The campus courtyard buzzed with weekend energy ,music thumping faintly from the dorms, laughter spilling from open windows. Barry leaned against the railing, phone in hand, pretending to scroll while his eyes tracked one person across the lawn.

Brian.

He was sitting under a tree, earphones in, scribbling something in a notebook. His hair fell in loose waves across his forehead, sunlight catching the tips. Every now and then, he’d bite his lip , and Barry would have to look away before his thoughts turned reckless.

He’d seen a lot of people fall for him before, easy smiles, flirty texts, shallow promises. But Brian wasn’t like that. Brian didn’t chase, didn’t fluster. He saw straight through Barry’s charm and met it with quiet indifference.

That only made Barry want him more.

“Still staring?” A familiar voice teased behind him. Carlson.

Barry smirked without turning. “You’d stare too, if you were me.”

Carlson chuckled. “You’ve been trying for months. Maybe he’s just not into you.”
