Kieran's POV:

Adrien stopped pacing. He was breathing heavily, like all this fury was too much for him.

He looked straight into my eyes, “ You know what’s fucked up? I chose the hurricane,” he said softly. “I chose you anyway. Even knowing how difficult, chaotic, selfish you could be... I chose you.”

I couldn’t speak. In fact, I could barely breathe. Tears slipped down my cheeks without permission. I reached out with my bandaged wrist, my hands trembling and I just barely grazed his sleeve.

“I am here,” I whispered. “I am still here.” He must have been scared.

He stared at me for a long moment. Then he broke.

Adrien sank down on the edge of the bed like his legs gave out. He put his head in his hands. His shoulders shook while his breath caught.

“I was so scared,” he said. “I thought I lost you. And I... I didn’t know what I was supposed to do with that. With the idea of you just… gone.”
