I looked up and found her assistant brushing off her designer outfit like I was a bag of dirt, but Kathy shoved the poor girl aside, fuming.
"I-I'm so sorry," I stammered, ashamed. Everyone was watching now-and worse, Mr. Bruno had just walked into the department.
He stopped right there. He was watching the scene too.
I cursed in my mind and squeezed my hands nervously. Please, let the earth open and swallow me.
"Do you know how much this designer outfit cost me, you fat imbecile?!"
Kathy thundered again.
"Enough with the name-calling, Kathy! She said she's sorry. And her name is Beauty, not 'fatty.' If her body type is what you call fat, then I'd say you're just jealous."
Jessie jumped in, standing right beside me.
Kathy turned to Jessie with a look of disdain.
"Easy for you to say. She's too fat to fit into this building-bumping into people like that. Who does that? Very irritating. And don't even start about jealousy-please, don't make me puke. Who envies a bag of fat?"
She sneered.
I tried to walk away to my post, holding back tears, but Kathy clearly wasn't done.
"Don't you dare walk away from me, you big bag of pudding!"
My fingers curled into a fist.
I was so angry and annoyed, unable to hold it in anymore-I snapped out loud.
"I'm fat! Yeah, I know. And ugly too. That I am very aware of!
Find something else to hurt me with, Kathy, because I'm not hurt by those words anymore. Go on, try something else!
Kathy, you are so perfect, and I am not. That's outdated-torture me with something else!"
I said that boldly, but my emotional expressions told a different story. My legs were visibly trembling, and my face was flooded with tears, my hands shaking nervously.
Kathy noticed.
She sighed deeply, with a soft chuckle.
"You're crying like a baby again? Thought you would grow up. Well, I'm satisfied with the result. Fatty, next time look before stepping on my toes."
She snapped with a warning finger.
"You're irritating, Kathy. You think bullying is so fun? What a childish bitch you are! She is healthy, not fat. Maybe you should eat more, bitch!"
Jessie snapped angrily.
Kathy didn't give a damn-she chuckled out loud.
"Well, I am the beauty standard, honey. It's a hard pill to swallow."
She turned to her crew.
"Let's go, everyone. Next time, avoid me, Fatty."
She warned and left with an elegant walk, as though she were on a runway.
The press crew and journalists who had been waiting for her interview followed her like puppies.
I stood there not knowing what else to do. I couldn't even raise my face to look anyone in the eyes-
Not even Bruno. He heard everything, quite clearly.
"I am such a... mess,"
I murmured and walked slowly toward the restroom. Jessie followed me immediately.
As soon as I got to the restroom, I slammed the door, crying my heart out.
"Open the door, Beauty,"
Jessie said, knocking on the door.
"You should stop calling me that!"
I snapped through tears.
"But it's your name..."
Jessie said softly.
"I hate it... It's just the opposite of who I am!"
I yelled back.
Jessie felt that hard.
"Stop being such a baby. Do you know how you sound? You sound like a heartbroken toddler! You are beautiful, and your name suits you. Now, can you at least let me in, please?"
Jessie replied.
I hesitated, but she was right.
What am I crying for? I'm used to this. Crying isn't the answer. It won't make the bullying stop either.
I eventually opened the door slowly.
"Don't start with your sermons. I'm not crying because of what she said. I was just... crying because..."
Jessie hugged me before I could finish.
"Now, speaking of celebrating uniqueness, let's talk about the fashion show last week. You designed an entire collection for plus-size models, and it was phenomenal. Let's roll the clip!"A montage plays on the big screen: models of all sizes strutting the runway in vibrant, stylish outfits designed by Beauty. The crowd in the video cheers wildly, and the models look ethereal.Beauty smiles at the clip. The audience in the studio claps and cheers as the video ends."That was stunning, Beauty. The colors, the energy, the confidence-it was incredible. What was it like for you, seeing your designs come to life like that?"Beaming, Beauty responds, "It was emotional. I saw women of all shapes and sizes owning that runway, wearing clothes that celebrated their beauty instead of hiding it. Afterward, moms and daughters came up to me saying, 'Thank you for making us feel seen.' Moments like that remind me why I do this. It's also healing for my inner child."The audience bursts into applause.
