The silence in the room was brief as we discovered only a young omega standing in the doorway.

She frowned.

"Did…I interrupt something?"

Mira blinked first.

"Alice?"

"There you are!" Alice hurried inside, hands on her hips. "I've been looking everywhere for you. The head cook is furious. She said if you don't get back to the kitchen this instant, she'll have both our heads."

Mira and I exchanged a quick glance.

Relief flooded through me knowing she didn't hear us.

"Oh..." Mira let out a breath. "Is that all?"

Alice looked between us, confused.

"What else would it be?"

"Nothing," Mira answered quickly. "We're coming."

Alice shrugged.

"Well, hurry up."

She disappeared down the corridor as quickly as she had come. The moment she was gone, Mira shut the door again.

"I nearly had a heart attack."

"You're not the only one." I muttered.

She looked at me for a long moment before speaking.

"Please, don't go."

I already knew what she meant.

"If Darius knows..." she continued, "...if anyone knows, they'll blame you for it."

"I know."

"So please, don't let it happen."

I picked up my wooden practice sword from the corner of the room.

"I have to go."

"Lucien…"

"I can't spend the rest of the day hiding Mira, I need to clear my head."

She sighed in defeat.

"Then promise me you'll be careful."

"I promise."

She didn't look convinced, so I offered her the smallest smile as she walked out and slammed the door. I remained still and quiet where I stood long after Mira had gone. My gaze drifted to my hands. They looked no different from anyone else's, yet I knew the truth.

If I wanted to, I could end all this. Darius, His friends, the humiliation, the constant reminder that I was nothing more than a weak omega. It would all disappear. I slowly clenched my fist and shook my head, trying to shake off the disturbing thoughts.

I could manage before stepping out into the corridor.

The good thing was nobody knew about it yet, but I knew I needed to find a way to figure out whether Darius knew or not.

The field was relatively empty when I got there because it wasn't training hours. I moved to a quiet corner and began training on my own. Though my movements were stiff at first because my mind was somewhere else, still I forced myself to focus.

I was about to round up when I heard footsteps and giggles approaching. I knew who it was immediately; Darius and his minions. They were headed towards me.

I tightened my grip slightly and every step they took made the atmosphere warmer. Their whispers and laughter grew louder until they were right behind me.

I exhaled calmly and quietly and I turned around, forcing myself to stay still and look unaffected, even though I already knew how it would end.

“Look who decided to train today,” Darius said mockingly, with a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

“What do you want?” I retorted.

He chuckled and glanced at the others behind him, then he took a step closer.

His eyes dragged over me slowly, taking in my breathing, my stance and every little detail like he was searching for something to laugh at, then he scoffed.

“Training doesn't give omegas extra powers. I'm just here to remind you that you're just wasting your time.” He said, shaking his head.

“Who said I needed extra powers?” I asked bluntly.

“Maybe you don't or maybe you think it will make you more attractive, don't you?” Darius added teasingly and they all burst out laughing.

“You really thought throwing yourself at my brother would change anything?” voice dropping just enough to make it sting.

“That one kiss suddenly made you worth something? Face it,” Darius said, straightening.

I couldn't believe my ears.

Darius knew? How?

“Training won’t change anything, neither will it make you attractive enough for Arthur. You're just a weak omega, and that's all you'll ever be.”

My chest tightened and my throat burned. The laughter was louder this time. It wasn't just him, they all knew.

I wanted to ask him how he knew or defend myself at least but I didn't, I couldn't. I needed to leave the spot, so I turned and started to walk away.

I'd barely taken two steps when I felt a sharp sting. Something sharp pierced the side of my neck.

Pain spread instantly through my neck and my hand flew to the spot.

Something thin protruded from my skin and I yanked it free with trembling fingers—A tiny dart.

My vision blurred, my knees became weak and a bitter scent invaded my senses.

No...

Wolfsbane.

I staggered with a blurry vision and fell to the ground.

Everything went dark.

