Author’s POV

"So...she is the one that broke up with you for Alpha Mason," the friend said. "I thought what you guys had was real. I have seen the way she looks at you. I guess I was wrong."

Nate, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, stiffened at the sound of Mason’s name.

“Did she tell you the reason?” the friend added.

“She didn’t, man,” Xavier replied, his face painted with frustration. “She was acting strange… clinging to him like she was being controlled. I have a feeling she didn’t do it of her own free will.” His eyes darkened slightly, his wolf overcome by anger.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you,” the friend said, lowering his voice. “I think her family is homeless now. I drove her to her house and saw some bodyguards throwing their stuff out and beating up her elder brother. I’m just coming from the hospital.”

Xavier’s ears prickled slightly at the word "beating." A growl threatened in his throat. “Do you know the reason?”
