Clara’s POV

My brows pulled together in suspicion.

“Does he know you came to see me?” I asked, my voice a bit sharper than I intended.

He shook his head immediately.

“Of course not….”

He paused, taking another glance at the screen.

“Let me quickly take this,” he added before he rose and walked toward the exit.

I let out a soft breath as he finally disappeared, looking around to take a proper view of the coffee shop.

Some of the patrons’ eyes strayed toward me. I wondered what they must hav

Clara's POVSilence swallowed the space between us. I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak—just stared at Damon, shock written all over me. He broke the silence. “The second option, Clara, is having another child. A sibling for Maurice.I let out a laugh, a short humorless sound. “You must be joking Damon you must really be. You know there's no way I'm having a child with you right?”“I'm not joking. The doctor said that's our best chance. It's a thirty five percent success rate versus a five percent from the registry.“I don't care what the chances are Damon, I'm not having a child with you. Not now, not ever.”“Clara…”I crossed my arms, and my jaw tightened. “I said no!” Every word comes out firmly.I paced the room fuming in anger.“How could you contemplate this? Leo and I are getting married. That's my future, not having a baby with you.”He flinched like he was physically hurt by my words.“And you, aren't you married to Camilla?. You want to cheat on your wife?”He gripped his ha

Clara's POV Leo's silence hurt more than it should. I was supposed to feel ease or relief as he realized the truth but instead I felt grief. Grief for crushing his quiet hopes that I was some day going to be his wife. The defeat in his eyes deepened the heaviness in my chest. When the nurse announced another visitor I was grateful for the interruption because the tension was getting bad. The door swung open and a woman who looked to be in her late fifties walked in. Her silver streaked hair was pulled in a tight ponytail with no strand out of place. Her dress and makeup were made to perfection. She walked in with poise and elegance and with a striking gaze that could bore a soul at one glance. Her aura was astonishing like she commanded respect without demanding for it The woman was Aunt Evelyn, Leo’s only family. Her eyes swept the room and they landed on Leo and those hard eyes softened a little. Then she noticed me and I recognized the unmistakable look of disdain, but it di

Leonard’s POV A rhythmic beeping sound was the first thing that pulled me to consciousness. Slowly, I tried to open my eyes, which felt very heavy. The brightness of the room attacked my eyes causing me to let out a groan. I squinted, trying to get accustomed to the brightness. I blinked rapidly to clear the fog of my vision. A white ceiling came into view. The sharp antiseptic smell hit my nose and that confirmed it all for me. I was in the hospital. Moving to sit up on the stiff bed, my muscles wouldn't budge. I felt like I weighed thousands of pounds. The pounding in my head made things worse. From my peripheral vision I noticed movements. I cleared my throat and a figure appeared almost immediately at my side. “Hey Mr Grayson, don't move about just yet.” “I'm nurse Abby, I will tell the doctor you're awake now.” She said softly. “Okay.” I groaned. She closed the door softly. There was an unfamiliar numbness from my waist below which I felt was due to lack

Leonard's POV Rage burned in my heart as I slammed the door. My heart raced as I gasped hard, staring at my steering. She stood by his side, and looking at her only enraged me.I rolled my eyes and planted my leg on the accelerator pedal and the engine roared like thunder, dust raised all over the place and I dashed out of her sight. After all I had done, everything I had done for her, this is how she repaid me back. My mind endlessly replayed the image of Clara and Damon embracing and I bit my lips hard, my grip tightening on the wheels. My heart raced as I accelerated further, I didn't take my leg off that pedal. Why did she embrace him? I kept asking myself. She promised we'd be married, but that's what I got.As I stormed into the road, I kept asking myself. That one question I couldn't answer, the one that just didn't make any sense. How could she have forgiven Damon after everything he'd done to her? Just how. I kept wondering, my mind darting back and forth and still, I coul

Damon's POV The air between us all was heavy and painful and Maurice just stared at her, waiting for his answer. After a long silence, she finally looked at me once again and back at him, her voice changed from rage to a sweet but reluctant one.“Yes… he is your father,” she finally said with a deep sigh.He looked at her, his voice small but firm. I stared at his beautiful face, a child so pure and calm, a child that had to go through all of these just because of my stupidity.“Mommy, I love him and I want my papa,” he stretched his hand forward to me, but I couldn't go. Clara would rather die than see me any closer to her son. She leaned in immediately, looking into his eyes and cried deeply.“Don't forget the truth, Maurice. He's a monster, he left us to die and he's only here because she left him, I know that. We can't trust him, he'll do it again, you know that, right?” Her red eyes stared into his, but his heart was pure and free of hate. He simply replied with a softer respons

Damon's POV The air was heavy with the scent of medicine and the sounds of footsteps thudding against the ground. The constant beeping of machines was all around the place and my heart pounded as I rushed in.I didn’t even lock my car. Sweat rolled down my face as I dashed into the hallway. My eyes scanned every door, searching for Ward 127—the exact room the nurse had told me I would find Maurice in, since his previous room had been taken by another patient. My soul was troubled from everything. My head banged with a splitting headache and I dashed in, clearly shaken after receiving a shocking revelation.I turned around and I couldn't find ward 127.My breath was heavy as I turned back and headed out in pain and defeat, but just outside the pediatric ward, I saw him. There was no mistaking that. Ethan, standing there, perhaps looking for me.I dived right at him, grabbing his shirt, my eyes bulging out and pain surging through my veins.“Where is he?!” My eyes burned with terror. “

Clara’s POV The drive back home had been quiet for a while, the city’s lights moving past us in a complete blur. It wasn’t necessarily uncomfortably, just heavy like there was something unsaid sitting between us. My head rested against the seat, staring blankly out the window as we drove pas
