Seven

"I honestly don't like her at all," Julie spoke as she sat beside Mila. The professor had not come yet to the lecture, so the girls used the opportunity to chitchat.

"Same, I don't know what Emma sees in her, this troubles me." Mila sighed, opening her notebook and writing the date.

"Are you still going to the party?" Julie asked her.

"Only to keep my eyes on Emma."

"I don't know if I should come or not." Julie thought out loud.

"Come, I don't want to be alone at that party, I know Emma would be busy with her new friends."

"I will think about it," Julie told Mila, earning a nod from her.

"I want you to meet Leila and Hannah. We share a flat together," Julie said with a smile on her face.

"Sounds good to me. I have a shift today from 4 to 10, if they are free after we finish our lectures today then we can meet," Mila suggested.

"Sounds like a plan," Julie agreed.

After two lectures, Julie and Mila went to meet the girls in a café near college. Julie decided to go to the party with Mila, just for the sake of having fun and helping Mila with keeping an eye on Emma. The two girls sat down in a booth and waited for the others to arrive. Mila messaged Emma and told her about meeting Julie's friends and asked her if she wanted to come, but Emma told her that she was meeting Cole after her lectures.

"And I also need to see that Cole guy that she is having a crush on," Mila pointed out, setting her phone down on the table. Since he was from the same group as Ariana, that was enough to make Mila have cold feet about him.

"Aren't you a little overprotective when it comes to Emma?" Julie questioned.

"Well... look, there are a lot of things you don't know about my friendship with Emma, and trust me I don't mind enlightening you, but I don't think it's my place to tell. It all concerns Emma more than it concerns me, so I don't think I should be talking about the reasons why I'm protective over Emma," Mila explained, looking at Julie who was smiling at Mila. "What?" Mila gave her a confused look.

"It's just... you're a true friend and Emma is really lucky to have you in her life," Julie stated, still smiling.

Leila came first and sat down beside Julie. "Hello, you must be Mila, I've heard a lot about you! All good, of course," Leila greeted Mila.

"Hey! Are you Leila or Hannah?" Mila smiled at the cheerful girl before her.

"I'm Leila, the late one is Hannah, and let me tell you something, Hannah is always late, don't tell her I told you that though, because she won't hesitate to kill me in my sleep." Leila giggled a little as she talked, causing Mila to giggle as well. She was always cheerful and rarely would anyone find her upset.

"You remind me of princess Merida!" Mila exclaimed, referring to her curly ginger hair.

"Not the first one to tell me that!" Leila grinned. She was a green-eyed-ginger-girl with pale skin. As the girls were talking, a tall blonde girl walked towards them and sat down.

"Sorry, I'm late," she apologized.

"Tell us something we don't know," Julie mocked her.

"Oh shut up." she rolled her eyes. "I'm Hannah," she introduced herself to Mila.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Mila." Mila smiled at her.

The four girls had lunch together and kept chatting with each other. Mila enjoyed their company and so did they. They were different from each other, yet alike and that was something that made them capable of getting along and quickly bond.

Around 3:15 Mila left since she had a shift at the library. She enjoyed her job so much because she loved recommending books to people and she even enjoyed arranging books. She also had the privilege of reading anything she wanted whenever she had free time and that was more than enough for her. She applied for a lot of other jobs, but she was not expecting any quick reply being only a freshman, however, she found no problem in trying.

During her one-hour break, Mila got her notebook out of her backpack and picked out one of her favourite fine-liners pens from her pencil case, and started to write.

Hello future version of me,

I don't know if I can say we have met before or not, but it doesn't matter. I mean, would it make a difference? I guess not. This is a letter the young version of you is writing to you.

I hope you're doing well in your life. Have you achieved your dreams? Did you make it? I hope you did. And if you don't, just know that I'm proud of you because, knowing you, I know you've given any task your all.

Do you still have insecurities? I hope not. There is no need to have them really. You are just used to seeing yourself every day and when someone is used to seeing something, they fail to see the beauty within it.

Did you make a family? Did you find your dream man? I'm so excited about this part because I've never seen myself as the good mum since I'm not so patient with children, but I hope this all has changed. You're my older self, I expect you to be wiser. Are you living a happy life? Did you marry the love of your life? You know that I'm writing this and I'm eighteen, yet I have never met him? I hope your life is just as beautiful as I've always wished it would be!

I just wanted to see how life is going with you, I know that you've been through so many challenges, but you and I were and will never be the ones to give up. Calm yourself down when you're angry, don't be too hard on yourself like I've always been. Forgive yourself when you make a mistake, you're not the mistakes you make. Take good care of yourself and I wish you all the best.

Till we meet again in our subconscious,

Your younger self.

Before she knew it, her one-hour break was over. She put her stuff back in her backpack and went to continue working. As she walked along the alleys of books she saw a guy who could not be more than 21 looking around; he looked lost.

"May I help you?" she asked him politely.

"Oh yes please, I was looking for The Great Gatsby," he told her. He had black hair and caramel coloured eyes. She found herself staring at him for a moment then quickly looked away.

"Y-yeah, it is available. Reading or borrowing?" She asked him, mentally slapping herself for stuttering in front of him. The library had copies of the books for reading and copies for borrowing, so it was actually a bookstore and a library.

"What do you suggest?" He smiled at her. His smile was charming and captivating.

"Snap out of it," she mentally scolded herself.

"I prefer owning the books, so I can do whatever I want with them," she answered him. Her heart was beating a hundred times faster. She was never like that around any guy, why was that one different? Maybe because he was asking about her favourite classic? That must be the reason, she thought.

"Then I'd like to buy a copy, please." He gave her that charming smile again, making her stomach twist in nervousness.

"Okay." She smiled at him as she brought the copy and handed it to him.

"Are you new here, Mila?" he asked her, taking a quick glimpse at her name tag.

"Yeah, I haven't completed my first month yet," she told him as she adjusted her ponytail.

"I'm Blake, by the way, I guess I will see you around. The ponytail suits you." He smirked at her before leaving. Her mouth parted a little and her hand reached for her hair subconsciously. For the very first time in a while, Mila was speechless and a guy was the reason behind that.
