Kieran's POV:

Adrien and I looked at each other. Just for a second.

The masked man hissed something into his radio and started backing up.

“We will be seeing you again,” he said to me, voice low and full of promise. “And next time... you won’t have backup.”

I should have said something. I should have cursed him out or thrown something or maybe just spat in his face. But all I could do was stand there and breathe like I had just run for miles. My knees felt weak. My fists were clenched so tight they were shaking.

And just when I thought the moment would end with him disappearing into the trees---

However, I heard another banging sound.

A shot rang out, loud and sharp. It made me flinch again and I almost fell.

But this time, it wasn’t from the man in black.

It was from Adrien.

Adrien fucking Vale, half-bleeding, half-standing, just raised his arm and fired. Without any hesitation and no warning. Just lifted his damn hand like he was born to do this.
