Chapter 1

작가: Frostveil
At the gathering, Florence Higgins joked about her mushroom poisoning as if it were a funny story.

Everyone around her burst into laughter, but I could not bring myself to smile.

I sat quietly in a corner, eating in silence, trying to chew and swallow the discomfort along with my food.

“Why is Noah so quiet today?” Timothy Holt asked with a grin as he looked at me, every word laced with venom, his intention to embarrass me laid bare.

He was both Michael Connor’s close friend and Lucy Holt’s husband.

“Did that hit too close to home?”

At his words, the group erupted into laughter again.

Timothy and Lucy seemed to set the tone, and soon more people joined in, hurling verbal barbs at me.

“To be honest, you’re pretty lucky.”

“Even if Florence still loves Michael, didn’t she still plan to marry you?”

They took turns trampling on my pride, leaving me no room to defend myself.

I looked at Florence and saw her quietly sipping her tea.

She looked calm and distant, as if everything they said and did had nothing to do with her.

From her attitude, I already understood that this time, too, she wasn’t going to stand up for me.

I had no choice but to fight back.

“As far as I know, Timothy, you weren’t Lucy’s first love either.

“And if Michael is so perfect, why did he vanish without a trace when Florence’s family was on the verge of bankruptcy?”

My words struck at Timothy’s sore spot.

He pointed at me in rage, his voice trembling as he shouted, “You think you have the right to talk to me like that just because you’ve tied yourself to Florence?

“You don’t deserve her.

“If Michael hadn’t gone abroad, do you really think there would have been a place for you by her side?”

With the sharp sound of a glass shattering, the atmosphere in the private room suddenly turned cold.

Florence, who had seemed detached only moments earlier, now radiated icy fury.

The room went deathly still.

Florence turned and grabbed my throat, her face dark with rage.

“Apologize, Noah. And don’t talk about Michael.”

“No. I did nothing wrong,” I said stubbornly.

“Good. Very good,” she replied coldly.

“I’ve been far too kind to you, and now you don’t even know your place.”

Her fingers tightened, and my breathing grew labored.

No one around us stepped forward to help. Every face wore the look of someone enjoying the spectacle.

She often choked me to threaten me, and because she was a woman and I refused to raise a hand against her, I never fought back, no matter how many times she abused me.

Only when I was on the verge of suffocation did someone finally speak up.

“I think that’s enough, Florence. He’s not worth it. Going to prison for killing him wouldn’t be worth it either.”

Florence acted as if she hadn’t heard a word.

Talking about Michael had always been off the table.

The strength in her hands did not loosen at all.

When the others realized they couldn’t stop her and feared I might truly die in her hands and implicate them, they moved forward to pry her fingers from my neck.

“You’ve got a call… Answer it, Florence.”

Michael’s voice cut through the heavy silence.

It was the ringtone he had recorded exclusively for Florence, one she still used even though they had broken up seven years ago.

Only then did Florence release me and immediately answer the call.

I clutched my neck and coughed violently, a deep chill settling in my heart.

Yet Florence focused solely on Michael’s call and did not spare me a glance.

When it came to Michael, she refused to let him wait even a second.

On the other end of the line, Michael’s voice sounded bright and full of energy. “I’m back in the country, Florence. We should meet.”

The air changed instantly, and everyone suddenly became animated.

Soon, they all left the private room, leaving only Timothy behind, standing over me with arrogant disdain.

I was still struggling to catch my breath, the suffocating sensation unbearably painful.

“Weren’t you pretty impressive just now?” he sneered.

“Now that Michael is back, let’s see how long you can keep feeling proud.”

He was savoring my humiliation.

  • Broken Love: His Final Goodbye   Chapter 11

After Florence left that day, she did not truly give up. Instead, she became a presence outside my shop that I could not ignore.Every day, she stood at the entrance with a bouquet, from the first pale light of morning until the streetlamps came on at night, sampling nearly every noodle dish and snack on the menu. Her stubborn persistence left me feeling helpless.Madeline tried several times to drive her away, but I stopped her each time.I figured Florence could stay if she wanted. At worst, she was adding to the shop’s turnover. Money, after all, was something she never lacked. This went on for more than two weeks, until one day the number of customers suddenly dropped. That morning, as I prepared ingredients in the kitchen, I heard Madeline call out to me.“Come take a look at this.”I leaned out of the kitchen and glanced at her.Since Florence had come looking for me, Madeline had grown closer to me.The cash register seemed to have developed a printing obsession, s

