"Hey," he whispered, voice rough from disuse. His fingers weakly reached for mine.

"You're—" I choked, unable to finish. "You're really—"

"I'm here," he said, squeezing my hand with what little strength he had.

Something broke inside me. Six days of fear and grief came crashing down at once. I made a sound I didn't recognize—half sob, half scream—and threw myself forward, burying my face against his neck.

"You're here," I sobbed, my entire body shaking so hard I could barely speak. "You're here, you're awake, you came back."

His arms came around me, weak but solid. Real. Alive.

"Hey...Hey...I'm right here," he murmured, his hand finding the back of my head, cradling it against him. "I'm okay, sweet girl. I'm okay."

I couldn't stop crying, couldn't catch my breath between sobs. His hospital gown grew wet with my tears but I couldn't pull away, I sat up and couldn't stop touching him, my hands clutching at his sh

The formal debriefing took place in the main conference room with all the pack leaders present. Alexei stood at the head of the table, looking every inch the Crown Prince despite his exhaustion."Status report," he began. "All Pure Blood Order facilities have been eliminated. The coordinated strikes were successful.""Casualties?" Alpha Drake asked."Minimal on our side," Carson reported. "Hunter's injuries were the most severe, but he's recovering well.""Royal Pack lost two guards in the assault on the leadership compound," Alexei added grimly. "They died serving all our territories.""They'll be honored at the victory celebration," I said firmly.Alpha Sinclair leaned forward. "What about the network? How extensive was this thing?""Larger than we initially thought," Alexei replied. "Active cells in twelve territories, over two hundred individuals involved at various levels.""Two hundred?" Beta Connor looked shocked.

I woke up before Carson, which wasn't unusual, but the way he was lying told me his shoulder was bothering him more than he'd admit. He was on his back instead of his usual side, and there was tension around his eyes even in sleep."Carson," I said softly, running my fingers through his hair. "How's the shoulder?""Fine," he mumbled, not opening his eyes."Liar." I sat up, studying the bandage. There was some blood seeping through. "When did you last take pain meds?""Don't need them.""That wasn't what I asked."Carson finally opened his eyes, giving me that look that said he thought I was being ridiculous. "It's just a few stitches, Astraia.""It's eight stitches, plus claw wounds, plus you lost blood." I got out of bed, heading for the medical supplies Dr. Eden had sent us home with. "Sit up.""I don't need—""Sit. Up."Something in my tone must have convinced him, because he actually did it without more

The minutes crawled by. Hunter's breathing was steady but shallow, and occasionally his brow would furrow like he was fighting through bad dreams.Carson sat forward in his chair, elbows on his knees, studying his Beta's face for any sign of consciousness."Remember when he broke his arm falling out of that tree when we were twelve?" Carson said suddenly, his voice barely above a whisper.Troy's mouth twitched in what might have been a smile. "He was trying to impress that girl from Crescent Valley Pack.""Sarah Morrison," Carson nodded. "He swore he could climb higher than any of us.""And then proceeded to fall twenty feet into a thornbush," Troy added. "Cried like a baby but insisted it didn't hurt.""Sounds like Hunter," I said softly.Carson reached out and adjusted Hunter's blanket unnecessarily. "He's always been stubborn as hell. Refused to admit when he was hurt, when he needed help.""Some things never change," Troy m

Carson was up immediately, carefully pulling on clothes. I followed, my heart pounding. Something in Jason's tone had set off every alarm bell I had."What happened?" I asked as we hurried down the corridor, but Jason's grim expression told me everything I needed to know.Dr. Martinez was waiting for us in the medical wing, still in his surgical scrubs. Blood stained his sleeves, and exhaustion lined his face. He'd been operating for hours."How is he?" Carson asked immediately, his Alpha voice barely controlled.Dr. Martinez hesitated for just a moment too long. "Stable," he finally replied. "But it was touch and go for a while there."My stomach dropped. "What do you mean, touch and go?""The leg was more complicated than we initially thought. We had to repair several torn ligaments, reset the bone, and there was significant nerve damage. We managed to save the function, but..." He paused, choosing his words carefully. "He'll walk fine onc

The High Crest medical wing was buzzing with activity when we got back. Hunter was rushed straight into surgery while the rest of us got patched up in the main treatment area."Sit still," Dr. Eden ordered Carson, who kept trying to get up and check on everyone else."I'm fine," he insisted for the tenth time. "It's just a scratch.""It's eight stitches," she replied, threading the needle. "And you're bleeding through your shirt."I was on the next bed over, getting my own cuts cleaned. Nothing serious, just scrapes and bruises from crawling through tunnels and falling through ceilings. But I kept watching Carson, making sure he was really okay."Luna," Dr. Eden called to me. "How's your head feeling? Any dizziness? Nausea?""I'm good," I said. "Just tired."Troy was across the room, getting his ribs wrapped. He looked like hell, but he was talking to one of the nurses, so that was a good sign."Update on Hunter?" Carson asked when Dr. Eden finished with his stitches."Still in surger

"Hunter! Wait!" I screamed, looking desperately at the setup. "Carson, the support beams! If we bring down that section of ceiling instead of the overload..."Carson's eyes immediately found the structural weak points. "It'll crush the array without needing anyone to stay!""Tactical charges!" I yelled to the team pouring in behind Carson. "Controlled demolition!""Can we get clear in time?" Hunter asked, stepping back from the override."If we move fast," Carson said, his team already placing explosives on the support columns.Mitchell's hand hit the activation switch just as the charges detonated. But instead of the signal firing, the ceiling collapsed, crushing the array under tons of concrete and steel. The activation failed. The signal died before it could start."Signal array destroyed," someone called through the comms. "All other facilities report successful shutdowns. Network is down."The building shook again, harder this time."Structural charges," Carson said. "They're dro