"You know, I used to feel that way. I'd look at him and think, 'Why me? Why would someone like him want someone like me?' But then I realized something important: we all deserve love, respect, and support, no matter what we look like. Bruno makes me feel like I'm not just enough-I'm everything he's ever wanted. And that's how love should feel. So, I think he's the lucky one-and I feel the same about him too. He's my everything."The audience erupted into cheers."That's so sweet!" Helen said, fanning her face dramatically. When the cheers died down, Helen continued, "Now, Beauty, you're such an inspiration to so many women. What would you say to young girls-or anyone, really-who feels insecure about their bodies?"Beauty paused, looking serious now. "I'd like to say: I feel you, honey. I understand you. I was you. Please, be kind to yourself. The world is tough enough without you being your own worst critic. Celebrate the things that make you unique-your smile, your style, your sense
3 MONTHS LATER"Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for a beauty and a fashion-designing genius herself, Beauty Hills! And might I add, the soon-to-be Mrs. Bruno-the man who has every rom-com writer throwing their scripts in the trash."Beauty Hills entered the stage with confidence, wearing a liquid-like luxury red gown that hugged her curves. The applause grew louder as soon as she came into sight. She blushed slightly and waved, taking a seat beside the host."Lemme start by saying you look so gorgeous tponight! I love your outfit, make up everything! Congrats on your engagement too...you are so sweet and amazing.""Thank you, Helen! You're making me sound way cooler than I actually am". Beauty said with a smile."Oh, stop! You're out here designing for plus-size women, making waves in the fashion industry. In just three months, F&F's popularity has skyrocketed because of your designs, and you landed Bruno. If that's not cool, I don't know what is."Beauty smiled back."Thanks a lot,
Bruno froze. His instincts screamed that something was off. He rubbed the back of his neck. "You're not wearing your engagement ring," he said pointing at her finger "That's because it no longer fits," Shelley whispered, leaning closer. "This feels wrong. There's no way you could slim down within hours. And why are you trying so hard to make me believe your Beauty? This is a prank, right?" Bruno asked, looking around for clues. "So you don't believe me?" Shelley asked, disappointment evident in her voice. "As a matter of fact, no. It's ridiculous!" Bruno replied. "I'm ridiculous? Is that how you see me? I thought you loved me for real." Bruno was speechless for a moment, unsure of what to say. Just as he was about to respond, the car door opened abruptly. "That's enough, Shelley." Beauty stepped out. She wore a stunning midnight-blue gown, her brown eyes accentuated with the same makeup Shelley had on. Her dark curls cascaded down her shoulders, soft and shin
The Hathaway mansion buzzed with the energy of a grand evening celebration of Bruno's birthday. The sprawling lawn was adorned with fairy lights draped across the hedges and fountains, while elegant jazz music floated through the air, played by a live band stationed in the corner of the grand hall. Guests-including businessmen, celebrities, some members of the F&F team, and models were dressed in designer gowns and suits-mingled, their laughter blending with the clinking of champagne glasses.Bruno Hathaway, however, stood near the entrance of the hall in his best outfit and a new haircut, styled by his exclusive stylist for the birthday spectacle.A glass of wine swirled in his hand impatiently. His ocean-blue eyes were fixed on the gate entrance as he checked his watch for the fifth time in ten minutes."Where is she?" he murmured under his breath, his jaw tightening as he took a sip of wine, trying to calm down and be more patient. The party was about to start, and the driver he h
"Don't do it," Grandma teased, covering the eyes of his two underage cousins.Beauty was melting with shyness, wishing this could be a dream she never woke up from. Steven was watching, though."Silence, guys. Don't interrupt," Bruno said to his young cousins before pulling her in for a kiss. And they kissed. The champagne popped, and Beauty's ears turned red with excitement.Soon, well-wishers and coworkers started arriving with their birthday gifts for Bruno. None of them were surprised to see her there. Because of their viral video, however, they looked like they had a lot of questions.Beauty told Bruno she wanted to go home and return for the night party, as her parents must be worried. He accepted without hesitation."Don't stay long, please," he said."I won't," she smiled back. They kissed again before she left.In Bruno's car, Beauty couldn't contain her excitement. She kept imagining how her parents would react to her ring-and also Jessie's reaction too. She smiled, admiring
Jessie approached Beauty's house and rang the doorbell. She hadn't seen her best friend, Beauty, since their Puerto Rico vacation, and she couldn't wait to hear all about her romance with Bruno. She dialed her number, but it wasn't going through, so she rang the bell again."Beauty, open up!" A few minutes later the door opened, and standing before her was... Beauty? But not quite. A slimmed-down, different version of her friend stared back at her.Jessie's jaw dropped so dramatically it might as well have hit the ground."WHAT IN THE NAME OF GREEN SMOOTHIES HAPPENED TO YOU?"Jessie shrieked, clutching her chest as though she'd just seen a ghost."Um, excuse me?"Shelley blinked, confused.Jessie's eyes widened further, as if they might pop out of her head "Oh.
It took a lot of pleads and effort for Bruno to get Beauty back there. As soon as they arrived at the dining table, Bruno noticed his uncle's face suddenly darken, followed by his aunt's, but neither of their reactions bothered him.As long as Beauty was there with him, nothing else mattered."You should cut your cake already, Bruno. Let's take pictures, Couz," Korra, his second cousin, immediately said upon seeing them. They returned to their seats, and his mom served food to Beauty herself, something that surprised Bruno. She hardly ever served food to anyone, so this must have been influenced by Grandma."Thanks," Beauty whispered to his mom.Bruno could tell Grandma had probably done a lot of talking to make this happen."She needs more plates, though," Nathan muttered-not loud enough to be unnoticed, but Bruno overheard him anyway, his attention focused on Nathan."It's my birthday; I don't know why a cow was invited,
To Beauty, Abigail was undeniably a very beautiful lady. Just like her brother she naturally looks stunning. Her full, long dark hair was the most beautiful part of her, and her body proportions were insane."Can I talk with you?" Abigail asked slowly.Beauty got nervous but knew she had to pull herself together and listen."Sure," Beauty replied quickly, curious about what she had to say.Yes, she was nervous, but at the same time excited. She wasn't sure what Abigail wanted to talk about, but her friendly approach gave Beauty some hope.Abigail walked toward her, holding a cold glass of chilled wine in a royal, elegant way, and stretched it toward Beauty."Here, you need this," she said, smiling softly.Beauty panicked a little."Alcohol?" she asked slowly, quickly thinking of a lie, not wanting to be judged again.Abigail nodded."I... don't drink," Beauty lied, scratching her hair nervou
