Noah lifted the glass to his lips as he watched Ryan and Tally on their wedding day. Noah was happy for his friend and Tally was a lovely woman.

It made a change for his friend to have to pursue anyone. Usually the women were chasing him. But in Tally’s case, Ryan had had the hots for her long before she had realized her feelings for him. Noah had listened to his friend talk about Tally for the last year. Like she walked on water or something.

Ryan had struggled on how he was going to break it to Tally about her cheating ex, but in the end, that had worked itself out. Ryan hadn’t had to do a thing. Tally had walked in on her ex fiance, doing the deed with his boss’s wife. He hadn’t been an ex at the time, but after that he soon had been.

Noah had worried that Ryan could be a rebound for her. But looking at her now as she gazed up into Ryan’s eyes. Noah knew there was love there on both sides. He worried that his friend might just have issues keeping his hands to himself at the office.

Noah dialed Hugo’s number. “She just sent me a text. Is there anyway to track it?”Noah heard Hugo sigh. “Boss, like I told you. The phone she is using isn’t registered. There's just no way to track an unregistered phone, regardless of whether it's a message or a phone call. I’m sorry.”“Right.” Total frustration hummed through every line of Noah's body. “I just don't understand why she would need a burner.”“They're easy to pick up at a grocery store or an electronic store. A lot of people just don't register them.” Hugo explained.“What’s our next move?” Why couldn’t they find her?Noah could understand on one hand why it was so hard. She wasn’t a criminal on the run.“Like I told you, they paid cash that night at Twister. They might have started to use a credit card that night had you not picked up the tab.”Noah had really shot himself in the foot on that one, but he hadn't realized that he might want a track May down after. “The university wasn’t any extra help?”“No boss, she gra

April let herself into her brownstone later that night. Exhausted, she dropped her keys into the bowl on the entry table. Then hung up her coat, putting her handbag on the chair. She then dragged her bone weary body into the kitchen.Opening the fridge to grab the open bottle of wine. April had just taken a glass down when the doorbell rang. She placed the glass on the countertop and went to answer the door.Looking through the peephole, April saw her friends. Quickly, she pulled the door open. She said in surprise, not expecting to see them tonight.Sophie, Trent, and Poppy stood on her stoop. “Hey guys.”They didn’t wait to be invited in, just stepped by her. All kissing her on the way past to the kitchen. April closed her front door and followed her friends. They were unpacking Chinese and pulling out plates from her cabinets. They knew their way around her kitchen. They had done this before. Sometimes an all night study session. Not like they would be having one of those again.Pop

‘Fate Decides Who Comes Into Your Life, Your Heart Decides Who Stays.’ Quote by Someone?April could see she didn’t have long with her father. He had stopped eating some of his favorite foods she often brought in for him. At least she had had this last Christmas. But she knew in her heart he would not make Easter. In the weeks since Christmas, he had gotten so much worse. She could see he was hanging on for her. April wanted to tell him to let go. Every time she tried to form the words, she just couldn’t.Her dad had fallen into another heavy sleep and she needed a coffee. So she decided to head to the hospital cafeteria. The coffee was terrible, and the food wasn’t much better. But it was at the hospital that was the main thing. She just didn’t have the energy to find somewhere to eat outside the grounds where the food and coffee would be better.Once April had grabbed what she wanted and paid, she looked around the seating area, seeing them mostly full. She was going to have to ask t

‘We all make mistakes in life. That’s true, some little, some big, some simple and some more complex, some mistakes we regret forever.’ Quote By Rashard Royster. It was only when she returned to her dad’s room that she realized Ryan might be in the same wing in the ICU. Given Ryan’s unstable condition and her father’s impending fate on death row, they were both in the ICU.April impulsively rose from her chair and cracked open the door to take a peek. She timed it perfectly, as Tally entered the ward with Noah by her side. April’s heart raced, and her skin felt flushed. She only saw him for a few moments before he disappeared into the room opposite.April stood there waiting for him to come out. Turning, she looked at her father, who was still asleep. If he woke up, she would leave her peeping and join him. April didn’t even want to think about why she was doing this. Time for thinking wasn’t now.Noah couldn’t believe it. It seemed so surreal, but it was happening. Looking at Ryan lay

April listened to the conversation between her father and Noah. Surprised that her dad was so open about his regret four years ago. Well, at least Noah knew the truth now. She had never tricked him into marriage. She had no part in what her father had done. Even now, she understood why he had done it. Since William’s hospitalization, her uncle and his family had been circling. Luckily, Mr. Harper was more than capable of handling him for now. When Noah left the room with the doctor, April came out from behind the bathroom door. Then shamelessly moved to the door leading out into the hall to listen to their conversation.“William Harrington is my father-in-law.” She heard Noah tell the doctor.“Not for long, sweetheart.” April said under her breath.“That’s ok then. Sorry, Mr. Crawford, we can never be too careful.” The doctor said.“I understand completely. I’m sure my wife will be happy that you are protecting her father.” Noah said a little loudly.April snorted at Noah calling her a

'Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memery no one can steal.' Quote by Richard PuzNoah couldn’t believe it. The woman that had barreled into his chest as she was leaving the hospital was May.He gripped her arms, holding on, so she wouldn’t vanish again. He could see she wasn’t pleased to see him. She looked tired and her hand was also bandaged. How long had she been in the ER before being treated? “What happened to your hand?”She looked at her hand resting against his chest and blinked at the stark white bandage before saying, “I cut it on some glass. They just put three stitches in.” She didn’t meet his eyes, instead looked at his hands gripping her arms. “Can you let go of me, please? I would like to go home.”Noah’s hands tightened slightly on her arms. He was afraid if he let her go, even for a second, he might never find her again. “May, can we talk? I would like to set the record straight.” He said to the top of her head because she was staring at his ches

‘Most of the problems in life are because of two reasons: we act without thinking or we keep thinking without acting.’ Quote by Unknown.“What is it? What’s wrong?” Noah asked.April shook her head. “Nothing important.” God, she hoped not.“Then can we start again?” Noah asked.April didn’t think that was a good idea. Not only did Noah not know who she was, but he had hurt her every day for the last four years, starting from their wedding day.“I just don’t think that would be good for me.” April wrapped her arms around her waist, watching him. “Look Noah, let’s call it what it was. We both had fun, but we both saw it as a one-night stand.”“And not worth a repeat. If I remember your words correctly.” Noah said, taking another step towards her.April held her hand up as if to stop him from advancing. “I was angry when I wrote that note. But I don’t want you, Noah, for more than we have already shared. Let’s just go our separate ways.”April’s breath caught as Noah’s hand closed around

When no negative answer was forthcoming from her. Noah let her hands go from above her head. In short order, he had his belt and zipper undone. Freeing his length. Making her gasp as the heat of him touched her inner thigh. Her legs trembled. She lifted them and wrapped them tightly around his waist as he positioned himself. April’s breath hitched as she felt the head of his erection press against her entrance, the promise of what was to come making her heart pound even harder. But he didn’t push in immediately. Instead, he pulled away, leaving her hanging, aching for more.“Tell me,” he demanded, his voice cutting through the haze of desire. “Tell me what you want, May.”She blinked, dazed and disoriented, her mind struggling to form words. “I... I don’t know,” she stammered, her voice soft and uncertain.Noah let out a dark chuckle, his eyes gleaming with amusement. “Liar,” he said simply, “You know exactly what you want. You’re just too stubborn to admit it.”Her cheeks burned with

“Move! Hugo, you’re driving.”Noah’s roar bounced off the alley walls as he scooped April into his arms—trembling limbs and all—and bolted for the car. He wasn’t waiting for the EMTs; they’d look after Kayla first. While he understood Kayla had been shot, the bitch had kidnapped his pregnant wife. If anything happened to April or the baby because of today, he’d kill that fucking crazy bitch himself… no police protection would stop him.Brody jogged after him, radio crackling in one fist. “Crawford, I still need a statement before you go anywhere. This was a shooting.”“Statements can fucking wait.” Noah slid into the back seat, April cradled sideways on his lap, her belly shielded by his forearm. “My wife comes first. I’m taking her to the hospital to be checked over, and unless you’re arresting me, there’s nothing you can do to stop it.”Brody planted a hand on the door. “We have protocols—”Noah slammed the door with his free hand, not replying. Traffic and streets blurred around her. April’s grip hurt on the wheel. Kayla sat rigid beside her, pistol hidden below dash level, arm braced on the door like she was part of the upholstery now.“Take the next exit,” Kayla rasped.April’s mouth was desert‑dry. “That dumps us into Tribeca. Foot traffic’s heavy—”“I said exit.”She obeyed, the SUV shuddering across the chevrons onto Harrison Street.Think. She needed to think. She knew Noah would save her.But maybe Noah was still at his desk at the office and wouldn’t be coming to save her. Maybe she was on her own.For the first time, she felt butterflies in her stomach—the baby. “Hang in there, little one,” she whispered under her breath, too quiet for Kayla to catch.“Keep your eyes ahead,” Kayla snapped, her voice fraying, raw around the edges. “No sudden moves.”April swallowed. “Are we just going to keep driving circles until we run out of gas?”Kayla’s gaze flicked to her belly, then away, jaw working. “We’ll stop when I’m ready

Neil didn’t even hear the car at first—his mind was on the reports he’d left in the back seat of his SUV. He stepped out of the elevator onto Level B of the underground carpark, digging in his pocket for his key fob, when the low hum of an engine caught his attention.A black Audi rolled by, slow. Too slow. He might not have looked twice. But it reminded him of April’s car. The thing that made him go on high alert was the way the driver’s face looked—white. Like a sheet of paper. There was a woman in the car with her in the passenger seat. His blood went cold. Something wasn’t right.April. It was April driving. He didn’t recognize the woman sitting beside her. Disheveled, pale, eyes too wide—wild. He barely caught a flash of something metallic before it was gone. But his instincts screamed.Gun.Neil lunged forward, waving an arm—but the car didn’t stop. He was sure by the time he reacted, they hadn’t even seen him. The car pulled into traffic, vanishing with terrifying calm.He didn’

