Zane's Point Of View

My boot scraped the edge of the obsidian ledge, sending a spray of fine black dust down into the dark abyss below. The air on Floor Six was so thin and cold it felt like swallowing crushed ice, every ragged breath burning a path clean down into my chest.

My lungs ached with the effort of keeping pace, and somewhere beneath the pain, a thread of fear coiled tight in my gut... we were running out of floor, and running out of time.

"Keep the pace!" I yelled over my shoulder,

Zane's Point Of View My boot scraped the edge of the obsidian ledge, sending a spray of fine black dust down into the dark abyss below. The air on Floor Six was so thin and cold it felt like swallowing crushed ice, every ragged breath burning a path clean down into my chest. My lungs ached with the effort of keeping pace, and somewhere beneath the pain, a thread of fear coiled tight in my gut... we were running out of floor, and running out of time."Keep the pace!" I yelled over my shoulder, my fingers white-knuckled around the sweat-slicked hilt of my stolen steel blade. "We have two floors left before..."SNAP.The sound was a violent, high-pitched electrical hiss that made the hair on my neck stand straight up.Right between our boots, the floor tore open in a blinding grid of harsh crimson light. Ancient spatial runes flared from the stone, spitting fat sparks that singed through the leather of my trousers."Zane, back!" Ronan's voice shattered the quiet behind me, his hand sho

Zane's Point Of ViewMy boots skidded across the cold obsidian stone, dust kicking up around my shins as I pushed the pace. The air on Floor Six hung cold and thin, sharp enough to bite at the back of my throat like swallowed needles. My chest heaved, every breath burning against my bruised ribs, but I refused to slow down. We'd come too far to stall now. "Keep the pace, Prince!" I shouted over my shoulder, my knuckles turning white around the hilt of my stolen steel blade. "We have two floors left before…" SNAP. The sound wasn't a crack of thunder. It was a sharp, electrical hiss that made the hair on my arms stand straight up, some primal instinct screaming at me a half-second before my mind caught up. Right between our boots, the floor burst into a blinding grid of crimson light. Ancient spatial runes flared out of the stone, spitting sparks that singed the leather of my boots. "Zane, stop!" Ronan roared behind me, reaching out a hand to grab my shoulder. Before his fingers c

The iron hinges of the secondary gate didn't just bend; they groaned with a sound like a dying leviathan, a deep and guttural noise that seemed to rise from the earth itself. A thirty-foot slab of reinforced oak and runic steel buckled inward, spitting jagged iron rivets across the cobblestones like grapeshot. Three human mana-knights in the front row were lifted off their feet by the flying debris, crashing hard against the stone fountain in the center of the square. Their armor screeched against the ancient stone, and one of them didn't rise again. "Hold the brace!" a captain screamed, his voice cracking as he jammed his shoulder against his shield, sweat cutting pale trails through the grime on his face. "Don't give them the street! If they take the avenue, they have a straight line to the plazas!" It was useless. The sheer weight of forty demon-empowered shadow-beasts pressed against the splintering wood. Black, oily smoke poured through the widening cracks, thick with the sten

The air in the Elven Highlands tasted of burnt resin and ozone. High up on the white granite towers of the Alliance Citadel, the stone groaned under the stress of a hundred wind-currents clashing at once. Below the ridge, the pine forests that had stood for six centuries lay reduced to blackened stumps, smoking in the unnatural cold that had rolled down from the weeping sky. The smell of ash clung to everything, seeping into cloaks and armor alike, a bitter reminder of how much had already been lost. General Kaelen pulled the braided leather string of his longbow back until it pressed against the corner of his jaw. Three silver arrows, tipped with holy light spells that hummed like trapped bees, sat notched across his knuckles. His arms ached from hours of held tension, but he did not let it show. Two hundred lives depended on his steadiness. "Hold your drawn breath," Kaelen shouted down the line of two hundred high elf archers lined along the battlements. His voice was sharp, cutt

The sun didn't set. It disintegrated. Across the full expanse of the Eastern Border Wall, the clear blue sky split open like a dying fruit, bruised purple turning in seconds to a deep, sickly crimson. It was a thick, unnatural red that cast no warmth, bleeding through the clouds until the surrounding mountain peaks looked as though they were dripping with fresh gore. Soldiers who had marched for days without rest now stood frozen mid-stride, staring upward, unable to look away from the wound spreading across the heavens. Then came the cold. It hit the battlements not as a breeze, but as a solid wall of frost, snapping banners against their poles and freezing the sweat on the necks of four thousand waiting soldiers. Somewhere below, a young recruit's teeth chattered audibly, though whether from the temperature or from dread, no one could say. Up on the high parapet, the Alpha King stood with his boots planted shoulder-width apart, his heavy steel broadsword resting point-down again

  • Broken by One, Desired by All    367~ It Smells Like A Grave

Ronan's Point Of ViewThe stink of wet copper was everywhere. It filled my nose, coated the back of my tongue, and clung to the back of my throat like liquid lead. I could taste it with every breath, thick and metallic, as if the air itself had turned to blood. I was kneeling on stone so cold it bit straight through my trousers, but I couldn't feel my knees. I couldn't feel my boots. The only thing that existed in the entire universe was the weight slumping against my breastplate, heavy and dead, like a felled tree. "Zane." My own voice didn't sound like me. It was too small, too thin, scraped raw by hours of breathing in dust and fear. I barely recognized it as belonging to a prince, a soldier, a man who had once commanded armies without his voice ever cracking. I dragged my hands up his chest. The fabric of his shirt was torn, soaked through with something dark and sticky that warmed my palms for half a second before turning slick and frigid. I hooked my fingers beneath his armp

Zane's Point Of View I stood there, staring at him at Ronan. He was still silent. Still cold. Like nothing had just shattered between us. That mask he wore, so damn perfect. So empty. Ronan's Point Of ViewCelia’s body was a wreck of tremors and blood, her breath coming in ragged, uneven gasps as she sagged against the chains.
