Zachary's bodyguards failed to locate Claire, but her parents, Angus Stewart and Moira Lynch, came knocking on his door.

With obsequious smiles on their faces, they asked him, "Zachary, have you and Claire patched things up yet? When's the next wedding ceremony?"

"It'll happen soon," Zachary said half-heartedly, his gaze lowered.

Seeing his indifference, Angus frowned. He smacked his thigh and ranted, "You don't have to hold it against Claire anymore, Zachary. We've already taught her a lesson the last time she brought up calling off the engagement!"

Startled, Zachary repeated, "You taught her a lesson?"

"That's right! Rest assured, for we're definitely on your side," Angus said hastily. "If she acts up again, I'll make her kneel in front of the house for three days straight! We'll see if she'll still have the nerve to throw a tantrum after that."

Zachary squeezed the glass in his hand so tightly that it shattered.
