Chapter 1

Author: Cotton Wood
At our marking ceremonies, my best friend's mate and mine both chose their childhood friend over us. However, after we turned to leave, they begged for forgiveness and pleaded with us to come home.

"Ellie, you look absolutely beautiful today." Roxanne Reed helped me arrange my dress, her eyes sparkling with genuine warmth.

Tomorrow was my marking ceremony with Lucian Nightshade. After being offered to the werewolf pack as a human, Lucian had given me protection and status.

Despite the pack elders' fierce opposition, he still wanted me to become his Luna. He also planned to officially mark me at tomorrow's ceremony.

I smiled mischievously. "Roxanne, I think Aiden will probably mark you soon too. Don't you think?"

"Then congratulations to both of us for finding happiness!" Roxanne and I hugged each other, teasing one another playfully.

However, this joy was immediately shattered by an unwelcome visitor.

"May I come in, future Luna?"

Seraphina Whitmore pushed the door open, her face even paler than the white dress she wore. "I came to offer you my blessings. Luke has waited 18 years for you. You deserve the best."

The name "Luke" felt like a barely perceptible thorn that pricked me lightly.

"Thank you." I maintained a polite smile.

"He used to be so lonely…" She began to lose herself in her memories. "Especially when he was taking care of me. My wolf has been weak since I was young. He spent so much of his primal energy keeping me alive.

"I'm just… I'm just so worried. What if my body acts up again later and disrupts your ceremony? What would we do then?"

"You think Lucian would abandon his Luna for you?" Roxanne shouted angrily.

Seraphina coughed weakly several times. Suddenly, she collapsed to the ground like a falling leaf, only to be caught by Lucian, who came running.

"Luke, I only wanted to offer Luna my blessings. My body's just too frail," she said weakly.

Before leaving, Lucian looked at me with disappointment. "You're about to become Luna. You need to learn to care for pack members. Don't bring those bad human habits into the pack."

That was the first time he had expressed dissatisfaction because of my human identity.

Roxanne immediately kicked over the clothes on the floor. "Seraphina was clearly warning you that she's going to cause trouble tomorrow!"

"That's what I think too," I said, feeling my heart sink.

Roxanne's gaze hardened. "We can't just sit here waiting for disaster to strike. Their advantage is also their weakness. I'm talking about their sense of smell. I got some herbs that can temporarily numb their senses when burned."

She pulled an inconspicuous small sachet from her pocket. "We'll carry this with us, just in case. If she dares to ruin your ceremony, we'll help her ruin it more thoroughly, then escape in the chaos!"

I gripped the sachet tightly in my hand.

"Alright," I said while looking at Roxanne, feeling determined. "Just in case."

Lucian, you'd better not let me down.

In Nightshade Group's top-floor office, Aiden furiously smashed the tablet in his hands to the floor. "Have these humans lost their minds? They're declaring war on us and turning our story into a movie!"Lucian said nothing. He simply stared at the project page's tagline."Dedicated to all queens who break free from their chains and crown themselves."His fingertips unconsciously traced my photo on the screen. My face radiated a resolute and brilliant light he had never seen before. He finally understood. Two years ago, he had personally shattered my trust. Then two years later, he was trying to forge a new cage from golden bars.I had chosen to plant a garden of thorns and roses from the wreckage. This movie was my declaration of war against him. And the dragon that needed to be resisted and defeated was Lucian himself."You see…" Lucian suddenly smiled bitterly, his voice carrying an endless mix of regret and a trace of pride that he didn't even recognize."I once promised to

