The Lycan King entered with his Royal Guards.

Every wolf lowered their head immediately.

"Welcome to Shadowclaw, Your Majesty," Alpha Leo greeted respectfully.

The King inclined his head.

"I trust my visit has not caused your pack too much inconvenience."

"It is an honor to receive you."

The King stepped forward, his sharp gaze sweeping across the gathered wolves.

Against my better judgment…I looked up, our eyes met, only for a heartbeat. Something unreadable crossed his face before he continued walking as though nothing had happened. Instantly, my palms became sweaty.

Maybe I was imagining things.

After exchanging a few words with Alpha Leo, the King addressed the pack briefly. Every wolf listened in complete silence.

"I expect discipline during my stay. And lest you forget, your actions reflect not only upon yourselves, but upon your Alpha and your pack."

When he finished, the gathering slowly began to disperse.

"So that's the Lycan King," Mira whispered.

"I expected him to be... older."

"I expected him to smile at least once," I replied quietly.

She laughed.

Before we could leave, I noticed something strange.

People were staring, they either looked in my direction or whispered to each other, or both.

A group of servant girls fell silent the moment I walked past. One of them looked at me with obvious mockery.

"What is going on?" Mira murmured.

"I don't know."

Across the grounds, I caught sight of Darius but he wasn't looking at me. He was talking to a group of warriors instead and they all turned to look at me, then another group, then another.

The whispers spread like wildfire and within moments, half the people still standing on the Sacred Grounds were glancing in my direction.

"What are they saying?" Mira asked.

"I don't..."

Before I could finish, a warrior approached Alpha Leo and whispered something into his ear.

Alpha Leo's expression darkened.

His gaze swept across the crowd until it landed on me.

"Lucien."

My heart skipped.

"Step forward."

The whispers grew louder as I obeyed.

Darius stepped forward as well without being asked.

"I assume," Alpha Leo said evenly, "that you are the source of whatever rumor has managed to spread through my pack in less than five minutes."

Darius bowed.

"I merely repeated what I witnessed, Alpha."

The Sacred Grounds fell silent once again.

Alpha Leo regarded him for a long moment.

Then his eyes shifted to Arthur.

"Beta Arthur."

Arthur stepped forward immediately.

"My office."

Arthur inclined his head.

"Yes, Alpha."

Then Alpha Leo looked at me.

"You will wait outside."

"Yes, Alpha."

As Arthur followed Alpha Leo away, I couldn't shake the feeling that whatever happened next was about to change everything.

I remained outside Alpha Leo's office with my hands clasped tightly behind my back. My palms were already sweaty. The corridor was unusually quiet.

Through the thick wooden doors, I couldn't make out every word, only fragments, then I heard Alpha Leo's voice.

"...tell me exactly..."

I let out a slow breath, maybe this would all be over soon, maybe Arthur would tell the truth.

Maybe…

Then I heard Arthur's voice.

"...he came to me."

I was shocked, too shocked to show any reaction. I took a step forward and I heard Arthur's voice clearer this time.

"He entered my chamber while I was dressing."

I frowned.

"He behaved... inappropriately."

My fingers slowly curled into fists.

"I rejected his advances before anything could happen."

I stared blankly at the closed door and the world around me seemed to disappear.

He…Lied.

The kiss, his hand on my jaw, the way he'd looked at me, every bit of it…A lie.

Or perhaps...I was the fool all along.

How was I lying? I thought to myself I stared at the King, confused by what he'd meant. I had told him the truth. I genuinely didn't know whether Alpha Leo had a habit of punishing people before investigating their offences or was he referring to something else? "I don't understand, Your Majesty," I said after a brief pause. He studied me for a moment and scoffed. "Perhaps lying was the wrong word. You did answer my question but you also didn't tell me what you actually wanted to say." I got the memo. He wanted me to tell him my own side of the story. What was I supposed to say? I was tired of defending myself to people who had already decided I was guilty? Well technically, he wasn't one of those people. At least not yet but I no longer cared whether Arthur admitted the truth because his betrayal had taught me exactly where I stood. But at the same time I couldn't scrub lavatory floors for the rest of my life so something needed to be done. Nothing I say would change

I returned back to my initial position as I heard footsteps approaching. The office door opened, Arthur stepped out and our eyes met instantly. There was uncertainty in his expression. He knew. He knew I'd heard but neither of us spoke and he walked past me without another glance. "Lucien, come in." Alpha Leo's voice called. I swallowed the lump in my throat and stepped into the office. The Lycan King stood beside the window, one hand resting behind his back. He hadn't left. I immediately lowered my head. "Alpha." Alpha Leo studied me for a long moment. "Someone made a serious accusation against you." "I know, Alpha." "I will ask you once and only once…" His voice was calm. "...speak your truth. Tell me what truly happened." I replayed Arthur's words in my mind, I replayed the incident that’d happened and how I rejected his advances. But instead of speaking, I kept mute. I knew too well, the truth no longer mattered. Whatever I said now would sound like the desp

I saw her again, I saw my mother. The memory was so vivid, almost like it was yesterday—but it wasn't.Ten years had passed since that night. Ten years of pretending to be weak and ten years of silence. It all came flooding back.“Lucien… listen to me carefully.” Tears filled her eyes.“Mother, what’s wrong?” She reached her trembling hand to touch my cheek.“You must never show them what you are.”I frowned, “But I’m just an omega.”Sadness flickered in her eyes for a brief moment.“No...” she whispered, “...you are far more than that.”She lifted her gaze slowly toward the moonlight shining through the window. “The Luna Goddess chose you.”I gasped as I awoke from the wolfsbane haze. I bolted upright, pain exploding through every part of my body.A groan escaped my lips before I could stop it. I looked up, the ceiling above me was unfamiliar. White linen curtains swayed gently beside an open window, carrying in the scent of herbs and fresh air. It took me about a minute to realise I

The silence in the room was brief as we discovered only a young omega standing in the doorway. She frowned."Did…I interrupt something?"Mira blinked first."Alice?""There you are!" Alice hurried inside, hands on her hips. "I've been looking everywhere for you. The head cook is furious. She said if you don't get back to the kitchen this instant, she'll have both our heads."Mira and I exchanged a quick glance.Relief flooded through me knowing she didn't hear us. "Oh..." Mira let out a breath. "Is that all?"Alice looked between us, confused."What else would it be?""Nothing," Mira answered quickly. "We're coming."Alice shrugged."Well, hurry up."She disappeared down the corridor as quickly as she had come. The moment she was gone, Mira shut the door again."I nearly had a heart attack.""You're not the only one." I muttered. She looked at me for a long moment before speaking."Please, don't go."I already knew what she meant."If Darius knows..." she continued, "...if anyone kno

I had never been so grateful for a tray—It gave my trembling hands something to hold."Take these to the meeting chamber," the head maid instructed as she placed four crystal glasses and a silver jug of wine onto the tray. "You know what Alpha Leo doesn't like, so don't keep him waiting.""Yes, Ma'am."I lowered my head, took a slow breath and lifted the tray carefully. Serving the Alpha and his guests didn't bother me because I did it regularly. I was invisible to them most of the time but today was different.Every step toward the meeting chamber made my heart thump loudly because I knew who would be inside.Arthur.The memory of his lips against mine flashed through my mind, making my grip tighten around the tray.Focus, Lucien. You're just serving drinks, nothing more.Acting normal around the man who had kissed me shouldn't be that difficult...Right?I stopped outside the large oak doors, took a deep breath and knocked twice."Come in." Alpha Leo commanded from within.I pushed
