RAINE’S POV

The minute I pulled my eyes open, I was captivated by the soft light spilling through the curtains. For a second, I wasn’t sure where I was—until I sat up and realized I was in my room. I was neatly tucked in and could smell Cyril’s cologne on me.

It was faint but deep, the kind that clung to your skin like it belonged there. It was then I realized Cyril had carried me here himself. I wrapped my arms around myself, hugging my body like I could trap his scent and keep it a little longer. God, I could drown in it forever.

A small sigh slipped out of me before I noticed. The room felt still, almost too quiet. As I glanced around, my eyes landed on a black box resting on my dresser, a smaller one sitting on top like it was waiting to be opened first.

I climbed out of bed, toes touching the cool floor, as I walked towards the dresser. My fingers brushed the little box and while I opened it, I felt like a little child tearing open her Christmas gift.

My eyes landed on a cute jad

CYRIL’S POVThe murmurs that followed after Kyle said those words buzzed like fucking bees around my head, but I didn’t flinch. I sat straight in that damn chair, staring in Diane’s direction. She was looking like someone who just worked a double with her tired eyes. I could see she was trying so damn hard to look put together but that front wasn’t working. Her expression gave her away easily. My eyes moved to Daniel who sat beside her, had his usual calm expression on like he wasn’t the one behind half the shit I’d gone through. My attention shifted to Celia who was now on her feet. She wore that smug, rehearsed lawyer look. I hated it already.“You have to remember,” she started, eyes scanning the room, “the reason we’re here is because Mr. Vale took Zayne away from his legal guardian and parent.”I leaned back in my chair, already bracing myself for the bullshit she was about to spit. “If the court had previously ruled Miss Harken as the legal parent, then surely there was a reas

RAINE’S POV“What the hell, Talon?” I blinked, still frozen in my chair. My eyes locked on my phone now tucked in his pocket like it belonged there. “Give it back.” He didn’t move. He just leaned on the counter, elbows on the edge. His blue eyes didn’t even flinch and that terrified me.“Babe.” I bit my lips at the name. I wasn’t sure how long it was before I got used to him calling me that. Hopefully not for long. “We’re working to move on from this, remember? You can’t be texting his son and getting all up in their business.” he gestured with his hands, like he was explaining to a kindergartner. I shot up from my chair so fast it scraped the floor loudly. My heart thudded in my chest. Those words ignited something in me. “Wait what?” I stared at him, my voice cracking. “You literally just asked me if I wanted to go?” He didn’t say anything. He just stared at me. “What came over you?” I asked, still trying to process what was going on.Suddenly, he threw his head back and let

  • Breaking Daddy's Rules   122. Not In Your Wildest Dreams

RAINE’S POVI opened the little duffel bag I’d packed the night before, then double-checked my toothbrush, lip gloss, charger, and the two tops. I was going to Talon’s house. It was his idea to come over after I told him Chloe would keep hovering if we decided to take more fake couple pictures in my penthouse. Talon didn’t want to get roped into one of Chloe’s I-got-my-eyes-on-you moments, so he casually suggested that I come.Just when I was about to do a triple check, Talon texted. I peeked at my screen and saw he was notifying me that he was outside. I zipped up my bag, then stared at my reflection for a second. My light brown hair was tied half up, and the mascara I applied was just enough to make my eyes look less tired. Quite satisfied with my look, I grabbed my bag, swung it over my shoulder, and headed for the door. When I opened it, Talon was leaning against the doorframe in a dark red hoodie and black cargo shorts. His brown hair was a hot mess, his blue eyes as calm as a

CYRIL’S POV The sun was blazing through the narrow windows of the courtroom; it had to be at least 100°F out there. Everything looked like it was melting, but inside was ice-cold; the AC was cranked up so high it made my spine feel like it was wrapped in frost. The bailiff called the session to order. “All rise. The court is now in session. The Honorable Judge Marquez presiding.” He droned like a cranky machine. We stood while Judge Marquez entered. Her gray hair was slicked back, and her long robe flowed like liquid. She sat down and gave a firm nod. “You may be seated.”And just like that, shit got real. The sound of papers rustling and shoes scraping against tile engrossed the room. My palms itched under the table, but I kept my face blank. Focused. Kyle, my lawyer, leaned slightly toward me and muttered, “Let them open with their fireworks show.”Celia strutted to the center, every step screamed pride. Her chin was raised high, and her mouth curled in a smug way that annoyed t

  • Breaking Daddy's Rules   120. Afraid You Would Lose?

CYRIL’S POV I had told myself I’d respect Raine’s space, let her live her life without my constant hovering like some controlling bastard. But after everything that happened, I realized that it was time to do what I should’ve done a long time ago. So, the second I stepped out of Raine’s penthouse, I told Jamie to start digging into that piece of shit. I couldn’t even wait till I got to the car before I began barking orders into my cell. “Twenty-four hours, Jamie. That’s all I’m giving you to get this done.” “I want to know everything about this Talon dude; his finances, background, patients, who he eats with, who he fucks, where he sleeps. I want his entire life dissected like a fucking autopsy.”I wasn’t playing around, and I was sure Jamie knew that too.I drove to the estate afterwards; I didn’t feel like going to the villa. I was on edge and the last thing I wanted was to snap at Zayne. I couldn’t deal with the guilt of hurting him again or the weight of having to apologize.

  • Breaking Daddy's Rules   119. Best Thing That Happened To Me.

RAINE’S POVThe silence between us was unbearable after those words left my lips. I thought he was going to throw something. Or scream. Or beg. But he didn’t. He stepped back. Just one step. But it felt like a line had been drawn, pushing us into two different worlds. My chest felt too small for my heart. I hated how I was feeling and I didn’t waste time dwelling on it because Cyril took a step forward now.It was like he was rethinking his decision, and he didn’t want to walk away. This was going to be hard, and I don’t think I had it in me to continue putting up this act. When Cyril was in front of me. He placed both hands on my shoulders. His eyes, those sharp, unreadable green orbs, just stared into mine for what felt like forever. Then he pulled me to his chest, and his deep oud cologne hit my nose. I inhaled, taking in as much of him as I could. It was one of those strong, grounding hugs that made me want to melt and scream at the same time. He kissed my forehead, gently, a
