Chapter 2

Author: uni
Early the next morning, I went to the pack clinic.

I had just finished my prenatal checkup and was getting ready to leave when I saw Ryan. He was carefully supporting Clara as they walked out of the ultrasound room.

The two of them sat down on the waiting chairs to look at the scan. Clara was pointing at the image, whispering something, and Ryan was listening with total focus, occasionally typing notes into his phone.

Watching this, I instinctively touched my own belly. My eyes burned with a sting I couldn't control.

I didn't want to deal with them and ruin my mood further, so I turned to leave. But before I could, Ryan looked up and caught my eye.

Ryan stood up, his brow furrowing with instant irritation.

"Are you following me?"

Before I could say a word, Clara tugged on his sleeve, her voice sounding small and anxious.

"Ryan, does Celine have the wrong idea? Let me go talk to her. I don't want to come between you two."

She made a move to stand up and come toward me.

Ryan immediately pressed her back into her seat, refusing to let her move.

"You're carrying a pup. Just sit still. I'll handle Celine."

I had zero interest in their little display of affection and turned to walk away.

But Ryan lunged forward and grabbed my wrist so hard I stumbled, nearly falling over.

By the time I steadied myself and looked up, I was met with Ryan's face, flushed with anger.

"Celine, I made myself clear last night. Why can't you get it through your head? I couldn't believe you actually stalked us to the clinic."

I wrenched my arm out of his grip. My wrist was already turning red and starting to swell.

"I don't have the time or the energy to stalk you, Ryan. Get over yourself."

He clearly didn't believe me.

"Then why are you at the clinic?"

I held up my medical papers and said calmly, "To see a doctor."

Ryan's frown deepened. "You're sick? Since when? Why didn't I know about this?"

He reached out to snatch the papers from my hand, but Clara suddenly stepped forward, tears welling in her eyes as she grabbed my hand.

"Celine, I've been so lonely since Kaleb passed. I just wanted a pup to keep me company, so I asked Ryan to help with the sowing. I never intended to break your mate bond."

If Clara just wanted a pup, she could have easily applied for a donor through the pack's bloodline bank. But no—she insisted on using Ryan's seed.

And then there was the way she addressed him. Everyone else called him "Alpha," but she always called him "Ryan."

Once you wake up to the truth, you start noticing a thousand details you missed before.

I hid the flash of mockery in my eyes and silently pulled my hand away.

To my surprise, Clara let out a sharp gasp and tumbled backward. Ryan instantly caught her, pulling her into his arms, his face pale with fright.

"Clara! Are you okay?"

Clara clung to Ryan's neck, tears trembling in her eyes.

"Ryan, I'm fine... I just didn't expect Celine to..."

Ryan snapped. He looked at me, his eyes burning with pure rage.

"Celine! She's pregnant, for Moon Goddess' sake! How can you be so vicious?"

I didn't expect Clara to pull a stunt like that, and I certainly didn't expect Ryan to believe her without a second thought.

I looked at them coldly. "I didn't push her."

My words only made him angrier.

"I saw it with my own eyes! You're still going to lie? Thank the Moon Goddess I caught her in time. If anything happens to her, I'll never forgive you!"

"I was going to wait for you to finish with your doctor so we could go home together, but forget it. Go home by yourself. I'm taking Clara back!"

With that, he turned, holding Clara protectively as they walked away.

Watching his frantic concern for her, I suddenly spoke up, stopping him in his tracks.

"Ryan, if I told you I was pregnant—that I was here for an ultrasound today—would you stay?"

Maybe it was because Ryan felt guilty, but he left me a massive chunk of his assets when we dissolved the bond. I took every single penny. It was enough to live comfortably for a very long time, so I took my growing pup and started traveling the world.Every time I reached a new destination, I sent a postcard back home to my parents. I also started documenting my journey and my feelings on Instagram. As time passed, I actually built up quite a following.People admired my courage—traveling the globe solo while pregnant. At the same time, the journey allowed me to experience the beauty of nature and find the path my life was actually meant to take. The last five years of my life under that mate bond felt like a past life.During my travels, my belly grew bigger. Whenever the pup kicked, I'd stroke my stomach and whisper to it."Baby, Mommy is going to protect you.""We don't need a man who doesn't deserve to be a father."By the time I finished my world tour and headed home, I heard new

