Chapter 2

Author: Tangle H
The moment I stepped out of the study, cold sweat drenched my back.

My uniform clung to my skin.

I ducked into the storage closet next door, locked the door, and finally let myself gasp for air.

My phone was already flooded with dozens of messages from yet another new account.

[Mistress, please don't leave me.]

[What did your puppy do wrong? Your puppy can change.]

[Mistress, please give your puppy another chance.]

This guy, the one I had blocked seventeen times and who kept wagging his tail right back, was the man I had been dating online for two years.

Two years ago, my father was planning to sponsor a school for troubled teens and brought me along for a site visit.

A handful of teenage boys had flipped over desks and cornered the young teacher against the wall.

My temper flared.

I snatched the pointer from the podium and sat down, my long legs sheathed in black stockings. With crimson-painted nails, I tapped the pointer impatiently.

"All of you. Against the wall. Stand up straight."

"No one moves or speaks without my permission."

"Whoever made this mess is cleaning it up."

"We're done when I say we're done."

"Then line up and apologize to the teacher one by one. If I can't hear you, it doesn't count."

That was exactly how I dealt with my cousin whenever my aunt came to visit.

Someone filmed the whole thing and posted it online. My face wasn't visible, but the video somehow went viral.

The comment section went wild:

[She could step on me and I'd say thank you.]

[I want that pointer to end me.]

One anonymous account was more outrageous than all the rest. He showered the video with gifts, then sent me a private message.

[Mistress, do you need an obedient puppy?]

[Mistress, I'll be good!]

I scoffed and almost blocked him.

But then I visited his profile, saw one photo of his abs, and my finger stopped dead in its tracks.

Hmm...?

Playing around a little couldn't hurt, right?

Normally, if any man came within fifteen feet of me, Dad would order his bodyguards to shoot.

But I was still... a normal woman.

Later, we set three rules: no real names, no faces, and no investigating each other's identities. We kept the relationship strictly online.

We used voice messages. We traded body photos.

Two years passed just like that.

We had never met or done anything physical, but we took very good care of each other's secret little kinks.

Then last month... a project my father had guaranteed collapsed, and he disappeared.

I wasn't in the mood for a relationship, so I ended things without giving him a say.

He chased me across seventeen new accounts.

Now, staring at the stack of friend requests, I suddenly lost the nerve to keep blocking him.

This was Cassian Vitale.

If he truly wanted to find someone, he could do it more easily than I could find shoe polish on this estate.

I immediately unblocked him and typed the most prudent response I could manage:

[Fine, puppy. If you want to come back, come back.]

The other side went silent for a full five seconds.

[Mistress? Really?!]

[Your puppy is so happy.]

[Can we play tonight?]

Seeing how obedient he was, all the frustration I had bottled up throughout the day exploded. [Not tonight.]

[I had a bad day. Here's a task for you. Help me trash-talk someone.]

He replied instantly.

[Who dared make you upset?]

[Is it that creditor of yours?]

[Yes.]

[He actually accused me of trying to seduce him, then warned me I wouldn't end well.]

Puppy went quiet for a few seconds.

[Can puppy ask one thing?]

[You really didn't flirt with him at all?]

I narrowed my eyes dangerously.

[Are you questioning me?]

[No!]

[I just think... you don't have to do anything. You look seductive just standing there...]

[Shut up.]

I snorted and continued my rant.

[I even wore the number-one scent on the 'Fragrances East Coast Alpha Males Hate' list, Limpwood, just to keep him away.]

[How could I possibly be flirting with him?]

Puppy immediately pledged loyalty.

[You did the right thing. You have to protect yourself.]

[If he bullies you again, come tell me.]

A brief pause, then he added with considerably less confidence,

[I'll... secretly curse him for you.]

Something warm stirred in my chest, and my mischievous side kicked in.

Perfect.

Then I was going to make him curse himself good and proper.

I hammered the keyboard hard enough to strike sparks:

[He bullied me all day! All day!]

[And the way he looked at me was terrifying, like I was prey that had already fallen into his trap.]

[But you know me.]

[In this world, I only allow myself to be the hunter.]

Puppy: [You're on his territory right now. Puppy doesn't want you to get hurt. Don't go head-to-head with him yet, okay?]

[He's keeping you at the estate probably just to make sure you can't run. When people are watching, he has to put on a tough front...]

I raised an eyebrow.

[Who said you could speak up for him?]

[I was wrong. Puppy will shut up.]

[When we finally meet, your puppy will make him pay for you in person.]

A guilty knot tightened in my stomach. There was no way I dared meet him in person!

But my fingers sent a "waiting for your revenge" sticker.

Puppy: [Mistress, can your puppy ask for one more thing?]

[Go ahead.]

[That Limpwood perfume you mentioned... when we meet someday, could you not wear it?]

[Puppy isn't one of those macho guys, and I would never bully you.]

[But that perfume...]

I blinked.

[What about it?]

Before, whenever I wore it, not a single man dared come near me, not even at boot camp.

The typing indicator blinked on the other end.

Half a minute later, his message finally appeared.

[Puppy might be allergic to it.]

[Be sweet to your puppy. When we meet, wear a little less, okay?]

[You already smell amazing on your own.]

So it was an allergy.