  • Bound to the Lycan: The Omega's secret    Chapter 7

How was I lying? I thought to myself I stared at the King, confused by what he'd meant. I had told him the truth. I genuinely didn't know whether Alpha Leo had a habit of punishing people before investigating their offences or was he referring to something else? "I don't understand, Your Majesty," I said after a brief pause. He studied me for a moment and scoffed. "Perhaps lying was the wrong word. You did answer my question but you also didn't tell me what you actually wanted to say." I got the memo. He wanted me to tell him my own side of the story. What was I supposed to say? I was tired of defending myself to people who had already decided I was guilty? Well technically, he wasn't one of those people. At least not yet but I no longer cared whether Arthur admitted the truth because his betrayal had taught me exactly where I stood. But at the same time I couldn't scrub lavatory floors for the rest of my life so something needed to be done. Nothing I say would change

I returned back to my initial position as I heard footsteps approaching. The office door opened, Arthur stepped out and our eyes met instantly. There was uncertainty in his expression. He knew. He knew I'd heard but neither of us spoke and he walked past me without another glance. "Lucien, come in." Alpha Leo's voice called. I swallowed the lump in my throat and stepped into the office. The Lycan King stood beside the window, one hand resting behind his back. He hadn't left. I immediately lowered my head. "Alpha." Alpha Leo studied me for a long moment. "Someone made a serious accusation against you." "I know, Alpha." "I will ask you once and only once…" His voice was calm. "...speak your truth. Tell me what truly happened." I replayed Arthur's words in my mind, I replayed the incident that’d happened and how I rejected his advances. But instead of speaking, I kept mute. I knew too well, the truth no longer mattered. Whatever I said now would sound like the desp

The voices welcoming the Lycan King echoed all over Shadowclaw as I stepped out of my room.Servants hurried past with trays of food and wine and warriors lined on both sides of the path leading to the Sacred Grounds. The entire pack buzzed with excitement."Lucien!"I quickly turned to see Mira hurrying towards me. "There you are," she said, slowing her pace. "I've been looking everywhere for you.""I could say the same.""I'm sorry…after they took you to the recovery room, the head cook gathered all the servants in the kitchen. None of us were allowed to leave.""I figured." I nodded. She looked me over carefully."How do you feel now?""Better."She sighed but didn't argue. "Come on, we'll be in trouble if we arrive late."Together, we joined the crowd gathering at the Sacred Grounds. By the time we arrived, almost the entire pack was already there.A loud horn sounded and the massive gates creaked open. The Lycan King entered with his Royal Guards.Every wolf lowered their head im

I saw her again, I saw my mother. The memory was so vivid, almost like it was yesterday—but it wasn't.Ten years had passed since that night. Ten years of pretending to be weak and ten years of silence. It all came flooding back.“Lucien… listen to me carefully.” Tears filled her eyes.“Mother, what’s wrong?” She reached her trembling hand to touch my cheek.“You must never show them what you are.”I frowned, “But I’m just an omega.”Sadness flickered in her eyes for a brief moment.“No...” she whispered, “...you are far more than that.”She lifted her gaze slowly toward the moonlight shining through the window. “The Luna Goddess chose you.”I gasped as I awoke from the wolfsbane haze. I bolted upright, pain exploding through every part of my body.A groan escaped my lips before I could stop it. I looked up, the ceiling above me was unfamiliar. White linen curtains swayed gently beside an open window, carrying in the scent of herbs and fresh air. It took me about a minute to realise I

The silence in the room was brief as we discovered only a young omega standing in the doorway. She frowned."Did…I interrupt something?"Mira blinked first."Alice?""There you are!" I had never been so grateful for a tray—It gave my trembling hands something to hold."Take these to the meeting chamber," the head maid instructed as she placed four crystal glasses and a silver jug of wine onto the tray. "You know what Alpha Leo doesn't like, so don't keep him waiting.""Yes, Ma'am."I lowered my head, took a slow breath and lifted the tray carefully. Serving the Alpha and his guests didn't bother me because I did it regularly. I was invisible to them most of the time but today was different.Every step toward the meeting chamber made my heart thump loudly because I knew who would be inside.Arthur.The memory of his lips against mine flashed through my mind, making my grip tighten around the tray.Focus, Lucien. You're just serving drinks, nothing more.Acting normal around the man who had kissed me shouldn't be that difficult...Right?I stopped outside the large oak doors, took a deep breath and knocked twice."Come in." Alpha Leo commanded from within.I pushed
