Emma's POV

After we closed Alex's door, Jake and I stood in the hallway.

Neither of us speaking.

Marriage.

The word hung between us like something fragile.

"We should talk," I finally said.

"Yeah."

We went to the living room. Sat on opposite ends of the couch.

Too much space between us suddenly.

"So," Jake started.

"So."

"Alex asked a big question."

"He did."

More silence.

"Emma, I don't want to pressure you," Jake said. "We said we'd take it slow. I meant that."

"But?"

"But I need you to know something. I see forever with you. Not someday. Not maybe. I see it. Clear as day."

My heart started racing.

"Jake—"

"You don't have to say it back. I'm just being honest. After everything. After eight years apart. After finding you again. After building this family. I know what I want."

"I see it too," I whispered.

He looked up. "You do?"

"Yes. But I'm scared. What if we're moving too fast? What if this is just trauma bonding? What if—"

"Emma, I loved you eight years ago.

  • Breaking Up With The Hottest Man On Ice    Small Victories, Big Problems

Emma's POV Marcus Rivera stayed. We celebrated for exactly ten minutes. Then the phone rang again. David Thompson. I knew from his voice before he said anything. "Jake, Emma. I appreciate everything you have done for me. But I am moving to Titanium Sports." My stomach dropped. "Can I ask why?" Jake asked. "Derek offered better terms. Bigger platform. More resources. I need to think about my career long term. I hope you understand." We understood. But it still hurt. David Thompson was twenty percent of our remaining revenue. Gone. Sarah Johnson called that afternoon. "I need more time. Can I have another week?" "Of course," I said. But I knew. Another week meant she was leaning toward leaving too. Net result: We held Marcus. Lost David. Sarah undecided. Not good enough. Derek posted on social media that evening. Photo of him shaking hands with David Thompson. "Another athlete chooses excellence over mediocrity. Welcome to Titanium Sports, David Thompson. This is what hap

Come in."We sat in his living room. His wife brought coffee."Marcus, I am not going to pretend I do not know why we are here," I started. "Derek contacted you. Made you an offer.""He did. Two percent lower commission. Better terms. Guaranteed attention.""And you are

  • Breaking Up With The Hottest Man On Ice    First Day of War

Emma's POVMy first day at Sullivan Sports Management started with hate mail. Not physical mail. Digital. Comments. Messages. Social media responses.Derek's post had gone viral overnight. #NepotismHire was trending."Boss's girlfriend gets six figure job. Must be nice.""This is why companies fail. Hiring family instead of talent.""Sullivan Sports is a joke. Derek Chen was right."I sat at my new desk staring at my computer. Deep breath. You can do this.Jake knocked on my office door. "How are you holding up?""Fine. Just reading my fan mail.""Emma, ignore it. Derek is just trying to rattle you.""It is working."The staff meeting was at nine AM. Everyone gathered in the main conference room.Thirty employees. All looking at me with mixture of curiosity and skepticism.Marcus introduced me. "This is Emma Reed. New Director of Marketing. • Breaking Up With The Hottest Man On Ice    The Pitch

Jake's POVEmma stood at the front of the boardroom. Confident. Professional.Nothing like the terrified woman from the custody trial. She clicked to the first slide. "Sullivan Sports is failing. You know this. Revenue down sixty percent. Clients leaving. Staff demoralized. The question is why."Marcus crossed his arms. "We know why. Jake's custody battle created instability.""That is what Derek Chen wants you to believe. But it is not the full story."She clicked to the next slide. A timeline."Derek started his campaign against you six months before Jake's custody battle became public. He has been systematically targeting your clients for over a year."David leaned forward. "How do you know that?""Social media analytics. I tracked Titanium's posts. Their engagement. Their client acquisition. The custody battle gave Derek a convenient narrative. But he was already winning before that."She showed graphs. Data. Evidence. The board members started paying attention."Derek Chen is not

Go back to bed.""You have been up every night this week.""I have a lot to catch up on."But it was more than that. I could see it in his face. The stress. The fear."What is really going on?""Nothing. Just work.""Do not lie to me. We just spent months fighting for our family. Do not shut me out now."He looked at me. Exhausted. Defeated."The company is failing. Derek Chen destroyed us while I was in court. We have maybe six months before bankruptcy."The words hit like a punch. "Why did you not tell me?""Because you have been through enough. The trial. The stress. The pregnancy. I did not want to add more.""So you were going to handle it alone? Suffer alone?""I am trying to protect you.""I do not need protection. I need partnership. Jake, we are supposed to be a team."He ran his hands throu
