LOGINI awoke to a stinging pain on my lower back, I winced as I tried to sit up; my vision swimming for a moment.
Gods, what had he done to me? No one told me this was what it felt like, even my neck hurt from the claiming bite.
My back went rigid when something moved. Slowly turning to look, I flinched back in surprise at the sight of Eilis on his knees. It suddenly felt like déjà vu, this was the second time the feral prince was on his knees in front of me.
“I'm sorry.” He said the words like it physically pained him to voice it. “You didn't deserve to be treated like that.”
I blushed as I remembered all that had transpired between us. I shifted, biting my lip as it felt like the pain spread to my foot.
“It was part of the claiming my prince there's nothing to be sorry about.” My voice was small, barely audible. But that was what I could manage as I tried not to break down.
“Don't say that.” He hissed, “I knew what I did was wrong. You gave me no permission.”
I could see he was sorry, by the way his expression tightened, he looked angry at himself. But what was I supposed to say? You shouldn't have claimed me? I hate you?
I opted for the truth. “I don't think you were in your right mind when you did it.”
Eilis flinched, his eyes closing as he took on a breath. “I think I owe you this much, you're right, I wasn't in my right senses, my other half took over.”
His other half? Like he saw the confusion in my face, he answered. “When I went feral and was cured by the priests I didn't come back alone. A part of the feral side came back with me. I call him the wolf.
I don't remember what he does when he takes over but I'm sure it was bad looking at the state of you.”
My back stiffened, a sudden flush overtaking me as I remembered the real reason I'd been in the situation in the first place.
“No one must know I still lose control.” He continued, “I'll keep your secret if you keep mine.”
The opportunity raced in my mind. This was a deal that could grant me life.
“The pack would put me down for losing control and my father will see you hanged for the betrayal, this deal is in our favor.”
“I agree.” I said at last.
“Good.” He replied, standing up from the floor, “I have told the servants to just help with water and food, you'll wash yourself, better to be discreet than take the risk of someone finding out.”
I nodded in understanding, not that I had servants at my beck and call in my father's house anyway.
“Continue pretending, try to speak less, and don't stand in a place for too long. The people will stare, they'll analyze you, so you must do your best they don't find anything amiss.”
I nodded. Still sitting on the bed.
“I'll send the servants in now.” He pivoted, heading towards the door.
Immediately it clicked shut, I tried to get up. At least the rumours about his bedroom activities had some truth in them.

Denis arrived a while after I'd taken my bath, his face a ray of sunshine in the otherwise gloom of my own mind.
Calani had dressed me in a silk blue gown that flowed all the way to the floor and covered most parts of my shoulder except the claiming bite, at least it covered the marks and bruises.
“I'm so glad you survived your first night, how are you feeling?”
Was he to be trusted? Could I be free with him? I shrugged, going for friendly. “I feel fine, just tired.” My right hand trailed to my neck, stopping just beside the claiming bite. Denis’ eyes followed it, his eyes dimming into what seemed like pity.
“Wow, that's….that's rough.”
I frowned, did it look that bad?
“Don't get me wrong, it's great..it's just—it looks like a vigorous claiming. It's screaming possessiveness, and that's a good thing.”
Why did I feel like he was lying to make me feel better? My neck suddenly started aching again, despite the fact that Calani had put in soothe cream to reduce the pain for me.
“The wolves would know to stay away from you.” He grinned. “We'll start with court training today, cause I'm sure the king will throw a ball to welcome the prince’s mate into the family.
“Lesson one.” Denis started, as we sat opposite each other, his legs spread across the chair, while I attempted to maintain my image by sitting as still as possible in order to avoid triggering the pain in my ass. “Do not, for anything, show fear.”
“I think I'm managing alright.” I shrugged.
He scoffed. “It reeked of you last night.”
Yes, maybe because I was going to get claimed like an animal. I didn't say that though, I didn't know if Denis was a potential friend or enemy.
“Lesson two.” He continued, “Never question Eilis in front of an audience, no matter how much you want to protest.”
I blinked, did that mean he could do anything he wanted and I could do nothing about it?
“He's your prince first and foremost, the mate comes after. Think of it like this; If the kingdom were to be in danger and Eilis is asked to choose between his mate and the kingdom, he's expected to choose the kingdom.”
I snorted before I could stop it, like the prince cared about me anyways.
“Lesson three: no matter how much someone pisses you off and just want to tell them to shove their opinion up their ass, you have to do it politely, for example.” Denis brought his legs down from the chair to face me fully. “You say: I appreciate your concern, but I will consider it in private.”
“Isn't that the same thing?”
“Exactly.” He said pleasantly. “It's just wrapped in silk.
“And if I don't.” I had to ask.
His smile was slow and sharp. “Then they decide you're impulsive, dangerous and unfit to be by the prince's side.”
_______
“Your back is too stiff, you should try to relax more.” Calani muttered as she tightened the corset.
“Says the person who told me the rumours in the first place.” I said under my breath.
Calani was helping me get ready for the ball, Denis had been running right. The king was throwing a ball to welcome me to the family.
“At least you survived the night, that's a good beginning, now you just have to survive your first court session.” Calani argued.
I shivered. “They're going to eat me alive.”
I'd heard the nobles used the opportunity of court to get under ones skin, and I had a lot of garbage under mine. What if someone notices I'm not a woman?
