ZEPH

I paced the floor of my room, biting my fingers nervously as my gaze darted towards the window. I couldn't tell the time, but I knew it was late, even though the moon was so high in the sky it made everything so bright. I'd never seen the moon shine brighter, and I knew it had to do with being so close to the countryside. Unlike the city where I lived with my parents, where we hardly saw the stars at night, I felt closer to them here.

Looking out through the window, I wondered if Lysander would shut it. Would he bar it and strip me of the freedom to look out whenever I wanted?

Trying not to deviate from my initial thoughts, I stared at the crumbled complimentary card I'd taken from Lysander's room.

My hands shook as hot tears rolled down my face, and I bit down harder on my fingers until I nipped my skin. Gasping, I removed my fingers from my mouth and stared down at the destroyed skin.

Ignoring it, I went closer to the window. Leaning on it, I tried to think of a way to g

ZEPHLysander trailed behind me, a trolley in his hand, pushing it. I glanced back occasionally at him, still amazed by what was happening. When he proposed taking me out, I expected it to be like he did before. When I hardly had time to decide on anything. He had the final word and never let me make any decision. I was just like a puppet to him then, and I blindly followed him, with a smile on my face like the damned fool that he always took me for. He was acting so differently from what I was used to. His fake character was just like a ticking bomb, waiting for the right time to explode.“The fantasy section is on the right.” He pointed out, calling my attention to him, and the present. I had almost forgotten, for a few seconds there, where we were and the reason for it. “Oh.”I changed route at once and started for that area. He followed silently. When we got to the aisle, he leaned on the wall, arms folded, and watched me. I had to pretend I couldn't feel his stare on me as I co

LYSANDER She had seen me. That gaze I had felt before I ran around the house had been hers. Fuck! Why wasn't I careful enough? Why did I think she had gone to sleep? I should have checked on her before I left. 'But she called us Majestic,' Cole said, choosing to take that word from every other thing she had said. It was obvious he didn't care about anything other than that she had called him majestic."That's not the freaking point!" I slammed my fists so hard on the desk, it cracked. I guess I'll have to change the desk for the 100th time since I built this house. "Didn't you see how terrified she was when we stepped in? When she saw my hair, her face turned ashen white!"I couldn't forget that look, not in a million years..it had broken my heart, made it hurt. I hated it, seeing that fear in her gaze. It just wasn't something I wanted to see ever again on her face. 'But we aren't scary. We didn't even hurt her!' "She's a freaking human! Of course, our height would scare her."I

I felt the bed dip before his warm arms wrapped around me like a blanket. “It's okay. There's no monster out there.” He tried to reassure me, his voice soft, as if he were trying to coax a baby. “No.” I shook my head, not about to believe his lies. “I had seen it. The monster. He's… He's… Huge and golden.”I felt him tense, and the grip on my arms tightened. “Oh, you… You saw m… It?” I ignored the nervous stutter and looked up, eyes wide. Knowing someone else saw it made me realize with icy dread that it was actually real. Not that I didn't know that already. "You also saw that.” At that moment, I didn't see him as an enemy. It felt like we were allies with the same enemy; the strange, huge creature. I broke away from his hug so I could sit up on the bed to hear everything, so I wouldn't miss out on a detail.“I'm sorry you had to see it, uh… patrolling.”I frowned, my fear giving in to suspicion. “Patrolling?”He nodded and sat on the bed. “I have been getting disturbing informatio

  • Bringing Him To His Knees: Her Vengeful Rebirth   The full moon

The full moon hung low in the sky, its silvery light casting an eerie glow over the estate. I felt it in my veins, the primal call of the wild. My body began to change, my muscles rippling beneath my skin as the transformation took hold. It was a feeling I'd gotten used to after that first change. I could still recall how painful it had been, the way I had screamed as my bones shifted. Now, I was used to it. Aside from a few discomforts each time I gave into that primal side of mine, I didn't feel that pain anymore. I gritted my teeth, trying to hold on to my humanity, but it was no use. The full moon was too strong. My bones cracked and drifted, my spine elongating as my body contorted in ways that shouldn't have been possible if I were a human. I let out a growl, the sound more animal than man. My vision blurred, and I dropped to all fours, my hands and feet morphing into paws. Fur sprouted from my skin, covering me in a thick, golden coat. I threw my head back and howled; the s

Zeph left my study after eating her cake. A part of me felt sad she didn't initiate any intimacy between us like she always did whenever we were alone. 'And you still don't want to acknowledge her as our —' I pulled down the mental barrier immediately before Cole could complete his question. I wasn't in the mood to entertain him and had to put a stop to this. I sat at my desk and looked towards the window. The moon was partially up, but I could feel the thrill through me. I'd kept off running for two weeks now, and it was telling on me. With the rising of the moon, I was almost restless. I closed my eyes, waiting for the perfect time to leave, when I heard a knock before my door opened. I sat up immediately, gulping, thinking it was Zeph here. As much as I wanted to see her, it wasn't a good time. Soon, my senses would turn primal. She was the last person I would ever wish to see me in such a state. Sage smirked. “Getting ready for the run, brother?” He raised a brow, stepping f
