Chapter 1

Kathryn Michaels had worked as an assistant to the president of Albert Group for two whole years. Everyone perceived the young woman as diligent and honest. However, last night, Kathryn had done something out of character.

Kathryn lifted the blanket over her with a trembling hand and looked underneath. Upon noticing her nakedness, she paled instantly.

She vaguely recalled forcefully tugging on a man's tie and dragging him to bed with her. Just the thought made her shudder. She turned to her side stiffly and caught sight of a man sound asleep.

She let out a loud, fearful gasp, then quickly pulled the blanket back up to cover herself.

Last night hadn't been a dream after all. It turned out that she had indeed forced herself on her boss, Chris Albert, the director-slash-president of Orinsk International Group! The man was her immediate supervisor, for God's sake!

"What have I done?" she thought to herself.

Kathryn was terrified. She didn't even have time to think about the loss of her virginity. She hopped out of bed and put her clothes back on in a hurry.

She was quick to get herself out of the room before Chris woke up and returned to her room. Although she was trembling, she tried to act as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

Tally Johnson, who was putting on her makeup, looked up at Kathryn upon her return. "Why didn't you come back here after sending Mr. Albert to his room last night? I kept calling you, but you wouldn't answer," she said.

Kathryn's heart nearly seized upon hearing that.

She replied with a stutter, "Well, I—I actually did come back. You were already asleep and looked dead to the world, so I figured it'd be best not to wake you. I had some errands to run for Mr. Albert just now, so I went to see him."

It was a really lousy explanation, but it was a somewhat reasonable one.

As the president's assistant, Kathryn was always on call, even when she was on business trips. She had to be available at all times.

Tally hummed in acknowledgement and continued to apply her false eyelashes.

Kathryn breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that her friend wasn't going to question her anymore. She rushed into the bathroom to wash up and apply her makeup.

After they finished breakfast together, it was nearly 8 am. They rushed to the venue right away.

Kathryn wore a black suit and was sporting her usual composed demeanor.

Her phone vibrated in her suit pocket. She took it out to check it. Upon seeing Chris' name displayed on screen, her breath caught involuntarily.

"Come find me in the lounge."

Even though the man had only sent her six words, Kathryn could feel his anger through the screen. Her heartbeat began to pick up right away.

However, she recalled that Mr. Albert had been quite drunk the night before. "He can't possibly remember what happened last night, right?" she thought.

Kathryn was uncertain. Feeling afraid, she couldn't help but feel the slight tremble of her limbs. Even so, she did as she was asked and went to find Chris in the lounge.

The man had a frosty expression on his face. The oppressive air he exuded was more intense than usual. Anyone who saw him would break out into shivers.

Kathryn braved herself and approached him. "Mr. Albert, you asked for me?" she asked respectfully.

A loud slam sounded. A silver angel pendant had been slammed onto the coffee table.

Upon seeing it, Kathryn's blood instantly ran cold. "It's over now. I can't believe I dropped something so important to me in his room!" she thought.

She was careful to assess the man's expression. Chris' thin lips were tightly pursed, and there was a glint of coldness in his eyes. He looked extremely frightening.

Kathryn clenched her hands. Just as she was about to come clean and beg for forgiveness, she was interrupted.

"You have 24 hours to find me the owner of this pendant!" Chris demanded coldly.

Kathryn's pale face froze. She'd experienced a rollercoaster of emotions in such a short amount of time. Her brain was buzzing from all the adrenaline.

She looked at the regal man on the couch and awkwardly asked, "You want me to find the owner?"

That meant that Chris didn't know the pendant was hers. Kathryn breathed a sigh of relief inwardly, but immediately after that, her breathing became labored.

She was the pendant's owner, after all. How the hell was she going to get someone to take the fall for her in less than 24 hours?

Upon noticing her hesitation, Chris' eyes darkened, and he asked, "Why? You can't do it?" His tone was dangerously low, causing Kathryn to snap back to her senses.

She quickly picked up the pendant and said, "No, no. That's not it. Rest assured, Mr. Albert. I'll get to it right away."

With that, she turned to leave. However, after taking a few steps, something occurred to her, and she turned back nervously to ask, "What should I do after finding whoever it is? Do I bring them to you?"

Chris' gaze was cold. "Have Markus deal with them."

As she saw his dark gaze, Kathryn's legs trembled. She nearly fell over.

She knew what having Markus deal with someone meant. It meant that whoever it was would be kicked out of Harborlean. That, or they would never have a future in their line of work anymore.