  • Broken Love: His Final Goodbye   Chapter 10

In a quiet corner of the city, I opened a small noodle shop. Life moved slowly, so I settled into a routine, opening from ten in the morning until four in the evening. Occasionally, I would close early to accompany my father to the hospital. After some time, the shop’s business began to flourish. I could no longer manage it alone, so I decided to hire an assistant. Madeline Poldark had once been a regular customer. She always picked a corner to sit quietly, typing away on her laptop. I had always found her name lovely. It felt like a pure, innocent presence in the world. When I mentioned it to her, she smiled shyly.Day by day, we grew familiar. When I learned she had struggled to find work while I needed help, I invited her to join the shop. Like me, she had a hearing impairment, though her left ear could still perceive sound. One busy afternoon, I was buried in the kitchen, preparing desserts for sale, when Madeline told me a customer was asking for me by name.

  • Broken Love: His Final Goodbye   Chapter 9

Only I understood that once a heart had been broken, it could never be restored to its original form. Beneath the tranquil sea, hidden currents often surged in silence, unseen and unforgiving.Because of this sudden upheaval, my wedding to Florence had to be postponed for three months. She became obsessed with finding unique wedding ideas and eagerly presented each one to me.“Let’s have a forest wedding! Imagine walking out from between the trees—it would be so romantic!”She spoke with sparkling eyes, as if the entire world hinged on this celebration. Previously, I had arranged every detail of the wedding alone. Whenever I sought her input, she would brush it off, “You decide,” or, “I’m busy, don’t bother me with these little things.”Now, watching her excitement, I offered nothing but emotional support, praising each proposal with sincerity. This seemed to encourage her, and she threw herself into the planning with renewed energy.Once, as she spoke with particular en

  • Broken Love: His Final Goodbye   Chapter 8

When I opened my eyes again, I was already lying in a hospital bed.Florence stayed by my side. When she saw me wake up, her eyes instantly reddened.I instinctively reached up to touch my forehead, and the wound throbbed with pain. The doctor said my head injury wasn’t serious, just a mild concussion. But I had a cracked rib and needed lots of rest.During the days I was unconscious, I had a dream. I dreamed of a child who looked a little like me and a little like Florence, waving at me.“Goodbye, Dad.”I looked at Florence.“Did you have an abortion?”Florence froze. She struggled for an answer, but the guilt in her eyes had already betrayed her.“Why?” I asked weakly.“You need to understand… I’m at a critical stage of my career right now. This isn’t the time to have a child.”I let out a laugh. Whether it was really about her career or because Michael had returned, she knew better than I did.I fell silent, my emotions tangled beyond sorting. That child had co

That evening, Michael arrived at the banquet. Now serving as Florence’s personal assistant, his attendance was entirely natural. He wore a smoky gray tailcoat, and when he glanced at me, he deliberately lifted his chin, a clear provocation. Then I noticed the diamond tie pin fastened above his tie as it sparkled brilliantly. It was the very piece Florence had splurged on just a few days earlier. The final price far exceeded its intrinsic value, and the media buzzed with speculation that she had purchased it to please her fiancé.I nodded at him and silently mouthed, “You don’t deserve her.”Anger creased his forehead, but he was forced to suppress it.The prominent figures of Starhaven were all present that night.Everyone sought to build connections with Avery.Michael dared not act rashly.Florence linked her arm with mine as she conversed with Avery and Mable.“You are still so devoted to one another. It’s truly enviable.”“Not at all, we’re far behind you and Mr. Build

  • Broken Love: His Final Goodbye   Chapter 6

That evening, I announced that I was feeling unwell and returned to my room early. The butler brought me a glass of warm milk, and I instructed him not to disturb me until the next day. Before going to bed, I broke my rule and called Florence, speaking more sweet words than I ever had. Only when I confirmed that she truly was on a business trip out of town did my heart finally settle. After I made sure everyone in the house had fallen asleep, I quietly got out of bed and slipped down the stairs under the cover of darkness.I had already booked a flight to Ganymede two days earlier, and the car I had arranged was waiting for me out back.I moved with extreme caution, careful not to make the slightest sound. As long as I didn’t alert the villa’s security guards, I could leave without incident.I edged forward nervously, but just as my hand closed around the car door handle, a sudden force yanked me violently backward.“Are you really this eager to leave me?” Florence demanded c