I stared at Clara as she sat across from me, sipping her coffee with slow, deliberate movements. She was a completely different person from the girl who acted so helpless in front of Ryan. The mask of the fragile, innocent victim was gone. Now, the look she gave me was dripping with pure disdain."Ryan loves me. You need to sign those papers and sever the bond already."Seeing Clara finally show her true colors didn't rattle me. I picked up my cup and took a calm sip."What makes you think I'm the one refusing to sign?""Ryan is the one begging me not to end it."Clara froze for a second, then glared at me with pure hatred."Liar! I'm carrying his pup. Why would he ever choose you over mating with me?""You must be the one clinging to him, refusing to let go!"A moment later, she leaned back and started to laugh."You don't even know, do you? This pup in my belly... it didn't happen through some sterile 'Sowing Ceremony' like Ryan told you.""Ryan and I have been doing everything for a

Ryan looked nothing like his former self. His face was gaunt, covered in messy stubble—he was a shadow of the proud Alpha he used to be.The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up, and he rushed toward me."Celine! How are you feeling? Is the pup okay?"I gave him a distant, cold nod."Much better. If you don't have anything important to say, I'm leaving."He quickly reached out to stop me, cautiously handing me a small box.He opened it to reveal a pair of rings."Celine, the custom wedding bands finally arrived."When we first met, Ryan and I designed our own rings together. They held a special meaning for both of us.Back then, we promised each other that we would never take them off, no matter what happened. But eventually, I noticed the ring was missing from his finger. When I asked him where it went, he told me that seeing his wedding band made Clara sad. He claimed it reminded her of Kaleb, so he had taken it off to spare her feelings.I was furious at the time. We had a huge fight a

Early the next morning, Ryan showed up at the border entrance of the Silver Moon Pack territory. He didn't care that the guards tried to stop him; he forced his way in anyway. When I heard the commotion outside, I was sitting in bed, sipping some beef stew my mother had made for me.By the time Ryan burst into the room, his eyes were bloodshot, his jaw was covered in stubble, and he looked completely wrecked. He stared straight at me, his eyes swimming with guilt, regret, and agony. The moment my parents saw him, they started shoving him toward the door without a second thought."Get out! Get out now! You aren't welcome here!""As soon as Celine is healthy enough, she's severing the bond. My daughter doesn't need a cold-hearted Alpha like you!"Ryan looked pained, his voice thick and bitter."Celine, I... I didn't know you were pregnant. That day, I was just caught up in the heat of the moment...""Enough."I cut him off and signaled for my parents to step outside. I wanted to talk to

Over ten hours later, the plane touched down in a small border town on the edge of the Silver Moon Pack's territory.I dragged my luggage out of the arrival hall and immediately spotted my mother. She was standing by the exit, looking around anxiously. The moment she saw me, her eyes welled up. She rushed over and pulled me into a tight embrace."Celine! Why are you back all by yourself? Where's Ryan? Did something..."I looked at the worry etched on her face and tried to say I was fine, but my nose stung, and the tears started falling before I could stop them.My mom pulled me closer, her heart breaking for me as she stroked my hair."It's okay, it's okay. Mom's here. Tell me everything, honey."We found a quiet corner to sit down, and I told her every single thing that had happened—Clara's ultrasound, the scene at the clinic, Ryan's coldness, Clara's taunting texts, and the dissolution papers I'd left on the table back at the Pack House.By the time I finished, my mother was shaking

Vera glanced at me, looking a bit surprised. When she saw no trace of anger on my face, her expression softened slightly."I'm glad you finally understand." After all, the Dark Moon Pack can't go without an heir to the bloodline.""It's a good thing Ryan is such a loyal man, and we're lucky to have Clara." Otherwise, the Dark Moon line might have ended with you."As she spoke, Vera gently stroked Clara's stomach, her face beaming with joy.I found the whole thing nauseatingly ironic.Loyal? If Kaleb knew that Ryan's "care" for his mate involved knocking her up, his soul would probably storm back from the Moon Goddess's side just to tear him apart.Seeing that I remained silent, Clara shot me a timid, sideways glance."Celine, are you still mad at Ryan and me?""I really just wanted a pup of my own." I was so lonely and scared being in that house by myself."Clara started sobbing softly, acting as if she were the victim of some great injustice.Vera rushed to wipe her tears with a tissu