No wonder Cassian's expression had been so off when he smelled the perfume earlier.

I pictured that icy face, his eyes reddening as he begged me to show my puppy a little mercy.

My face blazed.

[Granted.]

[I have to get back to work. Be good on your own, puppy.]

[Yes, Mistress.]

One month later. The Bennett Foundation's charity gala was held once again at the Vitale Family's vineyard. My father used his investment returns to restart the collapsed project. The first grant went, once again, to the same school for troubled teens from two years ago. This time, every account belonging to the school, the partner organization, and the foundation was overseen from start to finish by an independent audit team. And I had finally returned to the life I was meant to have as Miss Bennett. The stylist curled my hair. The maid helped me into a custom-made red dress and black stockings. My father personally opened the jewelry box and selected a pair of ruby earrings that suited me best. Before we left, he handed me the guest list."Sweetheart, would you like to check it over yourself?"I read three lines and my head started to throb."No.""Why isn't this handled by a professional secretary?"My father blinked, then immediately took the list back."Right.""My daughter doesn'

Messages from seventeen unfamiliar accounts bombarded my phone.[Mistress, look outside your window!]Outside, Cassian Vitale stood in the rain.No bodyguards. No driver. No gun at his waist.Even the Don's ring that never left his hand was gone.He stood there in a rain-soaked black shirt, wearing the black leather collar I'd once ordered him to put on.Tied to the collar was an oversized pink bow. When the wind blew, two pink ribbons fluttered against his sharp jawline in a picture of utter misery.More absurd still, behind him sat a package nearly half his height.A pink ribbon, tied in a bow.To say it clashed with the Don of the East Coast's image would be an understatement. It looked like something one of his enemies had gift-wrapped specifically to humiliate him. When Cassian saw me open the curtain, he immediately stepped back.He didn't come closer. He simply lowered his head and took out his phone.A moment later, my screen lit up.[Mistress, there are mosquitoes out here.][

After the vineyard incident, I took an entire month's leave from the estate. That same evening, a friend suddenly texted me."Lia!""Turn on the news!"A face I thought I'd never see again appeared on the TV screen. My father, Daniel Bennett, stood in a conference hall on the West Coast. He had lost a lot of weight.Behind him stood lawyers and independent auditors, with a full row of bank statements and investment documents on display."I never misappropriated the charitable project funds."I bolted upright. My father explained that the real problem was the partner organization behind the school. He had trusted them, using his personal assets and the Bennett family's holdings as collateral. The collateral covered the fifty million dollars the Vitale Family had invested in the project. When the project collapsed, the partner had already secretly transferred its assets. My father hadn't run off with the money. He had taken his last unfrozen personal funds to the West Coast to close a me

By now, how could I not understand? In front of the convoy, the moment I sent a message, he had turned and looked straight at me.The last-minute staff outing.A table full of dishes only puppy and I would have known about. Then there was the contact name on his phone: my real name, saved there long ago.Cassian had known all along. He had known from the start that the woman who owed him fifty million dollars and bumbled through maid work at his estate was the same Mistress who had bossed him around like a puppy online for two years.Only me.Like an idiot, I had thought my disguise was airtight.By day, the Don punished me by making me redo the wine cellar inventory.By night, I ordered my puppy to put on a collar and kneel.By day, the Don warned me not to even think about seducing him.I turned right around and tattled to puppy, ranting about how my creditor was violent and cruel. And he had the audacity to defend himself with a straight face! The more I thought about it, the angrie

Halfway through the meal, heat flooded my body.Oh... I forgot. Alcohol always made my body hypersensitive.Being a wine connoisseur didn't mean I could hold my liquor. After all those delicious bites, my cheeks were already burning.I yanked at my uniform collar in irritation and squinted around the table, searching for water.Nothing.I'd finished the lemon soda ages ago.Instinctively, I turned to look at Cassian beside me.He hadn't touched much of the food since it arrived. He didn't seem to be doing too well either.A flush showed through his skin, reaching even the side of his neck.I knew why.Served him right. That was what he got for insisting on sitting next to me.My gaze fell on the glass near his hand.Clear liquid.Ice cubes.Water! While his eyes were closed and he was massaging the bridge of his nose, I snatched the glass and gulped down most of it.The next second, my eyes flew wide open.I erupted into a coughing fit!A hand shot over immediately and took the glass a

The convoy arrived at the Vitale Family's countryside vineyard.A group of guards stood in front of the menu board in the courtyard, collectively lost for words."Barolo braised beef cheek, Marsala mushroom ragout, vodka cream pasta...""Why does even the baked apple pie have a bourbon glaze?""We've got armed patrols this afternoon. Is the boss trying to get everyone drunk first?"Another guard pointed at the dessert section."Rum baba, marsala tiramisu, cherry brandy tart.""Great. He didn't even spare the desserts.""What's gotten into the boss lately?"Someone leaned in and whispered conspiratorially,"He's in love, obviously.""Last time, after we handled that shipment at the docks, I saw the boss staring at his phone and grinning like an idiot.""Grinning so wide I could see his back teeth. For a full three minutes."Everyone looked horrified at once."Are you sure he wasn't reading somebody's hit list?"Cassian gave them one cold look. The guards snapped to attention."The grape
