At the end of the bed, I shed my jeans, laying them across the ornate wooden trunk. There's still too much light in here for the Princess; I go over to the window and pull the tie-backs loose. Thick maroon blackout drapes give a swoosh as they come together. A seashell night light on the wall comes to life in the darkness; I hadn't noticed that last night. She turns as I throw back the covers with a groan, causing me to freeze mid-air before lowering my body onto the bed. It's only a moment before she squirms herself back into my arms, taking a deep breath. Soon, the bump will separate us, so I pull her as close to me as I can. 'Harley needs a cram session on power control before this interview, Nick.' With a sigh, I snuggled my face into her hair. 'Agreed, Z, we at least need to know what we're up against.' 'How's Rae doing?'
Kyle~ We distract Kylie from the ball and take to the patio's sun chairs while she plays in the sprinklers instead. Bright sunlight catches the water droplets, creating a rainbow effect. Kylie is doing her best to catch them, her giggles filling the air. With a grin, I look over at my Luna. I reach for her and settle her onto my lap, as my heart skips a beat. It's a wonder how, after all our years together, she still gets to me. Her strawberry blonde hair lights up in the sun as the wind catches it. Light freckles across her nose dance as she crinkles it at me. "Have I told you how much I love you?" I kissed her freckled nose. "Yes, but I've never tired of it." Her hair had blown across her face, and I tucked a strand behind her ear. "I've been wanting to ask you about having another baby with me." That drew her attention, causing her face to tighten and her eyes to narrow on me. "What happened to waiting until you were Alpha?" "I've changed my mind. Being here with Harle
Ian~ Where is Toby? Even worse than being ignored is knowing that without my wolf, there ain't shit I can do about it. With a string of curses, I cross the room in two strides; the cellarette doesn't stand a chance as I punch the glass door. Blood runs down my hand, and I shake it off before grabbing the bottle of brandy. The fact that I had to call him on his cell rather than use the Pack mind link should have been a clue that something was amiss. The brandy goes down smooth, and my pacing resumes. 'Colt, you son-of-bitch, you'd better heal me!' Nothing! My eyes locked on opening the door. "Where the hell have you been?!" Toby shrugged his shoulders. "I was tying up some loose ends. What's got you so wound up?" The urge to smack him upside the head is strong, but I round my desk and flop down in my chair instead. "Lycan, you're bleeding." "You think I don't fucking know?" After getting a handkerchief from my desk drawer, I slammed it shut. "Why are you bleeding? C
Harley~ Nick wiped his mouth with the cloth napkin, put it on his plate, and pushed away from the table. The screech of his chair across the Calacatta marble floor sounds like my taps. A lump the size of a grapefruit formed in my throat. My face flushed, and my heart raced as I accepted his hand. He helped me up and pulled me close. Right now, a mad dash to the bathroom would be welcome. No such luck, I sigh and give in to my fate. 'Are you ready, Rae?' 'I'm not 100% yet either, Harley, so don't pick no fights but I will do my best.' This house is the gift that keeps on giving; just when you think you have seen it all, another amazing space is revealed. Sofie leads us to the sunroom that faces the Linnae, the backyard, and the bordering mountains. Sky-blue walls soak up the high afternoon sun, giving the impression of floating on the clouds. Beautiful, leafy potted plants sat atop four pedestals in the corners of the glass front. Thick, soft, multicolored drapes hung like
Harley~ Nick's fingers go still on my belly as he puts Etta's fire out and his own. His even breaths hitting the back of my neck have her mama heated instead. My hand trails his arm; his muscles flex. He wouldn't deny me if I turned over and woke him up. Piss on my parade, Rae, is back for sure. 'Harley, Donna will not cut you any slack because the princess is tired.' 'Did you know what was happening while you were absent?' 'Most of the time I'd say, " What's on your mind?' 'The sexual aggression toward Nick has me concerned.' 'Are you referring to the she beast?' 'You know about her?!' 'Harley, we are her in part; however, without me it seems she has run amok. Still, you need to get a hold of yourself. The barred teeth and claw look isn't for you.' 'Hilarious, Rae, trust me, I'm a believer.' 'Goodnight, Harley, do us both a favor and get some rest.' The clock reveals that it's going on two with a sigh; I close my eyes. There's a storm coming, and my ears pick up
Nick~ Harley and I walk with Lauren and Cass to the water's edge. The sky over the lake is a deep shade of purple with puffs of clouds here and there. Perfect beams dance on the waves from a bright yellow moon high in the veil. The Sauther mountains are now in full view; the black mounds stand bold against the plum sky bordering the lake. I've never seen anything like it! As far as you can see, the mountainside is lit with the soft glow of homes built on its ledges. Lauren stops us and looks down the line. "I would suggest removing your shoes." We all do. "Everyone ready?" We all nod, and the four of us go into the lakeside by side. Harley's voice is a whisper in my head, 'I love you, Nick.' She gripped my hand tighter. 'And I love you more, Harley.' Crystal-clear water coats our skin with a cool yet heavy embrace as it swallows us, while a strong whiff of wild honeysuckle wafts across the lake with the breeze. Harley takes a deep breath and tells me honeysuckle is her fa
Kyle~ My sister looks like she's been through hell and back. Not a patch of skin can I see that isn't either bruised or bandaged. If Steve weren't already dead, he would be by now. There's no doubt, I stand behind Nick one hundred percent on that. Harley doesn't deserve any of this. From day one,
Nick~ 'Nick, we gotta get out of here!' 'Zeek, not even you can get us out of here.' There's nothing left to do but pace the floor, and I do for a long while. If the cops were aiming to create an atmosphere that would deter a return, they hit the mark. I'm sure as hell not coming back! The th
Nick~ The driver turns on the lights and sirens as we haul ass toward downtown LA. He makes it a quick trip to Providence St. John's Medical Center, but it feels like hours. Harley coughs up some blood, which causes palpitations in my chest. The EMT tells me it's not as bad as it looks, but I don'
Nick~ On our way back to the ravine where I'd hidden my clothes, Zeek covers his tracks; we take a little longer, but at this point, it's an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure type of situation. When we reach the clearing, we shift, and I head off in the opposite direction, doubling bac