My instincts were right. Lucian's counterattack came swiftly. The next day, my talent agency issued an official statement stating that last night's live stream was a misunderstanding. Immediately after, the company's ownership changed hands, making Lucian my boss in every sense of the word. The company completely buried me. Without my consent, he canceled the independent art film I'd been preparing for six months and desperately wanted to star in. He had all my talk shows and interviews canceled, even paying breach-of-contract fees.He signed my biggest competitor, pouring unlimited resources into promoting her while bribing media outlets to release damaging stories about me. He even arranged for people to monitor Roxanne and me around the clock, trapping us in our apartment with nowhere to go.Roxanne and I looked at the vicious rumors on our phones, then at the mountain of luxury jewelry and gift boxes from Lucian and Aiden piled on our coffee table."Bastards!" Roxanne slammed

Now, we were both in human society, and I was no longer the person who could only run away after being betrayed. The live stream had been forcibly cut off, but Lucian's troubles were just beginning. One of his subordinates' expressions changed dramatically as he hurried forward, thrusting a tablet in front of Lucian's eyes. His voice trembled with fear."Alpha, the internet… public opinion has exploded! 'Nightshade Group,' 'abuse of power,' and 'Eleanor's cry for help' have topped the trending topics! Our stock price has started showing abnormal fluctuations!"Stock prices? Public opinion? I saw a brief flash of confusion in Lucian's eyes before it was immediately replaced by deeper fury. The Alpha, who had never faced setbacks, was finally receiving his first life lesson in human society."Clarify this," he commanded coldly, not to his subordinate, but to me."Keep dreaming, Lucian." I held up my phone, stepping backward until I stood shoulder to shoulder with Roxanne.I sneere

Under Lucian's puzzled gaze, I unlocked my phone, and a bright red live stream button instantly lit up. His pupils contracted sharply when he saw that.I held up my phone and faced the camera with a professional, sweet, and innocent smile. "Hi, my dear fans. Good evening. I seem to have run into a little trouble."I slowly turned the camera toward Lucian, clearly showing the face that could drive women worldwide crazy on millions of screens."Let me introduce you all to this handsome gentleman, my newly appointed boss. And right now, he's cleared out my celebration party and told me that everything I have belongs to him."I blinked, and I filled my voice with just the right amount of so-called fear and helplessness. "So… everyone, it looks like I've encountered a new boss who really wants to abuse his power over me. What should I do? I'll be live, waiting for your advice. It's pretty urgent."At that moment, I clearly saw Lucian lose his composure for the first time.Welcome to

Two years later, at a movie celebration party, I heard Lucian speak up coldly, instantly freezing the entire celebration hall. "Eleanor, come back with me."The music stopped abruptly. I could even hear my own heart pounding like crazy drums. The pain of being abandoned at the altar two years ago resurfaced.Lucian appeared before me, his eyes filled with determination. That breathtakingly sculpted face showed no emotion whatsoever. Just then, Roxanne stepped in front of me, looking like a mother leopard ready for battle."Lucian," she snarled his name through gritted teeth. "This isn't your territory. Go back to your pack!""It is now."With his words, dozens of men in black suits appeared silently, politely but unquestionably "escorting" all the guests away. In less than three minutes, what had been a bustling celebration became a gilded cage.Only the four of us remained. Aiden loosened his tie and sneered. "Lucian, why waste words? Just drag them back to the pack.""Aiden.

Under the gaze of the entire pack, the Alpha and the warrior both made their choices right in front of Roxanne and me.Lucian released me and walked toward Seraphina. He placed his hand on her heart, and golden primal energy gently enveloped her.It was a glory that should have been mine. When the mate bond was established, Lucian and Aiden both turned around, wanting to approach us. It was as if they wanted to explain themselves. However, I no longer wanted to listen. I raised my hand and resolutely tore off the veil from my head."Lucian," I called out as I looked at him, my voice terrifyingly calm. "We're over."I extended my hand toward Roxanne. She immediately understood, lighting the sachet and smashing it on the ground. Acrid smoke instantly filled the air."Damn it, what's that smell?""My eyes are burning!""What did they light?"The pungent smoke threw the scene into instant chaos. The werewolves lost their prized vision and sense of smell, while Roxanne and I escape