RAVENMy bare feet slapped against the stone floor of the hallway.I didn't look back. I could hear the furious thud of his footsteps behind me."Raven!" his voice boomed. It made me stumble, but I immediately righted myself and kept moving.Servants carrying laundry baskets and silver trays froze in their tracks, pressing themselves against the walls. Visiting nobles, dressed in their morning finery, turned around in shock. At first, a few of them smirked, assuming it was just another twisted game—a naked, feral prince pursuing his mate. But as the Wolf barreled past them, their smirks completely vanished.Their eyes widened in horror. The posture was all wrong. The way he carried his body, the raw, animalistic snarl tearing from his throat, and the unhinged, golden glare had nothing to do with the poised Crown Prince they knew. This wasn't a lover's chase. It was a predator hunting down prey to slaughter it.The servants shrank back, some dropping their trays in terror as the Wolf
RAVENThe room fell dead silent. The weight of the Wolf’s threat pressed down on my chest.I sat completely frozen, my knees still tucked tightly against my chest, staring at the exact spot on my stomach where his calloused palm had just been resting. He’s going to kill it.I couldn't let him do that. Our sacrifices would mean nothing, we'd just be back to square one. I was going to protect it, even if it meant running. Even if it cost me my life. But looking at the massive frame of the man standing at the edge of the bed, the reality of my situation hit me. The door was too far away. He was too fast, too strong, and entirely too alert. If I made a blind dash for the handle right now, he would have me pinned to the floorboards before I could even take three steps.I couldn't outrun him in a straight line. I needed him completely off balance.I twisted my lips as an idea started to form. The Wolf loved to take me. Every single time he emerged and forced Eilís back, that raw, dominant

RAVEN The wood of the wardrobe bit into my back, but I barely felt it over the heat of his body crowding me. I stared up into those blown-out, gold eyes and froze. My tongue felt glued to the roof of my mouth. "I asked you a question," the Wolf growled. His grip tightened until my shoulder bones ached. He leaned in so close his nose brushed mine, his teeth bared. "Answer me, or I will tear this room apart with you in it. I don't have Eilis’s patience, Raven. Speak." The volatility in his voice snapped my paralysis. He had no restraint. Unlike Eilís, who always pulled back, the Wolf could break my bones just to prove a point. Terror spiked hot and sharp in my chest, and the truth spilled out before I could stop it. "Luna appeared!" I blurted out, my voice cracking. "The goddess. She appeared during the ritual!" His jaw locked
RAVENThe walk to the guard captain's quarters was a total waste of time. When Eilís checked the ledgers, everything looked perfect. The names were there, the shifts matched up, and nobody had seen a thing.Whoever went down to see Mirabel hadn't used the main doors. Before Eilís could lose his temper at the captain, a page hurried into the room with a message. The King wanted to see me."He’s not seeing Raven alone," Eilís snapped, grabbing my elbow before the page could even finish talking. "Whatever my father has to say, he says it to both of us."The page didn't dare argue. He just nodded quickly and led us straight to the royal chambers. When we walked in, my chest tightened. The King was sitting at his desk, but something was completely wrong. Right across his cheek, the mark from the goddess’s slap was still there. It looked raw and angry, a deep burn that his werewolf healing hadn't even touched.I stared at it, completely thrown off. The ritual happened days ago. Why wasn't
RAVEN The iron door groaned shut behind us, cutting off the sound of Mirabel’s muffled sobs. Eilís walked beside me, his stride long and agitated. His jaw was clenched so tightly a muscle ticked in his cheek, his fingers resting heavily on the pommel of his sword. "What do we do if the physician finds nothing?" I asked, keeping my voice low so the guards at the end of the hall wouldn’t overhear. "What if her mind is just... blank?" "Then someone went to great lengths to wipe her clean," Eilís ground out, not breaking his pace. "I don't think Mirabel could do this to herself. She doesn't have the kind of power required to tear apart her own memories without leaving a trace. Yesterday, she was a liability to whoever she was working with. Today, she’s completely useless to us." He stopped at the base of the spiral stone staircase that led back up to the palace sectors, turning to face me fully. His dark eyes narrowed in deep frustration. "The timing is what's bothering me," he mutt
RAVEN The heat flared up a few more times over the next few hours, dragging us back into it until my body completely gave out. When the darkness finally claimed me, I slept heavily. When I woke up, the morning light was cutting through the drapes. My body felt sore and the fever in my blood was gone. Eilís was already awake, sitting on the side of the bed with his trousers on. "How are you feeling?” He asked. “Like my ass is on fire.” He chuckled. “Time to get up," he said, not looking back at me. "You need to come with me to the dungeons. We're going to see Mirabel." I bolted upright, completely ignoring the ache in my limbs. "Mirabel? You captured her? You never mentioned anything about having her here!" Eilís stood up and reached for his tunic. "We grabbed her yesterday." "Why didn't you tell me?" He pulled the fabric down over his chest and shrugged. "It skipped my mind." Before I could say anything else, Calani stepped into the chamber with a fresh set of clothes. My f
I was standing beside the pack. They were frantic, pulling at their clothes in excitement for the hunt. How many of them wanted me dead? How many didn't care if I survived or not?I hit my lip when I saw Eilis held down beside the king. His wolf was just as ferocious as it had been at the wedding.I
The second morning was quieter than the first, the kind of heavy, suffocating silence that usually precedes a storm. I had spent the dawn hours standing in the center of my room, letting Calani adjust the binders until I could only take air in short, measured sips. My ribs ached with a dull, consta
The next morning, Denis didn't give me the luxury of a slow recovery. I could still feel the meat turning in my stomach. He arrived at my chambers while the mist was still thick against the glass, carrying a wooden practice stave. He didn't look like a playful attendant today, I didn't know Denis co
The "Blood Feast" was held in the smaller dining hall.I sat at the center of the long, dark table, surrounded by the Alphas of the Council. They didn't speak to me. They just watched, their eyes tracking the way my throat moved every time I swallowed a sip of water. I wore the most restrictive gown