April pulled her car into the underground parking garage beneath Harringtons, the soft rumble of the engine echoing against the stark concrete walls. She glanced at the dashboard clock. 8:12 a.m. Early, but she liked it that way. Quiet, still, no one around to pull her into impromptu meetings before she had a chance to settle. If Noah had his way this morning, she would have been late.Grinning, she slipped the gear into park and killed the engine. The silence that followed was oddly sharp, too complete. She reached over for her handbag, slinging it over her shoulder, and opened the door, her heels clicking against the floor as she stepped out. The sound echoed off the concrete walls. The moment she shut her door and hit the lock, the hairs on the back of her neck stood up.She paused. It was instinct. A tightening in her chest. A shift in the atmosphere that had nothing to do with the cold. She wasn’t alone. Usually, she wouldn’t have minded. It was common for her staff to come and go

Six weeks later. The soft Saturday morning light poured in through the bedroom windows, casting a warm glow over the sheets tangled around April’s legs. She lay on her side, one hand resting over her slowly growing belly, the other curled under her pillow. Beside her, Noah was already awake, propped up on one elbow, just watching her.“You’re staring,” she mumbled, not even opening her eyes.“I’m allowed to,” he said, brushing her hair back from her cheek. “I’m admiring my girls.”She cracked one eye open, giving him a sleepy smile. “You don’t know it’s a girl yet.”He leaned down and kissed her belly. “I have a feeling.”An hour later, they were in the car, heading to the clinic for her second-trimester appointment. April watched the city pass by outside her window, but she was only half paying attention. Her nerves were fraying. It wasn’t that she thought something would be wrong, but pregnancy had a way of stirring up worry even when everything seemed fine.Noah reached over, thread

The front door clicked shut behind them with a soft thud, the sound swallowed by the quiet stillness of the Harrington estate.April’s heels echoed faintly in the empty hall, her fingers still laced through Noah’s. The place smelled like memory, old cedar and roses, polished wood, her childhood. She had loved it here. She was so glad they had renewed their vows in the garden she loved so much. For a moment, the silence felt too big. Too final. Like stepping out of one life and into another. Her dad was gone, but she held him in her heart and this place would always be here.Noah, in his usual effortless way, broke the weight with a grin.“Well, Mrs. Crawford,” he murmured, his voice low, teasing, “you have exactly fifteen seconds to tell me which room we’re sleeping in before I throw you down right here on the marble floor.”April raised a brow, smoothing her fingers up his lapel. “Not the master-suite.”Noah blinked. “Why not?”“It was my father’s room, and I still feel guilty moving

The sun filtered gently through the tall windows of the Harrington family estate, casting soft light onto the white floral arrangements that lined the garden path. April stood just inside the drawing room, her hands clasped tightly in front of her as she stared out at the rows of white chairs set up on the lawn. Everything looked perfect. But it wasn’t nerves twisting in her stomach—not quite. It was something deeper. Quieter. A solemn ache that this moment, this day, was finally hers. Theirs. A peace she hadn’t known she was waiting for pressed into her chest like a soft ache. It was overwhelming and still, somehow, comforting. They weren’t getting married again. They were already married. But today was a promise. A real one. A clean slate, with no secrets between them. A vow, this time, given by choice, not circumstance. Not blackmail.Behind her, the door creaked open, and Poppy stepped in with a smile. “You ready?”April turned, her mouth curving with emotion. “Almost.”Poppy walke

April stepped into the house with a sigh, dropping her purse on the hallway table and slipping off her heels with a grimace. Her feet ached, her shoulders were stiff, and she hadn’t even had the energy to take off her blazer before Noah’s voice floated from the living room.“You’ve got thirty minutes to get ready,” he called. “Dinner reservations. And before you argue—we’re celebrating your win.”She frowned, stepping further into the room. He was standing by the bar cart, dressed to kill in a black suit with no tie, his shirt unbuttoned just enough to show a glimpse of skin. He looked... devastating.April blinked. “Wait, what win?”Noah came over, kissing her cheek lightly. “You, standing up for yourself. Your win. You put them in their place and walked out with your head high. We’re celebrating.”Her heart softened, but her pride flared slightly. “We lost the Paris group acquisition because of that damn leak.”Noah smiled patiently. “And yet, you didn’t let them rattle you. The elevator doors opened with a low ding, and April stepped onto the executive floor of Harringtons with her head high and her spine straight. She could feel it immediately… something was wrong. It was the shift in the air, the whispered voices that stopped when she passed, the subtle tension strung too tight across the office. April had a feeling she was going to be very pissed before the morning was over. Her heels clicked a sharp rhythm as she moved toward her office. Neil was already waiting by the door, a folder clutched in one hand, a look on his face that said this wasn’t going to be a normal day. She could already feel her blood pressure rising, the heat in her temples building with each silent glance tossed her way.“Neil,” she greeted calmly, her voice smoother than she felt.“Can I speak with you?” he asked, voice low and tense. She nodded, pushing open the door to her office. The moment it shut behind them, Neil dropped the polished professionalism he wore like armor.“The
